I am abit confused in one respect because my 3 month old son is having problems with his poo and with every bottle he brings back up curdled milk, now the doctor has done stool sample test and said it came back positive but to that he replied that he does not know what it is positive for????????????????? even though he claims is classic symptoms of colic, if colief does not work then he will prescribe infant soya. I want to know if any vegetarians use infant soya off of thier own accord or on the advice of doc.
I had a funny thing while pregnant with my son that may be causing the lactose intolorance???? , which is that i went off cows milk and now still can only stomach soya milk because cows milk leaves a horrid taste in my mouth . I hope someone can enlighten me with the infant soya milks because i do not like the doctor dictating to me what is best for my child and it may help with people who have had more personal experience with dairy intolorances please

Welcome to the site.

From what other mums have said here in the past a stool test is for lactose intolerance.

Doctors no longer prescribe soya milk for babies as there is a chance that the baby will develop n intolerance to soya. There has been some scare about soya affecting the fertility of boys later in life.

You could try baby on a lactose free formula (found in Boots I think) or ask the Doctor to prescribe a special milk designed for allergic/intolerant babies. See this table for the names of the special milks

Others here have been prescribed Nutramigen. They all taste and smell nasty. You might have to add some milk shake to flavour the milk in order to get baby to drink it!

Let us know how you get on.

i know this is an old thread but i am new and what you describe is exactly like both my daughters when they were breastfed. diagnised initially with reflux but that was nonsense now they are older and eat food i know they are both dairy intolerant and that was what made them so uncomfortable as babies.

my youngest has nutramogen don't worry about taste and smell they don't know any different and drink it anyway. produces strange ppos though.

how are things going now? what milk have you got? how is weaning?

Hi Daddys Fault, everything seems to be going great now, I decided that wysoy seemed to be a good option, it smells like potatos but literally the first feed and my baby was extremily happy, what a relief, he does get very solid poos but thats ok, he doesnt mind.

Now that he is having proper food he is beginning to thrive and becoming my little fatty, eeeeee they dont stay small very long.

Did you begin to intergrate any dairy products into your childrens diet as they get older?

my little one still can't have even a trace of dairy and she's 16 months now. occasionally try her with a b iscuit that contains milk but still get crying, constipation and sleepless nights from it.

older one is nearly 3 and still can't drink resal milk she has aptimal can introduce the odd bit for her in cakes etc but same symptoms as above if she has an ice cream for example.

when you introduce dairy i would go very carefully and be aware of what is in everything you give your baby. the intolerance can l`ast until they are 5 or even older.

Yes I did. When my daughter was born she had reflux and didnt regain her birth weight, scary. The paediatrician prescribed Nutromogen, due to our useless health system and local pharmacy we couldnt get it for 36 hours(!!) so I went out and got a tin of WYSOY to at least feed the child, however she settled straight away on it so we stuck to it. With my son, same problems but this time I took the decision myself to switch him.

It actually worked out well for us, they both thrived on the over counter formula but we were ok as they didn't have a soya allergy.

The prescription one is also really expensive in ireland, a months supply was working out over €100, over twice the price of Wysoy. Mind you I'd have paid €1,000s to get them right. :)

Good luck, hope baby feels better soon and settles for you.

I just thought I would post as my daughter who is 5 years old has infasoy on prescription as I was finding it very hard with bein gon benefits to spend out the extra mone I was spemnding every week on dairy free food just for my daughter. She goes through 1 900g tub in 5 weeks and it hasn't affected her in any bad way. I have also seen a dietition and she said that that the issue with soya milk is in children under 3 years but as long as I followed the sticted guide her then there would be no issues with my daughter having a soya diet. We give her calcium rich foods like Tofu. She also suffered with reflux terrible when she was a baby and had a very slow weight gain which is worse know he is older as she can no-longer stomach any forms of cow's milk protein. We are expected to give her a milk protein challenge once every 12 months but I have refused to even concider the challange for this year because I am not exposing her to any milk protein untilshe is much older because of how bad her last challange went. Good lcuka nd I hope the change from cow's milk helps loads. My daughter has been reflux free know for 4 weeks and she is loving not having to take her nasty meds. Her words not mine

Both and I and my daughter developed a soya intolerance. I had tried to keep the soya low in my dairy free diet which is even more annoying.

I now have to check things for soya, dairy, lactose and coconut
