Seeing as Stuart came out in a rash after a very small amount of chocolate, a friend suggested that I take him to a homeopath for allergy testing, rather than waiting until we see the paediatician in April. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it any more or less effectively than the conventional allergy testing?

i'm a cynic and find the homeopathic methods just too much to believe. i would say the only true way to find out is with a detailed elimination diet. undertaken with help from dietician. basically you exclude everything that could cause a reaction, live on that diet for a couple of weeks until no symptoms then bit by bit reintroduce foods noting any reaction.

you need to be very disciplined and carefull so that you don't get cross contamination etc but it will give the definate answer.

homeopathy just seems a little hocus pocus for me. but whatever works for each person. i don't pretend to know the answers to all questions....

Would they do a full on elimination diet with very young children? I am lucky that I did not have these problems with my daughters. They are in their early 20s and they are now finding allergies to odd foods.

they might do. not sure, you could do fairly simple one though. eliminate all the usual suspects and see if the symptoms dissapear then reintroduce one by one. giving a good fortnight of each for reactions to appear. see what causes a reaction. that should eliminate the main culprits. the trouble would be if there is a problem with an additive or preservative etc. much harder to do at home but then a blood test might pick that up from the doctor. see what the dietician/doctor say.

Hi All,

I am currently on a medically supervised exclusion diet which basically means I can only eat a limited choice of low antigen foods such as rice, potatoes, pears and water. It is very boring and your willpower takes a real bashing but for me the results have bee life changing. Problems that have been with me for years have slowly reduced to such a point that I am a lot happir and my medications have been dramatically reduced.

This diet was initially designed for children and was called the Lamb and Rice diet. It does have to be supported by your GP and a dietician as your calorie intake drops to below 750 a day and the weight just drops off.

Good luck.

Hi Simmo,

I have been on the elimination diet and know how you feel. When I was on it the following helped me survive.

Rice fried in pure butter with fish fried in soya flour.

Kind Regards,

Lan. :lol2:

Oh dear I hope I don't need to go on that sort of diet as I only weigh six and a half stone now.

I've got a few stone spare that you can have copper, if we could share them out we'd both be happy. My Christmas excesses are showing, I had to get my larger size jeans out this weekend and my wardrobe is somewhat restricted at the moment. I managed to lose 1 1/2 stone last summer but I think most of it has gone back on.

I tried homeopath testing and they did a hair analysis and gave me a huge list of foods which they said I was allergic to and I stuck to it for 6 months until I could stand no more. They took me off all cow related food all chicken related food and lamb, potatoes and some fruit and veg. Il ost alot of weight and I decided to add food back in 1 by 1. The only problem I had was with goat and cow dairy as I started anaphallactic shock with these. everything else was fine. This is how I discovered my allergy. I also did an elimination diet and I was pregnant and didn't know! I was sooooooo hungry! But I had the same results as b4 for less cost and over less time. You need to check your homeopathic results with what your body says. Good luck!
