Hi

:)
I've just thought I'd let the others members know that I have at long last found a decent on-line supplier of Dairy Free Cakes - Its a company called CakesAndSlices. Its web site is www.cakesandslices.co.uk (http://www.cakesandslices.co.uk). I had one of their Date and Walnut dairy free cakes and not only did it taste great (just like the cakes I remembered before I had to avoid dairy products) but I ordered on a Monday and it was delivered to me within a couple of days straight to my work address. It was also gluten free as well! Unforntunately it was also popular with my work-mates.

Could be worth a try if like me you have a sweet tooth

All the best

Rob

Now if Matt was around (where has he gone?) he would no doubt make this observation. rob99 has only made one post and that is to plug some cakes. I think he is connected to this firm, so I hope he asked permission of the owners of the site to advertise his firm. I doubt it somehow. It would have been polite to ask.

I am sorry that I can't help with this as I make my own cakes. I use dairy free margarine (Vitalite) and Orgran egg replacer. I have made a very nice chocolate cake with no eggs. I found the recipe on a vegan site,

Hi

Apologies for not responding to you all previously but I've been away on business and not had access to the web for a few days. I'm sorry that one or two of you think that my post wasn't geniune. I'm not plugging this company - I just thought that just my experience would help benefit other members.

In response to some of the other questions asked - I've just checked the web-site and they have egg free and dairy free cakes not sure if they do both.

Regards

Rob

Rob, we have had people post where their one and only post is to plug their business. We usually point out that it is only polite to ask the owners of the site first. We would not have jumped to conclusions if you had made another post. Most of us post about why we are dairy free and how difficult it makes life sometimes.

Why are you dairy free? I am lactose intolerant and have many other intolerances too. Do you find eating out difficult?

Hi 'Copper'

I understand your concerns and will email the company to let them know that I've posted a comment about them.

I have been dairy (I can eat eggs) and gluten free for about five years. After quite a bit of trial and error, me and my doctor decided that I could have an interloerance to both dairy products and anything containing gluten so I decided to eliminate foods with these in to see if it made a difference. I now feel much better when I avoid these two completely.

Eating out is a complete pain - It was one of my main pastimes. What tends to happen now (espcially on the road) is that I stick to foods I know won't contain these things. This tends to be things like steak and chips (without the creamy sauces) which unforntuanely isn't great for the waist line!

My main problem however is that I have a sweet tooth - more cakes than sweets so I was actually pleased to find a supplier that not only made dairy/gluten free cakes but could also deliver!.

Hope this gives you some background

Regards

Dave

I'm looking for a good chocolate cake recipe for a birthday party, so it would be great if you could post a link.

Sue

Edited to add: just realised there is a recipe in the recipe section!

Hi rob99!

Is your name Rob or Dave because in one post you signed as Rob and in the last one Dave?

Hope you find the website useful.

Copper

Thanks for that Rob, or is it Dave?

Oh we are missing Matt - he would say "Make your own" and then I would agree :)

I make cakes dairy free weekly - it is very easy. Even Matt bakes so you can't use the "I am a bloke" excuse. :lol2: Since my eldest has developed multiple intolerances which includes wheat, gluten, egg and dairy I have managed to perfect the art of baking edible cakes and biscuits with alternatives to all of her problem foodstuffs.

I eat out rarely. I always contact the restaurant before we go. So far I have been ok which is good.

Well, Rob/Dave, I would really like you to resolve the mystery of your name. Especially since the website previously mentioned is run by Mandy and Dave - please forgive my suspicious nature but you must admit that it is quite a coincidence!

Dave

My concerns are not with the cake making company but with the owners of this dairy free site!!!!

If you want to plug your company it would be polite to ask the owner of THIS site first.

Seems like I'm getting some stick here for something I haven't done!

Anyway Helen/Copper - Who's Dave & Mandy and which website am I plugging? after ready your posts I realise that I signed one of them of with Dave (along with several typo's) its probably more due to the fact that I' not supposed to use the Interenet at work for non related work things and was writing an email to a collegue at the same time as writing on this forum (and switching between the two when convinent).

I'll sign off now before being sacked at work and offending any more of you nice people.

Regards

Rob

I had a look at the site and cakes looked nice.

Anyway I won't be buying any as I think the cost of P & P at £8 makes them very expensive cakes.

Ok so you are Rob then? Won't work allow you to use the net in your lunchtime? When I worked for an awful place they did at least allow you to use the net in your own time. How did you manage to order a cake and get it delivered to your desk?

This is the site that you are plugging

www.cakesandslices.co.uk (http://www.cakesandslices.co.uk).

We are nice people honest :) When people join the forum their first post is usually about their problem eg lactose intolerance or asking where they can get alternative foods. When the odd person has made a first post like yours they have been found to be working for the firm that they are plugging. We have no objection to this but it seems only polite to ask the admin of this forum (they are the ones who pay for this forum) first.

Just before Xmas we had the fudge man here plugging his firm. The firm were offering free samples of fudge on their site but as we pointed out the samples were not dairy free. The fudge was expensive so we felt a free sample of dairy free fudge was not asking for too much. The man said he would ask his boss and that was the last we heard from him. So you can perhaps understand why we are wary.

The postage for the cakes is way too much for me too. Do you live in the Nottingham area then Rob? I guess it was not so expensive for you if you live close to the firm. Royal Mail have upset a number of firms I imagine. This new system is far too complicated. I am thinking of selling the odd thing on ebay but I will have to work out the P&P first - a nightmare.

Rob do come back and post again. Maybe we can help you to find other foods to eat on the road rather than steak and chips. How about a plain jacket potato and salad?

Rob,
Sorry. I didn't mean to cause offence.
I've found that, when eating out, places will often do you a piece of salmon without any sauce - but beware the butter on any boiled potatoes! It could make a nice change from the steak.
Hope to hear from you again soon. And sorry again.
Helen

Is it going downhill because people are talking to each other off the forum ie email and messenger?

Hi

Intresting that you are disgussing this. I am setting up a business selling online home made vegan organic cakes, amongst other stuff. I would be interested to hear what you miss most and what you would hope would be stocked, as you are all going to be my target audience!

My toddler is dairy and egg allergic. We've about got the cakes sorted now as we make our own, or buy supermarket brands. However we have great trouble with dairy and egg free deserts when all the other kids are eating yoghurts or fromage frais. All the vegan versions are too low in fats and calories to be given to toddlers, other than as an occasional treat. So I would like to see some diary type deserts, including lollies and icecreams, aimed at children. I believe toffutti have something but I've never seen anything in our shops.

So far as I can see they are only available in america... I did check with my wholesaler... they only do the cheeses and sour cream by tofutti. Swedish Glace make a fantastic vegan ice cream and I used to love orange and pineapple juice frozen lollies as a kid. I will definately look into doing low fat low sugar snacks/desserts suitable for children though thanks!

No, not low fat desserts. Young children, especially those on a dairy free diet need a HIGH fat dessert for the calories. Yes, sure you can add calories in other ways, but I've got to make every calorie count with my little one. I can find quite a variety of low fat dairy free desserts, but nutritionally they're not very good for toddlers.

Oh I assumed it must have been a typing error as you said you could only give them as treats!!! Are you careful with what kind of fat and calories you need it to be? Have you got any guidelines from a dietician or anything and I can work from that? Cheers

I seem to remember an "Artic Roll" type dessert by Tofutti, unfortunately I never saw it again... I agree Swedish Glace "ice-cream" is very good and they also do a "mini-magnum" style product (box of 4) - but it's a bit hit and miss whether you can get hold of it. I think I've managed to buy it only twice in almost 3 years.

Hi,

I saw this thread from some time back, and note that the company mentioned does not seem to be in business still. I'm curious as to whether there are still any suppliers of (nice) dairy free cakes/ biscuits, and if not whether people think there is a market for them?

Copper
26-07-2009, 09:41 PM
I actually make my own cakes. I can eat some biscuits from the shelves in Tesco.

I guess that there might be a market for cakes but the cost of delivery would them very expensive.

If it's a treat like a birthday, then I use BlueLotus, the chocolate cake they do is lovely, okay it's not cheap but it tastes great:) Otherwise I tend to buy stuff from the supermarket that is naturally DF, or is on a free from range.
