Hi all,
In the past I have had such problems mannaging my condition in non English speaking countries that, for the last 2 years we have stayed in uk and Ireland. However, next year the children want to go back to France. I have to say that I am worried as the last time we were abroard, in Belgium, I had the most awful flare up and spent the whole time in the house praying for the hol. to be over.

How do/have others coped with this ? I have to decide whether to risk it, or to veto it for everyone, which seems so unfair on them. I must say that I am quite scared to go, but of course don't want to spoil it for everyone else OR be left at home whilst they go to France !!

HELP PLEASE !!!
Thank you
Jacqui :(

Hi Jacqui

I suppose it depends on whether you are thinking of self catering or hotels. Can you take any of your foods with you? Can you tolerate Soya? My sister lives in Belgium and I know that the shops there stock Provamel Products. And they are alot cheaper over there aswell. Do you speak/understand the language so that you can identify what you can eat on menus?

Hope you have a good holiday whatever you decide

You can buy allergy information cards from Allergy UK (formerly the British Allergy Foundation), they come in several languages and help you to translate your problem ingredients and ask for safe foods.

I think you need to take as much as possible with you and be very careful about the rest. I've heard that if you get a doctors note you are allowed to take additional baggage (soya milk etc) on most airlines but you'd have to check beforehand.

Hi all,

Talking off foreign holidays Jacqui I am actually off on Saturday 22nd to Spain, and very much looking forward to it.

Wherever I go I always take my own food with me and try to stick to organised holidays. When I went to Germany I went on a coach trip that had a translator. This holiday should be fun though as although we are self-catering, between me being caffeine, citrus and dairy free, my mothers friend has an allergy to wheat and gluten!

As soon as I come back I am going back onto an elimination diet , and will be keeping a diary on the site to let you all know how I am doing.

Will let you all know how we manage and speak when we come back.

Lan. :D
