Hi My daughter willow has been cows milk free since she was 6 weeks it took the ages to work out what was wrong with her she was so ill and breast fed so a milk problem wasnt considered. It was the odd cheese sandwich that I ate that was causing the problems. She is now 11 months and weighs just 15 pounds (8.2 at birth). We have tried to encourage bottles but the nutramigen experience put her off bottles so now on cups we tried pepti-junior and neocate non of which stayed in her mouth although we did have some pretty patterns on the wall. she has been breastfed since but now my milk is drying up and im desperate to find another make of formula to try ANY IDEAS. Has to be soya free also.

EVER HOPEFUL FOR A BABY WITH A FULL TUMMY AND A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP!!!

I think you've probably tried all the non soya alternative formulas. Do they actually make her sick, or does she just not like them? If it is the latter then you should just try to persevere, she will eventually start taking them. I think you need to see a dietician to look at alternatives as it is not recommended that you use normal rice milk etc until they are much older as it doesn't contain the goodness that they need and you will be putting her at risk of malnutrition. Some children can tolerate goats milk even though they can't take cow's milk so that is something to look into.

Ask your doctor for an urgent referral to a dietician, they might be able to offer something suitable or recommend a supplement that would fill the gaps.

Hi Caralee,

Please check out the baby foods I have put on the website as these may help. Most of those were soya and dairy free. Even though they cannot substitute milk formula they may help with feeding.

Also I would agree with Pam about getting an urgent appointment from a dietician. They can probably help to some degree.

Good luck and kind regards,

Lan.

Hi thankyou for replying. My daughter is under a peadiatric dietitian but she is now out of ideas. the last being to add crusha (milkshake flavouring) to the formulas but all attempts have been unsuccessful. We are now down to mixing a peadiatric vitamin powder into jelly to try and make up for what shes missing. I was just hopeful that their was another milk which hadnt been tried.

You most likely have already tried this but what about using the formula milk to make milky puddings like rice pudding, custard, in sauces, etc, any way you can? My doctor would not give me any more formula milk after my son was 14 months old. I was horrified at the time and asked him what he should have, he said "nothing, just a healthy diet!" I have to say my son is fine. try your baby with rice milk to drink and use the formula in cooking. That way she will still get what she needs. As long as she gets enough fluids don't get hung up on our obsession to give babies milk. this could well be useless advice if she doesn't eat well either! My son never drinks milk of any kind he hates them all, but will tolerate rice or soya milk in his food. Hope you have some success.
