There are quite a few non-dairy cheeses but I'm not really keen on any of them.

Scheese and Cheezly are both quite similar in consistency (like a crumbly cheshire) and flavour, in my opinion, and not to my taste but they don't melt.

Veggie Kaas is more like a Cheddar cheese but it is hard to find and quite expensive. Its manuafacturers claim that it melts when used in cooking but I found the texture and flavour a bit pastey, it also seemed very greasy. Also don't get it mixed up with Soya Kaas which although a vegetarian cheese contains cassein.

Tofutti produce a cream cheese in a few different flavours which is good on crackers or jacket potatoes and although not particularly cheesey it is quite pleasant, they also make cheese slices which I use in small quantities as a topping for lasagne or pizza as they melt when cooked. Tofutti is long life and can sit in the fridge for months so it is therefore quite economical to use.

These are only my opinions based on my own tastes but if anyone has tried or found any other cheeses I'd love to know.

I have found that Cheesly is fantastic. When I first tried it 6 years ago my opinion was less favourable, but today I can't get enough of it. It can be bought in some branches of Tescos, or some health food shops.

I also enjoy Parmesano which is a powdered cheese substitute, and is about 70% soya flour. However it is lovely on pizza, pasta and other dishes where fine cheese is required. This gain can be bought at Sainsburys and health food shops.

I have to agree with Pam on the tofutti soft cheese range. The garlic and herb soft cheese I find very tasty, but maybe a little to garlicy for me. This cheese is great for making cheese cake. Tried and tested. 10/10

Good Luck.

Do you have a recipe for the cheesecake Lan? I have 3 tubs of Tofutti soft cheese in the fridge and they go out of date next month.

I've posted the cheesecake recipe in the recipe section.

You can see it here: http://www.dairyfree.org.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=30

Could you please post the bar codes for those cheeses. I live in ireland and soy cheese is very hard to come by but if i have the bar code then at least tesco can make an effort to get it in.

Thanks
