Welcome to the site

I hope that somebody here can help you. I seem to remember somebody here a long time ago had a similar problem. The only thing that I can remember them saying was that they spread the margarine thickly on bread, toast etc for their child.

You can get sunflower oil based Pure, which according to the label doesn't have soya in it. It's a yellow tub, probably found nearish the green soya version. Then there's also the blue version which I think is the organic one and is made of palm oil and something else but I don't have a tub of that here so I can't tell you the ingredients sorry.

I'm sure birthday cakes have been mentioned on here before, I think somebody "Cake Lady?" sells them. If you are just looking for a sponge cake then a victoria sandwich can be made with dairy free marg and decorated approprately if it is for a child. Welcome to the site by the way.

I thought vitalite had soya lecithin in it?
I'd generally go with making it yourself, although Blue Lotus make a delicious chocolate cake:D

I haven't checked the vitalite yet my local shop didnt seem to have it but i did get a yellow tub of pure thank you for the tip i dont know how i missed it it was righ next to the green tub! I did look on the blue lotus website after searching old threads, but think i am just going to make a cake myself. If anyone has any tip's on how to make the perfect birthday cake it would be very much appreciated. (i have a couple of weeks before katie's 2nd birthday so i can practise) Thank you to everyone who has responded to my note you have all been great.

Ooops yes Vitalite does contain soya lecithin. Not enough to make me ill. I am only soya intolerant.

I really must get back into reading labels again.

The cake recipe on this site looks good to me.

http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/516400

I fill my sponges with "butter cream" and jam. I use 3oz dairy free margarine and 6oz icing sugar. Beat the marg and then gradually add the sieved icing sugar and beat well. You could spread some of this on the top and put some ready made iced figures on the top.

Tesco sell silver balls, sprinkles, iced Winnie the Pooh figure etc etc. You should be inspired by something in the home baking section of your supermarket.

I make all our childrens cakes, its not as difficult as it sounds. Victorian sponge, butter cream made with the marg you have to use, coco powder mixed in to make it chocolatie, sieve white icing powder on top or mixed coco pwder and icing on top, add some dairy free choc buttons, marshmallow, jelly tots or what ever. Kids will love it. You can even buy the colured icing pens and doodle on it. Much better than what you get in the shop.
