Hello everyone,
I'm new to the group and have a quick question - has anyone with severe lactose intolerance had problems with the Sainburys Free From range, esp the chocolate brownies and mince pies please?
Thanks for your help, happy new year also.

Welcome to the site.
I am totally lactose intolerant and I am fine with the Sainsburys chocolate brownies.

I have spent most of christmas and new year investigating foods that contain lactose and caseins, how sad for me!!!!!!
I found the above site via a link from the BBC and very informative. I particulary like the recipes but to be honest I think it is just a matter of making most of my own from now on.
I bought a lovely organic loaf of bread from M & S with some goats cheese and goats butter for a quiet night in for new years eve, right? wrong! the bread had an ingrediant called 'vegetable proteins' (I assume dairy based) and spent the night making noises that would have competed with any orchestra and fireworks (if you know what I mean).
Mmmmm will have to try again. Thinking of getting myself a bread maker, that way I am going to be sure of what I am eating.
I already make my own goats milk yogurts... Cheers everyone and happy new year.

Thanks Copper and Yorkshire Lass for replying. Thanks Yorkshire Lass for the link also. I've found bread very dodgy as many contain lactose, even if they don't say so, as its used for browning. I now make my own bread, its much safer and tastes nice also.

Vegetable proteins should mean non dairy. Grrr
I make my own bread too in a bread maker. I know that I am ok with my own bread.
I can't cope with any mammal milk products as they all contain lactose, sigh.
They've legally got to state ingredients now, so the bread/browning shouldn't be an issue and I've never had a problem with the brownies and I'm both lactose intolerant and milk protein allergic. Have you considered keeping a diary and seeing if there is anything else you're reacting to?
