my five-year-old daughter has recently been diagnosed with vulval eczema, or possibly even paediatric lichen sclerosis - the dermatologist is not sure yet. I think she may have a very mild eczema elswhere on her body - dry skin, sometimes a bit itchy in winter especially. She is not allergic to dairy as such, but she does get horribly congested and 'mucousy' of she drinks milk, so for that reson, since she was three years old she has drunk rice milk and i generally try not to give her too much dairy (alpro custard, non-dairy ice cream etc), she still eats cheese and yoghurts though. I was just contemplating cutting out dairy altogether to see of this helps her symptoms (sore and itchy vulva). Just wondering if anyone else has a daughter with this particular problem and if cutting out dairy was helpful?

Welcome to the site. I have not heard of your daughter's problem. It sounds uncomfortable for her though.
Has the dermatologist suggested anything that may be causing the problem?
I guess if she has problems with dairy it might be worth trying to keep her on a totally dairy free diet for at least two weeks and see if that helps.
Check the ingredients lists on everything you buy for "hidden" dairy. See this page on this site for alternative names

I am sorry that I have not been much help.

I have not heard of it either. My son had a small amount of eczema he was on a low dairy but not no dairy diet but homeopathy seemed to help it from a qualified homeopath although the remedy commonly given for eczema is sulphur.
Mucous can be a sign of dairy or gluten intolerence so it may be worth trying them one at a time. For me it needs a good 6 weeks to clear.

Funny you should mention this as my DD1 has v sore 'bits' - they get v red and angry after a bath say. My GP said it was 'delicate skin' and gave me some Daktacort to put on it. I'm not convinced.
My DD1 does have a dairy intolerance so possibly there is a link? She doesn't really get exzema elsewhere - although this last winter she did get a patch on her face  which took ages to clear up...
Interestingly though Pjackson, Daktacort is for fungal infections rather than bacterial infections which is usually the cause of eczema.
