Probiotic Yoghurt.
When I spoke to the nutritionlist she said that Yoghurts that are probiotic should be ok because all the protein in the milk is eaten by the bacteria. Has any one else heard of this and have any experiences of it?
Thanks

I am confused by your question as on another thread you have mentioned the York people said you have lactose intolerance.
If you have a problem with protein in milk you should not be drinking lactofree milk. If you are lactose intolerant then I think the yoghurts might be a problem. I know that I certainly would not try one as I am lactose intolerant. It is just easier to give up all dairy in my opinion.

I agree with copper, my daughter has the protein intolerance and lacto free was giving her tummy ache. I didnt make the link until i asked her consultant why it was still upsetting her. The protein is still present in the lacto free but the lactose isnt. I had just confused the two.
The consultant said that this cows milk would still upset her due to the proteins. Does lacto free affect you? I havent heard this about muller lite yogurts, could you shed some more light on this.
if you are lactose intolerant you lack the ability to digest the lactose as you don't have the right bacteria, hence the lactose then goes bad and you get the bloating etc.
the theory is that yoghurt includes the bacteria needed to digest the lactose so in theory you shouldn't get the reactions.... i'm not going to try it.
it will be no different for you if it's the protein you have a problem with as that is a different condition. so don't eat it.:(

Go to the back of the class Matt :lol2: I have given a description (twice) about lactose intolerance and allergy. Remember the sieve and enzymes? The lactose will start fermenting eventually in the large intestine as it has not been broken down into the smaller units.
Steve we need to put my notes on these topics somewhere on the site so I can point people in the right direction.
Meanwhile see message 5 here

Hi everyone, I really dont know what the problem is, Lactose or the protein I have been drinking Lactose free milk all week and have only had one bad episode. I think it may have been something else I ate. I havent had the guts to try the yoghurt yet. The nutritionlist also advised me to take the Bio-care Bi-Acidophilus. which you have to take twice a day after food and keep in the fridge. which is quite difficult to do as I work full time and forget to take them to work. I think I am just going to have to try and see what things upset me but I am trying my best to avoid anything with milk products in (except the lactose free milk I cant stand Soya milk its foul).
Any way I am now entering my second week so I will see how I go. Thanks Vicky:)
i take solgar "advanced 40 plus acidophilus" tablets that don't need to be kept in the fridge, they just last better if they are.
just let things settle a couple of weeks before trying out any new stuff, give yourself a break.
there are several different types of replacement milk. so good in the fridge cabinet, sweeteneed or unsweetened soya nad rice milks. so shop around.
i sometimes try the waitrose own rice milk.

I trie dmy daughter on that lactos free range stuff and she still reacted to it. And the muller lite yoghurts no good at all. They contain milk. From what I understand you cannot get rid of the protein in milk as it i spart of the animal fat but th elactose is an acid produced with the procecing and they can stop this being produssed by adding something to the milk to nurtolive the lactose. I won't be givin gmy daugter the muller lite yoghurts and let me tell you I have started eating soya yogurts myself and I have noticed a difference in me. I don't get that bloated feeling anymore and I don't get stomach cramps followed by loss-bowels. If you are lactose intolerent then sure use the lacto-free range but if it is the protein then you need to get over the tatse and move to soya or something else. Goats cheese is lovely and yes it is £2 for 100g but so what if it means you don't have to suffer so be it.
Sorry fit his sounds harsh but I needed ot get it off my chest. I will not be trying my daughter on this yoghurt as I am not going ot make her suffer again and end up with her body shuting down on her again not even for a million pounds
