I had an expensive York test and it is milk I am intolerant to.
Any advice please? I came off milk products two weeks ago and I am now quite desperate. How long does it take to recover when coming off milk? I have conjuncivitus i n mornings and now ezema on eye lids  - all due to coming off milk?
I am also experiencing terrible migranes - honestly not even headaches. I thought these has gone but they are back with a vengence last night. It's like someone has punched me in the nose.
The good news is the joint swelling which was very painful has gone down and the bloated feeling has also subsided.
I would really welcome any advice from anyone who has been though this.
Many thanks
Hi there
Not sure conjuctivitis is due to milk??? Now I should know this I recently qualified as a beauty therapist and did anatomy and Phys, but I think it is bacterial in which case you need antibiotics for it.
Ive only heard of positive reactions to stopping milk as it isnt a drug, but you never know how your body will react. Eczema is usually worsened by milk, and as you are having trouble with your eyes I would def say go to gp asap. I had similar a few weeks ago and it took 3 weeks of antibiotic drops for it to go.
The headaches could be part of that too.

Welcome to the site. I agree with Yvie's advice. You should feel better on the dairy free diet not worse. Give it a bit longer and maybe things will improve.
welcome to the site.
i'd think about the trip to the doctors as it sounds more like you've some infection... maybe in the sinus area if that's where the pain is and conjuctavitis as well.
where is the pain centered?
remaoval of milk doesn't normally cause this sort of thing. are you cutting anything else out or have you started to eat or drink something new?

Welcome:
Good advise given about visiting your GP.
I did suffer withdrawal type symptoms when I first stopped eating milk products, the symtoms included sweating, bloating, stomach cramps and being very tired. After a morning resting I suddenly felt better.
Remember to constantly read labels.

I dunno about milk not being addictive - I've heard from somewhere that milk contains opiates, so you could be going through withdrawal symptoms, or if your body doesn't get on with it it could be like a detox (which I've heard can be bad for up to 10 days as your body gets rid of stored up toxins). (edited to add): hmm, but you stopped with the milk 2 weeks ago? Is there anything new you've added to your diet, or have you changed your washing powder, or anything like that? It may just be a coincidence.
All of this is conjecture though, and I agree with the advice to go and see a doctor - eczema covered eyelids does not sound good!
Just as an aside, since I stopped eating dairy I have had *far* less headaches, also less coldsores - I realised this last night when looking at an advert for Bonjella! :D

I should think it is quite possible to get symptoms as your body detoxifies. But like the others I think the conjunctivitus is not likely to be one of the symptoms and the GP is best call for that.
You can now get eye drops over the counter for conjunctivitis but with the eczema too you would probably be better off seeing the doctor.
The headaches are probably a detox thing like others have said and should ease off in a few days. It could be that your previouly blocked up sinuses are trying to drain since you have stopped milk and this is causing the pain. Try drinking lots of water, steam inhalations and olbas oil or happynose may help.
Also make sure that you aren't suddenly overloading your body with something else instead of milk as this could also cause problems. Spicy foods, wheat and caffein can also aggrevate sinus problems.
Welcome to the site, hope you start to feel the benefits soon.
I also have eczema caused (partly) by milk, and also get it on my eyelids. I have every sympathy with you, its unbelievably irritating, especially if you wear glasses.
I found the one thing that helped (given you can't use hydrocortisone creams on your face) is Savlon cream. It doesn't sting, and both moisturises and stops any infection. But even with Savlon, it does take ages to go away.
I hope your symptoms improve soon.

Hi everyone.
I havn't been around for a while. My mum has been ill and I have started back to work.
When I first started on my dairy free diet I was really ill. I had flu like symptoms panic attacks and I felt like a nervous wreck for about a month. Resulting in me quiting my job. My GP gave me all sorts of blood tests but didn't find anything. When I went for a follow up appointment with my LI consultant she said this was quite normal. She has found that most of her patients who have been suffering badly go through this detox stage. Apparently its because your body is removing the undigested lactose out of your blood stream. Also It can take a year for your body to repair itself from the damage caused by undigested lactose.
I would still go and see your GP just in case its anything else. Don't worry it will get better. Keep at it. Drink plenty of water and keep in touch with this site. You will get lots of help here.
welcome back pinkfairy good to hear from you again.
we await the reply to see what the doctor says.
good news we hope.
