Allergy Alert From Allergy UK

29th August 2006
Walkers Squares – Salt & Vinegar flavour
Walkers Potato Heads – Cheese & Onion flavour
As part of Walkers salt reduction programme, Walkers have recently altered the flavouring for Salt & Vinegar flavour Squares and Cheese & Onion flavour Potato Heads. This alteration means that these products now contain whey powder versus lactose previously.
Unfortunately, it has been brought to Walkers’ attention, that through the change period, a small number of packs may have continued to declare lactose rather than whey powder.
As a precaution, the products with the following best before dates are now no longer suitable for a milk free diet. Walkers have asked that you check your packets for the Best Before codes below:
Salt & Vinegar flavour Squares with Best Before date 16.09.06 onwards
Cheese & Onion Potato Heads with Best Before date 11.11.06 onwards
Walkers have immediately rectified this error. However, if the codes on your pack do match these Best Before dates, and you are therefore unable to enjoy this product because you are allergic to milk protein, please return your packets to:

thanks for that Linny. Am I being stupid though, because I can't really see the connection with reducing the salt content?

probably by reducing the salt they need to increase the level of flavour as salt is a flavour enhancer.
