View Full Version : Coffee Shops - charging extra for Soya Milk
I have had several cups of coffee made with Soya Milk at Caffe Nero in the past I didn't realise until I was in the one at Nottingham on Saturday that you are charged 30p extra for Soya Milk. When I asked about this I was told they always had done. Does anyone know whether other Coffee Shops such as Starbucks and Costa Coffee charge extra?
I had a cup of coffee in the cafe at Lakeside in Doncaster on Sunday, soya milk wasn't listed at being available but they had some in the fridge and I wasn't charged extra for it. They also had some Dunking Biscuits that were dairy free.
Costa don't charge extra. I do wonder though whether there is a case for discrimination there though, as surely it's not right to charge someone extra for an equal service? I may investigate this further.
One of my sisters said at the time it is because Soya Milk costs more - just depends on which brand is used. Caffe Nero use Alpro Soya Longlife, blue carton.
So do Costa coffee. I had to complain to Caffe Nero as they caused me to become really ill just before an exam once when they women claimed to have put in soya milk, but blatantly hadn't, unfortunately I had to drink some of it to realise this!!
I always try and keep a very close eye on the milk jug when they make the coffee. I know Caffe Nero have different coloured pegs which they have on the jug handles. I nearly had a slip up recently in a Costa Coffee as the guy who took the order didn't write Soya Milk on the till receipt. It was only a couple of minutes later that he remembered and did so. That might have been rather nasty for me. I think alot of it is down to who is employed rather than the company.

Starbucks charge like 35p extra. They too use Alpro.
