Well cant answer the onion question as i cant suffer onion. But IBS can suffer sickness, i get nausea, and on tablets to stop feeling sick when eating, but bad constipation can cause sickness, as the toxins build up in the body. But each person is different and some symptoms are varied, it may just be a bug you have picked up on.
onion aggravates my ibs but doesn't make me sick. as goose said it tends to be a very individual illness.
and not very consistent, in that one time you get one reaction and then next you get a totaaly differnt one!
assume the worst and see what happens, keep hydrated is the most important thing.
feel better soon.:(

Sounds more like a bug you may have picked up from the litttle one's, although like i said it varies different with everyone, i can have cramps and feel sick for up to a week. unless you really need to leave the house over the weekend, then let it take it's course, worse thing for bug epecially sick and v loose bowels it to block it up with Imodium. Get well soon :)

I agree it is very individual, but my mothers IBS is made worse by pickled onions.. in a severe way bless her, so she avoids them at all costs.

I can't eat onion or garlic as it upsets my stomach terribly. I haven't been diagnosed with ibs but I do suffer with gastritis, which is a damaged stomach lining (mine is due to medication I was given). I know quite a few people who have to avoid onion, I think it's quite common.

I thought that onion and garlic set off my ibs, but i had the york test done, which showed loads of intolerances but not onion or garlic. I still dont eat them though, just incase!! I do eat leeks tho, but my mum reckons that they are so similar that I must be ok with onion!

I have an aunt who can eat onions or garlic- causes all kinds of bathroom unpleasantness. She has substituted with leek and is now fine. Not sure why, but it works for her.
