Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but I though I'd try it anyway. I've been living dairy free since Aug 2007 and have eliminated all my digestive problems. I've always used Alpro sweetened soya milk but I decided to try Aldi's because its half the price. It taste good but I've noticed recently that I keep getting a sore itchy throat and wondered if anyone else has ever experienced this with any soy milk. I've occasionally had the same problem with the Alpro milk but not as often.

It usually happens if I have the milk cold with cereal. It's fine as hot milk in porridge/Ready brek and in cups of tea.

I might have to go back to buying Alpro even though its more expensive. I've tried oat milk and rice milk and don't like these at all. Is it possible to get a reaction from one brand of soya milk and not another?

Thanks in advance for any info, advice or comments,

A sore itchy throat is a sign of allergy, I think. This could be an allergy to soya or something added to the soya milk. Not reacting to the hot soya milk is odd though.

If you replace all dairy with soya you do run the risk of developing an allergy/intolerance to soya. I tried hard not to replace all dairy with soya and yet I am now intolerant to soya.

Do you get this problem with any other things containing soya? If not then maybe it is something in the long life soya. You could try chilled soya milk (found in the chiller in supermarkets) and see if you react to that too. If you do react to it then it looks like you have developed an allery to soya :(

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Copper, thanks for the advice. I looked at the ingredients of each milk and there is a difference. The Aldi milk just says "flavourings" but doesn't detail what these are. Perhaps there is something in the flavourings that is the problem. I do have a mild intolerence to almonds.

I use Alpro soya yogurt (just the plain) and can eat this without any problems. I thinkit will be a case of experimenting, as you advice, with fresh/long life and different brands.

Thanks once again,

Huh flavourings is not very helpful! I suspect that they are the problem then. I hope that you find something that is ok for you.

Could be something (like alcohol) which evaporates when heated.
