View Full Version : Christmas goodies
I know, I know, it is far too early to be thinking about Christmas just yet, but when things are in short supply you need to look early and get them ordered. This seems to be particularly so for dairy free christmas chocolates.
So........ Anyone know of anything worth buying for Christmas presents?
I believe that last year Kinnerton did some special advent calendars that were only available direct from them by mail order and they were quite expensive, but all funds went to the anaphylaxis campaign. (We stripped out a standard advent calendar and refilled the moulds with suitable chocolate for our little girl so that she could have one the same as her brothers).
For adults, I can recommend Booja Booja truffles - very dark chocolate truffles which come in about 5 different flavours. Available from some health food shops and by mail order.
Maybe other people can suggest a few more goodies?
Hi Pam,
If you want chocolate cubes for the advent calender Sainsbury's nutty or plain chocolate bar are lovely. I know Terence Stamp also does a range of dark chocolate nuts and raisins, which are also nice.
The Whizzer's footballs are also nice. You could also get some crisps as I love them at Christmas and nuts especially are nice. Children could have a great time watching you crack them, especially if you are as hopeless as me at it.
You could also get Tofu cubes in a spicey coating and don't think it has dairy in it, but please check.
Have run out of ideas now Pam, but will let you know if I think of anything else.
Does anyone else have any ideas, suggestions etcetera?
Kind Regards,
Lan. :D
get busy and make the christmas cake. then you can slowly drwon it in brany or whatever for the next couple of months. you'll know exactly what's in it.
i'm having to make three this year but can't eat any due to the wheat! one for the parents and two for my mum to give to my siblings for presents. i need my head examined, but then we all knew that anyway.
might try to make a small one with wheat free flour. we'll see but worth doing it yourself far superior cake than any shop one.
Last Xmas my 4 year old really enjoyed marzipan so started to buy the chocolate covered bars from Holland & Barrett which I then sliced up and put in her advent calender instead. Unfortunately these have soya in and are now no good altho' for a treat she does sometimes get pieces of marzipan bought in packet form from the Supermarket and sliced up. She also likes the marzipan fruits which you can buy at Xmas so I have gone and bought 2 boxes of these from Morrissons yesterday - very extravagant but I do feel extra sorry for her at Xmas time!
Also last year she enjoyed eating various varieties of chocolate after dinner mints - again these contain soya so no good this year I'm afraid.
Excellent idea Pam to start this topic going - I hope everyone can now be on the lookout and post replies back to help the little ones out especially!

Matt, you might not be able to eat the cake, but have you been on the Brandy? It seems to have affected your typing :naughty: .
Keep the ideas coming! I keep promising myself that I will order from Goodness Foods Direct and Veganstore.co.uk also has a lot of nice looking stuff. I will try to get around to e-mailing Kinnerton to see if they are doing advents this year.
Can I be the first to wish you all a Merry Christmas!? (tee hee - I'm now ducking in case any of you want to hit me for being so previous)
don't know what you mean, i'm as sober as, well someone or other!
happy easter!
tesco's is playing silly buggers again. i saw a small free from xmas pudding yesterday. but it was listed as only wheat free not dairy free.
list of ingredients shows nothing like dairy so either they can't confirm dairy free or they've allowed it to include a very small amount. if i think about it i'll email customer services and ask them. then get them to say sorry for not making it dairy free. it might happen.

I would check with tescos, but it would very easy for them to make it dairy free so it's possible that it doesn't contain any dairy.
I'll be starting on making some christmas puddings myself soon :)
email sent to tesco yesterday so might hear by easter!
going to start my xmas cakes today. once got the three large normal ones done might try to make one for me!
