Does anyone else suffer from bad reactions to goats /sheeps cheese? I can eat any amount of cows cheese, but in the last year...(no probs before that) the tiniest taste of goats or sheeps cheese makes me violently ill.....vomiting and stomach cramps.....really bad.......this occurs between 4 and 5 hours after eating.....and it definitely isnt in my mind because I try really hard to avoid the problem(who wouldnt!!!)but have made a few mistakes which i havent discovered til i become ill......then i have researched the cheese and ineveitably it is sheeps or goats......this is a real problem for me as I live in South West France....which seems to put the stuff in everything?!!!! I would like to know if anyone else has a similar problem, any info at all......why? how does something like this start? Is it an intolerance or an allergy? Any info welcome....please email or answer here.....thanks, Jo:unsure:

I don't really know the answer here but I didn't want to ignore you. In the UK people are usually told to avoid all animal milks and not just cow's milk, though some find that they are ok with goats/sheeps milk just not cow's milk, as you originally did.

Many people find that changing from cow's milk to soya milk is ok to start with but later on also develop an allergy/sensitivity to soya. I think that once you have a problem with one food, if you bombard your body with an alternative, the body puts up a barrier and decides that enough is enough and won't accept any more. Maybe this is what has happened in your case - a tolerable or non-existent reaction to goats milk has suddenly become a major problem because it is the latest thing for your body to fight against in the absence of cow's milk.

So I'm sorry, I'm not much help to you, but welcome to the site and I hope someone else can offer more advice.

Hi there.

I seem to be lactose intolerant so should be able to tolerate small amounts of low lactose goats and sheeps cheese. Haven't tried it yet though as on the elimination diet at present.

I know I cannot eat much soya as it seems to turn on me, so agree with what Pam said regarding that.

Have you thought that you may be lactose intolerant and that is why it makes you unwell? You could always try the Holland and Barrett Lactase Enzyme tablets. Can post more information if interested.

Sorry I'm not much help.

Lan. :D

the lactose is different in cows milk to that in sheep/goat milk. that's why sometimes people can drink goats milk when they can't cow's.

could be you're specifically affected by sheep and goat milk. might be intolerance or allergy, most likely intolerant. you could try the tablets or the friendly bacteria tablets which might help you digest it better.

alternatively, just avoid all exposure. how long has this been a problem? any trigger moment?
got any good health food shops in your area? don't know how many there are in france.
unfortunatley, it's a problem we all face with dairy products being added to so many different things. have you tried several different type of sheep cheese? just thought it could be something to do with one particular one which might be more to do with the process or coating. just a suggestion.

Whats your doctor like in France?? Would he/she be any help?
Back here the majority of doctors don't believe food intolerance/allergies exist which doesn't help.
Most people have struggled along on their own trying to work out triggers, which is frustrating and time consuming.
How long have you lived there? And Cows milk doesn't affect you at all??
Most of us have found that we can't eat processed foods, therefore everything has to be made from scratch, much healthier for us all really!
