Is all spaggetti and macaroni egg free?
I am aware that all other pastas may contain egg but have been told that these 2 don't ever contain eggs. My 18 month daughter has an egg allergy and this would make eating out a whole lot easier. Cheers.

I thought it did but my pack of spag says durum wheat semolina so I am not sure. I believe it may be available in a health food store, or in Asda they usually carry a list of products at the info desk that would be suitable. They would especially know about their own brands. <_<

i would always let the resturant know in advance of a visit. they can then check. the trouble with saying yes that sort of pasta is always egg free is sods law kicks in and you go to a resturant with an eager chef who makes his own and decides on a whim to add egg.

if you ask then hopefully the answer you get will be accurate. doesn't hurt to let them know in advance. they can then decide whether they feel happy that they can supply food to you that will not ahve come into contact with egg products. if they're not happy to help then they wouldn't be happy when you turned up anyhow. find somewhere that is friendly.

We have just been on holiday for 2 weeks and ate out at least once a day and EVERY place we went, when asked, said that all the pasta contained egg. We felt that this was more of an ar*e covering exercise than a true answer. If we find a local restaurant that doesn't use egg pasta they will do good business from us!!! Cheers.

;) Curious about pasta now I found a website at zanellini.com to find out what durum wheat semolina is and it is ground durum wheat processed but with no other additives. Take a look. They also do other pasta with egg so perhaps you could make some dishes at home. My kids love pasta. Fresh pasta normally does have egg to bind the paste together. ;)

it does have to said that italians very rarely use fresh pasta prefering the dried stuff. they go in for the taste in the sauce. that's probably the easiest option at home. like i said with the resturants ask them if they want your custom they'll try to get egg free, if not then it's probably best to avoid them anyway.
