View Full Version : Dairy free cheese

I've just found a new variety of cheese slices made by Galaxy. My health food shop didn't have any tofutti in so I tried these instead, I got soya slices and also saw some rice slices which I thought I would give a go. It wasn't until I got home that I realised the rice slices had casein in  so I wasted my money there.

I used both slices on pizza and was disappointed that neither melted like toffuti does, the soya slice went hard and curled up at the edges and my dairy free daughter wasn't impressed with the flavour either. I had the rice slice on mine (being dairy free by choice, not necessity and not wanting to waste money) and although this bubbled and semi melted it didn't taste brilliant.

So the verdict is- I'll hold out for Tofutti next time.

Hi Pam,

I to noticed this with the rice slices when I saw them in my local shop. I noticed as I was paying so was pretty lucky. I don't find they taste that good either, and this from the girl that loves Parmasano and cheezly.

All well if I see or try any other slices will let you know.

Kind Regards,

Lan. :D

Tried the following "cheese":

Redwood Co.
Cheezly
Dairy, lactose and gluten free
Made with soya, starch and non-hydrogenated vegetable fats.

My son was not impressed - he loved cheese before he was put on dairy-free diet, but he was certainly not impressed with this product.

I tried it and it seemed too dry and crumbly.

I have yet to try it in cooking, or cheese-on-toast, etc.
Will let you know what happens when I do.

Kelly.
