Lactose in lamb shanks

My youngest daughter and her boyfriend will be here for dinner this weekend. I thought that I would have chicken on Saturday but should do something else on Sunday.

We found some frozen lamb shanks in mint sauce in Tesco - excellent I thought. My husband then asked if I had checked for milk - err no I had not. I could not believe it when I read the dreaded word lactose in the ingredients.

Everybody but me will be having lamb shanks for dinner. I have some lamb escalopes to grill for my dinner.

That is a surprise. I have always bought my lamb shanks which come in a rosemary sauce from Aldi. I will have to check next time I buy some, but I expect they must be lactose free as I can't remember suffering after I ate them. Enjoy your Sunday Lunch:eat::drool:

It's madness. It's so easy to do though isn't it. What possible need can there be for milk in those?!

I am still annoyed and puzzled about the lactose in lamb shanks.

I am going to pay more attention to ingredient lists for a while now.

bernard matthews turkey ham has milk in aswell why on earth does ham need milk in it??? i wouldnt of thought to check ham if the dietician hadnt of given me a list of food items i wouldnt expect to have milk in but they do!

Smithy - i am afraid you have to check everything. The weirdest thing that I saw labelled as having milk in was pickled red cabbage - Why???

Bernard Matthews puts dairy/lactose in everything as far as I can tell.

I always check the labels of anything that says improved or new recipe.

Copper, I checked the Aldi Lamb Shanks in Rosemary and Mint Sauce today and they do not contain any lactose.

They use lactose as the flavouring in stuff...i have to watch when buying packed cooked meat..All most every one has lactose in as the flavour in Asda..:(...Iceland seems ok thou..

I don't eat cooked meats as they all seem to contain lactose. I think that Tesco own might be ok but I don't trust them. In any case I couldn't eat that amount of cooked meat before the use by date.
