Hi everyone

My name is carly (Carlotta) i'm 20 and a student studing Geology

Here's my story and intro.

I'm a self diagnosed Dairy Free person been dairy free for 7 years (no cows or gaots milk). I used to have awful headaches, dizziness and sickness:( ! my attendance record in school when i was 13 was 50% - i spent half the week in bed, not that nice! Doc's diagnosed migranes and put me on lots of medication did nothing! when asked if i could be allergic to anything like chocolate cheese etc (common causes of migranes) he said no way:mad: !! but about 6 months later i ignored his advice and with the support of my mum gave up chocolate and cheese (and the medicines)and was a bit better so then we cut out everything else! what a difference:) !!!!

I didn't realise there were sites like this! amazing!

I avoid everything with milk in or its products completely. is there anyway of working out what in milk it is that disagrees with me???

Thanks Carly

Welcome to the site Carly. I think that it is amazing to sort things out for yourself like that when you were 13.

I dont know about finding out what it is, most people who are intolerant are intolerant to lactose. None of us have had the courage to try the lactose free milk though.

Welcome to the site Carly.

I realised that my bouts of sickness on and off from birth was lactose intolerance when I had to take some tablets which contained lactose. If this has ever happened to you it is probably safe to say that you are lactose intolerant. Some people are intolerant to both lactose and milk protein.

Well done for working out what was making you so ill.

Hello and welcome to the site.

Personally I know milk is causing the problem and I'm not too keen to work out what part of it is causing the problem, although for me it seems to be it all!!

Where abouts are you from/what uni?

welcome to the site. hopefully we'll be able to help...

re what causes the migraines... well it could be the protein or the lactose so you could try to discover by consuming some milk protein and seeing if that causes one..... if you really want to find out.:(

seems easier to carry on with the easier solution of avoiding it.

i'm doing geology (badly) via the open uni, only second year out of 6!!!

Hi Carly. Sorry i cant give you advice on how you can work out what it is about milk that doesnt agree with you.
I am sure that someone here will be able to help.
I joined this site because of my 3 year old and people are really helpful and I have found different foods he can have through advise off everyone.

Take care.
Bella.

Hi Carly, welcome to the site.

I'm with everyone else, jsut avoiding it entirely seems to solve the problem and I'm not keen on testing! (although I'm fairly certain it's the lactose, I'm not about to potentially make myself ill to confirm that)

Hi Carly, I self diagnosed there was something in milk products that disagreed with me and had it confirmed as lactose intolerance by having a hydrogen breath test done at the hospital. My problem was to do with bad stomach pains/diarrhoea/wind. Having suffered for around 15 years with not knowing what the problem was, going dairy free has been life changing.
