Hi
My son was tested yesterday at Holland and Barret and it came out that he is cow sheep and goat milk intollerant, which came as a surprise. Liam is going to be 7 on the 29/09 and as it turns out has been like this since birth. Earlier this year his teacher recommended that we contact the INPP in Chester about his concentration and writing skills etc. We took him down and they said that they could help him and that they suspected that he was lactose intollerant, well this was like a light coming on in both my husbands and my head. Liam had his first grotty nose at 2 and a half weeks old on the day I had to stop feeding him myself (he wasn't called the ferret for nothing!!) he had been being topped up with the bottle for about a week. He had what we thought was colic and reflux and with the formula milk very badly constipated. This carried on untill the health visitor recommended changing his milk to cow and gate it improved a bit but life still wasn't great with a baby who was screaming in pain alot (the smiles when they came were worth it though) When he was about 7 mths we found a new formula milk called cow and gate comfort milk this helped alot more.
Through out this Liam had a green realy grotty nasal discharge, He got a chest infection when he was 15mths and ended up on a nebuliser 4 times a day for a month ,as a result he was classed as asthmatic was on inhalers etc. At 3 yrs he got chicken pox and for 6 mths after you would to look at him think that he had a chest infection hacking cough with a green runny nose, numerous visits to the dr came up with the same answer VIRUS my own dr said it was post viral and to stop worring! This continued with Liam having a cold then not being able to get rid of the horrible symptoms for months untill we went to Florida in March/April 2005 all during the holiday and after he didn't need his inhaler and he didn't have a bad nose. When we came back this continued (we got laminate flooring down when we came back and put the change down to this) we moved house in AUG last year and although he still had grotty nose it didn't last as long or need his inhaler.
When we went to the INPP they said had there been any change in his consumsion of milk Stewart and I relised that in florida Liam couldn't get his morning warm milk as there wasn't a microwave to heat it up and he didn't like it cold and when we came back he only took it occasionly we thought he had grown out of it.
So this is how we have arrived at getting a intollerance test and it comming up with a milk intollerance it has come as a shock, it is also annoying that after being back and for the the drs that they never thought to think beyond a VIRUS.Even last week when i mentioned to by dr what the INPP said he dismissed it as not possible.
That is our story and we hope that this will help Liam and stop the grotty noses breathing through his mouth and the constipation and stomach pain.
(if I can get my head around it)
any help gratefully received:unsure:
