Please can some lovely curry-loving people out there share some curry recipes that have no dairy (obviously) but that are creamy, suitable for a veggie who'll still eat a little chicken/turkey if it's for a curry and who doesn't do fish...

Im sure we have talked about this before, somewhere there is a list of dairy free curry sauces available from supermarkets, if i find it, or someone else does, we will attach the thread.

http://www.dairyfreeuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309&highlight=curry+sauces there we go, this may help.

hippy are you looking to cook a curry from scratch or use jars?

Alot of curry receipes do contain yogurt or cream, you can use coconut milk as a substitute but it does change the overall taste of the curry. I like Madhur Jaffreys books but she does use alot of cream, yogurt or milk in her receipes.

I can't eat soya so havent tried cooking with soya alternatives maybe someone else has?

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Right. What I usually do is make a curry from scratch. I like Pataks jars and that's it, we were brought up on fresh hand made food (you know what I mean) in my household. So I've never liked most jars.

Basically, if being possibly lactose intolerant means I can still use coconut milk (can I?) then all I really need is to know if I can get dairy-free cream.

What I do is, I use turkey steak cut up into bits (or soya chicken, but soya chicken tastes better in a fattening creamy jar of Pataks...), I marinade the 'meat' in the curry powder (or I buy a Pataks marinading jar - I don't know if there's milk in there because I have never looked but they're the non-complete sauce jars for adding your own cream and coconut to) and then I stir fry it and then add the cream/creme fraiche and coconut plus more curry powder. Tis lush!

Sometimes add stuff like potatoes, onions, peppers, etc - but these days I am so fussy with my food I'm not even using onion and much garlic!

Some people think that using soya mince or 'chicken' is a load of bollocks but even when I'm not being a veggie, I still use it sometimes for a nice change and I don't exactly expect it to be anything but what it is - my meat eating associates assume i'll be like meat. D'uh, it's soya. And it's damned good for weightloss... Here's to losing another stone and making it four-and-a-bit!

Alpro make a soya cream - similar to single cream. It comes in little cartons and in Tesco it is in the same aisle as UHT milk.

Let me know if you want a recipe from scratch - I've got a nice one from an Indian friend. Basically do a normal tomato-based curry, then take off the heat at the end and stir in soya cream. If you do it that way,the soya cream doesn't curdle and tastes fine. Just don't boil it.

That sounds ace! :lol2:

I assumed soya cream existed, I just haven't seen any in Tesco or Waitrose (the only other place we have here is a Morrissons).

I'm not lactose intolerant, it seems. But it does not help me when I'm suffering with what I have, and I do like to cut meat and dairy out a lot so I'd still love any recipes anyone can help me with. :)

could just be the chillis irritating the stomach but could have lactose.. best avoided and buy your own to have at home.
