View Full Version : picnic
so here's a good place to chat about the summer picnic. who wants to go. post here so we can have an idea if it's worth the effort etc.
we could always meet at kew gardens. bit out of the way i know but my favourite place.
that or work out the central point ish of all who want to go. i know it'll not be until june/july maybe for the best weather. but the sooner we et an idea the better.
Sorry Matt, I don't think I'll be going, but I'd love to see the photos. (and you can send me a doggy bag too please.)

I might be able to make Kew Gardens - I could get a train :) I will see how difficult that would be - trains are rubbish aren't they?
train not too bad, the tube goes to kew gardens. don't know how many changes you'd need to do. i always drive and park just outside. free parking in the road after 10am. fills up quickly though.
i'm up there every month or so. next up to see bluebells i expect. unless i find an excuse to go before then.B)
Hi Matt,
Kew Gardens sounds lovely. We would probably drive up if the big meet-up is still on. Can always rely on Steve to know the way.
Lan. :D
if people want to meet up sooner rather than later i'll check out when the special weekend is for the bluebells and we can meet up then. usually worth the trip with lots of events and things to do. food good there. not too expensive. and they encourage picnics.
who's up for it?B)
Hi Matt,
We are interested, but will need to know dates etcetera. It will take us at least 2 1/2 hours either way.
Kind Regards,
Lan. :D

The way I feel now I will not be up to any sort of travel any weekend for the seeable future :(
30th april and 1st may.
that's the weekend for the bluebells and woodland craft weekend.
huge displays of the bluebells and they have loads of craft stalls where people who make hurdles, honey, carving and so on.
usually lots of interesting stuff. been to the last two.

I think I'd be able to make it to Kew, I'm pobably the nearest. :) Let me know if anything is arranged and I'll ask my hubby if he'll take me there. I presume other halves and children could come along too?
no only the members!!! yeah ofcourse anyone who wants to be there. lets see if anyone else says yes.

I can't make that weekend :( I have very few events on at weekends and I can't get out of this one.
I love chatting to you all and I know I probably risk offending some/all by saying this........ but instinct tells me it a bad idea to meet up with you guys, purely from a safety point of view. The brave bit of me would love love love to put faces to names but in reality I just don't have the guts.
God the more I read that the worse it sounds.........Its sounds like I am accusing you all of being nutters, which I most certainly am not! I just don't think its a good idea to meet up with strangers......why do I feel guilty typing this?
don't worry mac i know what you mean. and if that is the majority view, that it's safer to remain online friends without meeting up then i for one will not be offended.
if it ain't broke don't fix it? :lol2:
Mac, that's probably the way I feel too, though I use the practical reasons as excuses (expense, distance, family etc - all valid but excuses none the less). I could have easily gone to a meet up from another site that I use but I shied away. No offence to anyone, but I generally stay away from social events at work - I avoided a leaving do last night. I have got out of the habit of going out socially (I've got 3 kids - I never go out anywhere) so I think I lack the confidence to do it and there's no way that I would walk into an unfamiliar pub or place on my own - even if I knew that there would already be some of my colleagues there. I *never* to out after dark alone - I just don't think it's safe these days. The only appointment available with the hairdresser next week is 7.15 on Tuesday night and I'm not happy about going out at that time of night but it really needs cutting so I had to take that appointment.

I thought that I would be safe meeting Matt as he is an ex policeman. I know that he claims to be mad but I am sure he is harmless :) I thought that meeting in a public place would be fine.
i'm a fine one to talk not really liking social situations myself.
no probs no matter what the end decision is. i'm not going to take any offence.
i have to say i'd had second thoughts trying to decide if it would be better to not all meet up. sometimes things shouldn't be messed about with.:lol2:
