Hi,

I have recently been advised to follow a dairy free diet which also includes eggs and soya milk. I have been to all the major superstores and got their own brand 'Dairy Free' list which have proved useful. The only problem is that I also have to follow a Coelliac gluten free diet.

Does anyone else have this problem and do you know of anywhere that you can get combined literature?

Thanks everyone

Matt is probably a good person to speak to, he is dairy free and wheat free, so he'll probably have a good idea of what is suitable.

You could also have a look on www.goodnessdirect.co.uk they have single food free from lists, but once you open the dairy free list, each product will also have all the other free from tags underneath.

It sounds like you're going to have to get creative in the kitchen though as most manufactured foods will have one or the other of your forbidden foods in. Good luck.

hi, yeah i'm the same although with me it's by choice. my doctor's sure i'm imagining the whole thing!

right first things first, get used to buying non processed foods. basically if it's been processed you can basically guarentee it's got either dairy or gluten in it.

couple of web sites:
www.aixf98.hemscott.net
http://wheatfreeliving.com
www.peter-thomson.co.uk/glutenfree/black_list_.html

they'll do to start with but some of the other sites for regular recipes will have gluten and dairy free stuff. google or ask jeeves always worth trying.

sainsbury's free from have good selection as does tesco's.

find a good health food shop. doesn't have to be a big one. my local one will order in stuff for me. bigger ones worth travelling to as they will have a larger selection for you to see whats on offer.

i tend to eat fairly basic foods. meat from the butcher, frozen veg fresh potatoes etc. fish in tins or fresh.
don't assume, plain oven chips for example have wheat! sandwich turkey slices have dairy! hope your eye sights good small print needs to be read.

sounds worse than it is. once you get to know what there is and where to get it from it becomes easier. then you can worry about any tedium and sort out a varied diet. to start though just go for plain unprocessed food to get you on the right road.

i'll stop now, let me know if there's anything specific you need to know.

you don't say if this diet is on doctors advice?

if you are celiacs then they should be prescribing wheat replacement stuff. worth getting them to do it if you can, alot cheaper and easier. and get referred to dietician. they may help, 90% of time they don't but you never know! they do atleast have lists of suppliments that are wheat and dairy free.

i get calcium tablets prescribed and a high calorie drink as my problem has meant large weight loss.

like i said, more info and specific questions. i can't promise help but i might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Guys,

I really appreciate your help. I am waiting for my appointment with a Nutritionist and hope that she will be able to help me further. I decided to cut out dairy and wheat/gluten after having Kinesiology allergy testing and also by doing my own testing by cutting out and introducing certain foods.

I am not sure what symptoms other people had but mine resembled IBS with stomach aches and really bad gas/bloating which felt like I was having a heart attack. Since cutting out dairy I have noticed a 100% difference with a lot less gas, the only downside is the massive weight loss - 2.5 stones in 6 weeks.

Anyway, thanks for your help and assistance. I will certainly look at the web sites recommended.

Simon

not teeching you to suck eggs but did you have that weight to loose or are you getting underweight?
dietician appointment might not be for a while, get out there and start eating the carbs, rice potatoes or free from breads etc. even if you had the weight to loose that is a hell of a lot to go in a short period of time.

i had the same symptoms. just had them the other day, had a birds eye 100% beefburger except it wasn't, they use wheat flour in the flavourings. not that they felt they needed to say that on the ingredients. 48 hours of pain, bloatedness and so on. never assume.

have fun
