My daughter who is dairy intolerant like me want to make some sweet recipes that use double cream. Has anyone any suggestions as to what dairy free product she could use instead. We did think of soya cream but that is like single cream & won't whip up to a thicker consistency. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is a soya cream that can be whipped. The one I have seen and used, before I became intolerant to soya, is called "Soja-Saane"
I have seen this cream in Tesco but don't remember seeing it recently.
I have done a quick search and found this cream which can be whipped "Soya Too"
I think you might have to investigate health food shops for these cream alternatives. Failing that you might have to order online. You could try asking your local health food shop if they would order some in for you if they don't stock it.

Thanks for that - I will pass the info on to my daughter. Unfortunately  I have recently become intolerant to soy too, most probably because I have been relying on it for so long as a dairy replacement (over 25 years).

I found the SoyaToo soya cream that's suitable for whipping here:

There's also a squirty cream that, even though it's called SoyaToo, doesn't contain soya! It's made from rice and coconut.
I've also used the Soja-Saane, which I can still get in my local Tesco.
I think Alpro have just brought out a new cream too. I found it in either Tescos or Asda, can't remember which sorry.

Hi
New to this board but not to lactose intolerance as both myself and my daughter have a genetic type.
I was looking for a cream substitute that doesn't taste like boiled cardboard (soy whipping) and have found one quite by accident! I make my own korma curries and bought some coconut cream for this. I realised you can actually whip this up and add a little sugar/vanilla if needed and if left to set in the fridge for a few hours, it's ideal for filling baked items or having as a topping on trifles or desserts! It's found in the world foods section of the supermarkets (usually by the thai foods) although this week, both my local ASDA and Tesco have stopped stocking it. But it is still in Morrisons or Booths.
Tastes great and is very addictive! It's in a long life carton (don't buy the sachets as they are dried and need reconstituting).

Some people like me who are totally lactose intolerant would still suffer with goats milk/cream. Goats milk contains lactose. One site says that goats milk contains 10% less lactose than cows milk.
