hi i have been reacting to a new food since having my vega method test bac in may, and its coconut i am having the problem with. im relluctant to have a vega test again as the doctors refuse to believe these tests work, although i now they worked for me,because they are not 100 per cent accurate i worry tht sometimes it may not have picked up other foods i cant tolerate, so can anyone recoomend a proper test i can have done? i live in bath, uk, or any online tests like york?

also when i do manage to locate another test, is it best to mention i have already had a vega method test, or do i just start again afresh as if i never went.? would be interesting to see if it piced up the same foods as the vega test did.

The York tests are the ones that are recommended by the allergy charity

http://www.yorktest.com/en/our-tests/

they are expensive though.

I developed a severe and swift reaction to coconut about 3 years ago. I am very intolerant to coconut.

I think I am sensitive to coconut too. Coconut oil seems to be worse then something liked creamed or dessicated coconut which I can tolerate some of.

I had used coconut cream to make some really nice biscuits. The reaction was so bad that I would not be tempted to try any other coconut product.

Nice to see you are still with us Jarael - you haven't posted for a while. I am not sure if these tests would show something up if you haven't eaten it for a while. I had the vega test done at a local health food shop and wasn't convinced by it at all.

how about a RAST test?

A RAST test requires a blood sample. The sample is sent to a medical laboratory, where tests are done with specific foods to determine whether the patient has IgE antibodies to that food. The results are usually received within one week.

That is what the York tests are.

The problem is that RAST only picks up one type of antibodies, and apparently aren't very good for food allergies, but are probably the best option out there if you're going private.

hi everyone ty all for ur replies in the end i had another vega test done at a different clinic. the results were very different, im know longer intolerent to the things i was before, now im intolerent to yeast, molds, wine, beer, anything that contains yeast or vinegar, gravy etc.

she also said that she is sure i am suffering from something called candida. an overgrowth of yeast in the body. i was quite skeptical.

but when i got home i fully looked up candida on the net and its like reading my health history, the symptoms are so scarily the same i cant believe the docs didnt suggest it.

here is a link if anyone is interested, it also can cause allergies etc and intolerences to foods as it can cause leaky gut syndrome. different sites vary on the symptoms but more or less all the same.

im in total shock , i have prob had this thing for the last 12 yrs.

the coconut makes me ill also as its a anti fungal fighter and kills off all the infection. which then lets of toxins quickly into the body and causes allergic like reactions.

hopefully the link will be some use to someone.

That is interesting Jarael, and definetley worth a trip to the doctors to see what they think. Hope you get it sorted soon so you can start feeling better.

I had a friend with ME who did a lot of research into candida. She found a test for it that was available in the US.

I am quite skeptical about it I must say. Be careful my friend spent a fortune on alternative help for her ME and eventually came to the conclusion these people had fleeced her out of a lot of money.

I have wasted money on a healer when I was at my wits end. Things she told me could of caused problems (like that I didnt have calcium deffiency).

I have had a lot of problems with doctors and I think finding my own routes to being well have helped but I am still very cautious about ideas like candida and testing for intolerences.

If this is the solution for you I am happy that you have found something that makes you well. Give it a set period of time and if it doesnt work move on from it.

im pretty sure this is what i got, it suddenly makes sense why i have been getting ill, especially the intolerences and stuff. i prob wont pay for a test, but will be cutting yeast out of my diet and cut down on sugar.

i have not had bread now for 2 days and was feelign fine til i had a yoghurt drink a few hours ago, it contained quite a bit of sugar and as i was drinking it, i could feel my stomach bubbling and doin stuff. prob the yeast infection feeding off of it.

and now i am feelin a little ill.

have got some tablets from the doc tht should help, although he didnt really comment much on what i had to say about candida.

Jarael, Do you always see the same doctor? Have you looked into the possibility of finding another one, even if if means moving practice? Difficult I know but you don't seem to get alot of support from them, but saying that neither did I.

I am fine thankyou.

i think its the nhs as a whole tht dont think candida exists. but over all other then the allergy and this subject he is quite good. i have been with the same surgery for over 10 years and have also seen other docs there but all pretty much the same on these subjects.

if the tablets dont work i guess im gonna have to fork out for some private treatment or buy online.

shocking the nhs dont recognise this illness, id never heard of it before but it means i could of got better along time ago if they had picked up on it, makes me angry.

glad u are ok.

Hiya,
I have seen a Dr called Dr Myhill, she specialises in allergy, environmental medicine. I saw her in relation to my M.E. as she was recommended to me by several people. She has a very comprehensive website and offers tests etc. She has advice on treating Candida:

Hope things improve, Lou xx

thank you for that link lou, i will now check it out.

things seem to be improving, i have now avoided all yeast and all unatural sugars, although i have had some stuff with natural sugar in it, now for 2 days and i feel fine except for about 5 hrs after taking my antifungal tablets. then all the symptoms i were gettin b4 comes back and bites hard. i have read online tht its just cus the yeast are dying quick and are letting out toxins.

what is me? can candida lead to it? as i know candida can cause extreme exhaustion.
