I think that we should make a petition and try to stop companies putting dairy products into medicines.

YES PLEASE!!! This is such a pain - going to such lengths to keep it out of your food but then not being able to help it being in your medicines.
BTW thanks for the choc recommendation on the other page, will try that out next time my willpower fails and I need some sugar!

It wouldn't be a bad idea, and not just for medicines. It would be easy enough for me to add a petition system to the site.
Are there many people interested in doing this?

I agree with you :) I proved that my lactose intolerance was back when I took some over the counter decongestant tablets :( After feeling as sick as a dog for three days I had to stop taking them and found that they contained lactose. I went back to the chemist and bought the liquid version which contained glucose instead of lactose. I am now verging on the paranoid about any medicine!
good idea, not just with medicines though. like why does sliced turkey include lactose??? i know bulking agent and so on.
but definately on medicines i'm damn sure tehy could and should make medicines without the major allegy products in them. it's just lazyness from the big firms. why develope new idea when old ones bring money in.

excellent idea which would make life much safer.
I believe they put milk products in some prepared turkey and chicken foods as it improves taste and smoothness of texture of the products. Annoying because it limits choice.
This is a great idea and we would love to hear your opinions on this?
I to am sick of medicines containing lactose and all (for us ladies) the contraceptive pills. There is only one without lactose and then the patch and I had an allergic reaction to that.
I particularly dislike the Bernard Matthews range as they all seem to contain lactose. When I go over my mum's she cooks Bernard Matthews Turkey roll and has to cook something separate for me.
Let me know what you think.

I think I am only allergic to milk protein so lactose is fine for me but I am now on contraceptive injections which work well . They may not have lactose in, but maybe that you are reacting to something else Lan if you were not suited to pills or patches. I am also allergic to Latex so I can understand your frustration. I don't know if that is the appropriate word really! :naughty:
so what we need to do is pick a product/company then all send an email to their customer services, that way they might start to think that it might be worth atleast thinking about changing the product. don't think that we'll get lucky with mr matthews as his turkey would no doubt become dry and horrible (become even more should i say)
one problem we face is that the product that they often replace milk etc with is hydrogenated fats. there's a witch hunt against them at the moment as they are meant to be as bad if not worse than butter for the heart etc. this could be a big problem for us as i can't see big firms bothering to look into how to replace them and will either discontinue lines or just not develope them to start with.
but back to the original idea, no point doing survey's or petitions. like i said pick a product and then we'll all email. not saying we're connected, then they'll hopefully sit up and take notice. worth a go anyway.

are we going for a food product or a medical product or both. It annoys me that they put lactose in some anti histamine products . Perhaps that may be a starting point.

Hi there, Iv'e not posted for abit , and I agree with all medicine's etc should be Lactose free.I have just got some anti-flammatory tablets for having cronic back pain :( I couldnt even walk to the bathroom had to crawl) and my sister is a quailified nurse and told me tio check the ingreidients with the Pharmacy that there's no Lactose in them, which there wasn't. The tablets are called Voltarol Dispersible Tablets --( no lactose) but they are Made from Diclofenac which does contain Lactose in those---unless they are a different make to the ones i have...Anyway going back to the other ingridents in medicens I think they should be stopped...PS Aspirin also contains Lactose read it on the internet.... :naughty: Hope this helps
I would like to see a petition re medicines - my 4 yr old daughter reacts badly everytime she is given antibiotics and I'm sure this must be because they often contain lactose
Now when she is ill I stick to Calpol (I assume this is OK) and avoid the doctor unless absolutely necessary. Often viruses cant be treated with antibio's anyway so it best to steer clear of them

Should petition against milk products in medicines especially after recently being supplied with six bottles of childrens strength antibiotics of which 5 spoonfuls were to be taken 4 times a day as it was the ONLY AVAILABLE lactose free alternative.
i suppose we should be thankfull that there is an alternative antibiotic for us. might be worth posting it's name so that anyone who needs to can ask for it at the doctors. will save either the doctor taking hours searching or claiming one doesn't exist.
why they need bulking agents in pills i don't know. i can just about understand why they use eggs to make some medicines though that must be very frustrating to those unable to have eggs. but milk and wheat? why it's not like they form an active ingredient.
and pills are big enough some times to get down without making them even bigger!
I know what you mean Matt. My mother's friend is a ceoliac and she has difficulty in what she can and can't take.
I know I have mentioned this before but most tablets contain lactose, expecially the contraceptive pill. Why pump 99.9% of it into a pill that contains .1% of active ingredient?
There is a pill available without the lactose but for me it was useless. I just don't understand how something important, could get pumped full of an allergen.
I also didn't know that companies produce condoms which are dairy free. Hell, I didn't even know they contained dairy. It just amazes me what they can fill with allergens these days.
I normally opt for medicines when ill and only take them when feeling very ill. If I can attend work I try not to take them as you can get intolerant to them if you take to much.
Why can't these companies take more notice of allergens and try to lower the rate they are added to everyday things.
Kind Regards,
Lan. :D

:) I think thats a great idea, i really have trouble just getting my 8 month old son some paracetamol when he is unwell or teething, as most of them like calpol contain frutose and makes him more sick than he first was ive only managed to find one and thats from Lloyds pharmacy ive also found that now some of the chicken and meat dinners for babys are now containing milk but yet others dont. thay know that there are far more allergys now days so it would be nice to at least make it a bit more easyer for people with them.
