I watched the one show earlier and they did a slot on 'Food Allergies' I watched in disbelief, it was so unbalanced and badly researched.......they basically said that most people who claim to have food intolerances are just ' on a diet' and say they have an intolerance because it sounds better! They said that around 20% of people claim to have an allergy whilst only 3% truly have. They showed a clip of a man with coeliac disease using him as an example of someone with a genuine allergy.....after the clip one of the presenters said that if this man were to put his prescribed bread in a toaster which had been used for normal bread the crumbs would have caused him to vomit and his lips to swell?????
There's no wonder that people with true allergies and intolerances are disbelieved. You can watch the clip on the BBC website.....I shall be emailing the show to let them know my thoughts!:angryfire

That sounds awful. They are not typical coeliac symptoms. All this will lead to is chefs not taking people with intolerences seriously and more people getting ill.

I shall try and watch it so I can complain if I have a minute.

:angry:I watched it too. I was insenced (if thats how you spell it) the report made me feel embarrassed.... and almost ashamed so be so stupid as to think I may have lactose intollerence. when obviously im just a whinging hypocondriac who has nothing else better to do with my time that troll round supermarkets reading lables and not eating chocolate and cheese or all the problems being lacose intollerent cause. Im a sensible healthy person with a responsible full time job and three adult kids living at home.... I dont need to be an attention seeker. The one show did nothing to help us and backed up doctors opinions that intollerences dont exist

disgusting

I have just watched the article and am absolutely appauled at the comments the presenters were making, I certainly don't see it as 'trendy' or 'sexy' to have an intolerance. And I certainly haven't found people in my network of aquantancies copying it. And if they think doctors will help in diagnosis they will know that it isn't that easy. I now hope that all 4 of them and the woman sat in the cafe get a genuine intolerance and feel how we have to suffer. It isn't just a bit of bloating or wind. I really am gob smacked. They obviously haven't researched correctly. If you haven't watched the programme you still can for the next 5 days, its the first article so you don't have to sit through the whole programme. Disgusting!

I have just tried to leave a comment but couldn't manage it for some reason. 102 other people had already made comments and some of them were not happy about the article. Hopefully the BBC will take some notice and make an apology.
