Cheaper Dairy Free Foods

I used to buy a variety of Trufree products (and paid throught the nose for them), but then discovered "Sainsbury's Own Brand". Believe it or not, their Bourbon and Shortbread biscuits contain no dairy products. I've since found it well worth while to hunt through any of Sainsbury's own brand products.

Hats off to Sainsbury's, I think they are the only major supermarket brand that clearly states on their products if they contain milk or milk products.

Don't forget that some products have "HIDDEN EXTRAS" which are not listed and I have put a topic named links as to which foods we shouldn't have..Like Whey etc, i can't have lactose either and there are lots n lots i cannot have..

Be careful, write all food ceaten differently down and if bad also note it so you can find out which you cannot have.

Gotta go have toast waiting, yes its like proper bread bought from jewish shop is sliced and its DF yipppeee and its lovely :lol: 97p - £1-02 loaf.. and if u freeze it, its nice when defrosted 2.. tested on a family with non dairy needed and didn't notice the difference..

I have to agree that the Sainsbury's range is fantastic. Have you tried the free from Nutty Bars and soft cheese yet? They are great. I find most dairy products are pumped full of flavours to make them taste taste better!!!! However the cheese I find always tastes horrible due to this, but this Sainsbury's cheese has just the right amount it's great!!

Only gripe I have is that my local shop has stopped stocking the dairy free bags of crisps. Has anyone else found this? If so, I may start a petition to send to Sainsbury's to get them to reinstate the crisps pronto.

Please let me know your thoughts.

still do crisps here in warrington. i like the soft cheese and butter in those portions are great when i work at weekend i took microwave in and have jacket spuds with salmon and dairy free mayo from asda..yum yum..

from the jewish shop i bought some CORNY bars they was £1.55 for 6 cheaper n nicer than sainsburys and 3 or 4 flavours..

Thing is these are from USA, and i was told that for bout 50p - 60p can't remember proper price i was told, LIDL (other one to ALDI) do these bars but not USA so don't know if differnt.

Has anyone tried these?

new drink soya from adsa .. bit litre soya strawberry 98p nice n thicker than those 3 in pack sOYa ones..

Goin to leeds 2moz and tryin 2 get hard cheese they do..will let u all know what its like, they do pizza things aswell, not like pizza at all lol more like garlic bread without garlic, stuff on top goes black, dunno what it is but its nice lol.

anyway must dash..speak 2 u all soon with reports ..

ps, was told coffee white is good too, saves my mate from gettin it from USA aswell

The crisps from Sainsbury's disappeared from Hedge End, Southampton too, but they are back. The manager says he has lots of request for these and other dairy free products.
It pays to get on at your local shop, they do listen if enough people shout.
Also I have noticed that lots of Coop products are now showing warnings of milk content on their packaging. They have an allergy notice on quite a lot of their own brand showing not only milk but nuts, gluten etc. as well.
Worth checking out if you have a coop near you (and most people have) :P

yeah i noticed that co-op were the only supermarket up on the labelling enough to mark stuff as vegan - have noticed that some stuff at tesco is starting to appear with a suitable for vegan symbol right next to the suitable for vegetarian one! lolz

asda have warning labels on their stuff that states what is in their products, be it egg, milk or gluten so thumbs up to them too!

from the sounds of it i need to be shopping at sainsburys a bit more!! i tend to do the rounds and shop at different places to get a wider variety of food! sounds silly but even ready salted crisps taste different from a different supermarket hehe

what is morrissons like for labelling and dairy free choice? i've yet to venture into the huge new store near here..

Hi everyone

been quiet lately or is iot me?

I have 2 see another specialist 2moz coloitis.. am on a special anti depressant now, sugar free as tabs had lactose in them. only boots can get it and have 2 take it thru syringe as its 2ml, the tabs was 10mg but dunno how this syrup works..

anyhow.. my son told me 2day..and this is very strange... (see message above) that morrisons do a full lane of dairy free.

i haven't been in yet, am still doing sainsaburys. they had some chocolate too yummy yummy.. for the last few months i have been very tired and dizzy and had 2 undergo diabetes tests.. it was borderline on blood pressure and diabetes but they sed it was ok. i am not convinced, as i never had sugar before and 3 drinks aday without, now can have 5 drinks per hr 5 sugars in, and eat wrong sweet stuff when feel weak n dizzy..

i think this is cos of the lactose??? anyone else have this problem???

I must agree with you Irmgard that the Sainsburys dairy free chocolate is gorgeous. I really enjoy it and have found that it is also low in points, great for my diet.

:D :thumbsup: I'm so happy to read that there are cheaper brands of dairy free and allergy items at other supermarkets I to have been paying a fortune the last couple of weeks to try to help my 2 yr old find out what is wrong with him.I think doctors should class food allergies as v serious and people should get everthing for free ecspecially children. The doctors has just fobbed me off and not helped my toddler. :angry: It seems to me some companies have just cashed in on people's food allergies and charge the earth knowing that people have no alternative but to buy their products to remain well.

absolutely!!

maybe you should try a second opinion from a more sympathetic doctor or health visitor?

own brands of soya milk i find are fine, i generally use the asda own brand or tesco blue stripe one, both are 65p for a litre, they don't have extra calcium in them tho, but i eat the soya yogurts and stuff with them in anyway.

i have a list of recipes - dairy and wheat free that i've trawled through the internet for - mainly bread, cakes and cookies. if you pm me zachary i'll happily send them to you :)
