I am having a challenge with my in laws. My son is dairy allergic and even when he was a year old they gave him a corner of potato from their plate which had had cheese sauce on it and the potato had touched it. I protested immediately it not be given to him because of the cheese sauce and they put it in his mouth whilst I was protesting saying "oh a little bit won't do him any harm, it is just a tiny bit" I said I didn't care how small a piece it was, that he was allergic to dairy and that had he been allergic to peanuts they wouldn't have dreamed of giving him a bit of a snickers bar saying a bit wouldn't hurt him and that it was the same principle. I was accused of overreacting and a couple of hours later when I put him to bed he promptly vomited all over his bed. "A little bit won't hurt him will it not?" I shouted "Clearly a little bit does!"
I have had similar battles with them. They asked me the other day if a bit of sausage roll was okay, I asked for them to wait until I had read the ingredients list first before giving it to him. Whilst I was saying "sorry he can't there is milk protein in the glaze" my son wandered through with a huge mouthful of what was suspiciously like half chewed sausage roll. Cue the next few hours of screaming and complaining from him that his tummy was sore. Of course it wasn't their fault though, it was the fact he has a cold or the fact that it must be growing pains or he was missing mummy (I was trying to sleep before a night shift).
Give me strength.........
