Can anyone give me ideas of things to aim for or steer clear off when eating out? I have just found out I am dairy intolerant and have a v. expensive meal out on Friday. Its all being paid for by my boss so there is no way I am missing out on this one!!!
RIP Baileys ... life will never be the same.....:(

Welcome to the site. Do you know where you are going for this expensive meal? if yes then you should phone and ask them if they can provide you with a dairy free meal - speaking to the chef would be even better.
Some places like to use sauces etc bought in and usually contain cream!
You would probably be ok if you choose something simple - steak, and vegetables should be ok. Most if not all desserts will be full of dairy.
When I have eaten out I have always phoned first. The chef is always understanding and last time I ate out cooked plain chicken for me. I have given up on desserts. The main course always fills me up anyway. :)

Where are you going for the meal, I found Tiger Tiger and shelly leighs very helpful, Dont be afraid to ask, but you can phone ahead to chat to the chef. come natural after a while.
But when it comes to the afters forget it, i gave on them too, and it's no fun watching others scoff too.

Glamchick which restaurant are you going to?
Ask for vegetables with no butter. Ask for a plain oil and vinegar dressing if you have a salad.
If you are only dairy intolerant then you will find tons of stuff on a menu you can eat.
contact the returant a day or two before to give them the chance to do something for you, if you turn up on a busy night you're likely to be told to sod off! most decent chefs will do their best given the chance.:)
