Here are a couple of recommendations if you're like me and can't live without cake whilst on a milk free diet:
Marks & Spencer have really nice clear labelling on their packaging, and make a fab ginger cake that's milk free. Entenmann's make great carrot cake muffins too, which don't have any milk products listed as ingredients.
Also, Sainsbury's dairy free margarine can be used in cooking and baking. I've made sponge cake using this, and it turned out fine. I made buttercream with it too - very nice! :D

Talking of dairy free butters, Pure butter is also very nice and good for you. It contains no cholestrol and is low in fat, it also comes in three varietys, i.e. sunflower oil etc.

This is sold at Sainsburys and Tescos. Everytime I make a cake, it tastes suberb. It is also great for other cooking needs, including lashings of it on just cooked toast!!!

Lovely,

YUM have to agree with Lan, i've tried all three varieties, and must say that the yellow - sunflower oil one is definately the best :) just like olivio (or whatever it is called now) used to taste to me, lovely on hot toast :)

i've not tried the sainsbury one yet, anyone tried it to compare it to pure?

and has anyone found a hard margarine that would be suitable for baking? is pure good enough for cakes etc? i really did ought to make my own really >.< then we venture into the egg replacing stuff i suppose  no rest for the wicked eh? lol

Hi Astra,

I have used the pure butter for cakes and found that it does the job perfectly. I have also used it for making pastry and tarts and they tunred out lovely. A must for cooking. I have not however tasted the sainsbury's free from butter. If any tries or has tried it, please let us now about the taste, cooking quality etc.

Kind Regards,

Lan. :D

o.O soft marg in pastry! i was a too wary to try it to be honest, but if you say it works then you give me no option but to roll my baking sleeves up and cover the kitchen in flour (after pay day hehe) i've got some cool pasty recipes, i'll give them a try then post them on the forum :)

Hi All

I had PURE contact me, as they are testing new products at the moment.

They sent me two containers of Pure and I had to evaluate which one tasted the best, on bread, which one was best for cooking.

I cannot wait until they launch this new version of Pure Sunflower as it tasted lovely and the muffins that I made were so light and fluffy.
