View Full Version : Dairy free celebrities
There was an article in my local paper tonight about the benefits of soya milk. Did you know that it apparently lowers the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol?
It also listed some of the dairy free celebrities who use soya milk, these include:
Amanda Holden who likes it because it has a low glycaemic index (takes longer to release energy)
Athlete Denise Lewis who suffers from IBS
Suzanne Dando who is lactose intolerant but ok with goats milk
Dido who is allergic to cows milk
According to the manufacturers of So Good soya milk; which has added calcium and vitamins, the trend towards soya has caught on among celebrities, who are evanglical about its health benefits.
The milk is made from the protein of the soya bean. The beans are crushed to remove their oil content, then they are put through a water process to remove starches, sugars and oligosaccharides (which can be hard for some people to digest) leaving behind the important protein and soya isoflavones.
The isofalvone content is helpful to people suffering from hormonal imbalances and soya milk is often recommended to women going through the menopause or to men with prostate problems.

This might be TOO MUCH INFORMATION so chaps, look away...
Off topic, but connected to the last quote -
I've gone through premature menopause, and my consultant sees it as a good thing that I have so much soya in my diet. It can only help with my symptoms. But my mother, who has had breast cancer twice, has been told to avoid soya when possible

If it can help with the menopause can it help with PMT??? I think I've just answered my own question by looking back!, the quote says that it helps with 'hormonal inbalance'
If it can help with the menopause can it help with PMT??? '
Not so as my husband has noticed
 Pam  (images of me on a bad day)
last time my cholestrol was checked it was 3.1!!
i thought the only cure for pmt was icecream and chocolate.
hope the early meno didn't cause too many probs. i think the biggie is to keep the calcium levels up isn't it? you could always try almond or hazelnut milk. they will help with the calcium, soya is meant to have a chemical very similar to oestragen. but not in particularly high amounts.

Thanks for the concern, it's caused massive problems (the largest being infertility, of course)
Long story about hospital mix ups, but I had a bone density scan a year ago and pending the results (yes, after a year!) I may have to go on osteoporosis therapy. Obviously I don't get calcium from dairy but my soya milk is calcium enriched
hospital's making a cock up? surely not. it was, no doubt, your fault for having gotten ill without letting them know in advance or having symptoms that didn't match their i-spy bumper book of illness diagnosis. some doctors are just narrow minded.
so do we think we might be able to contact any of these celebs to get them onto the site? they'd benefit and so would we having someone with a bit of clout to stand up for the group. famous people tend to get listened to for some reason. i'd do it but unsolicited emails from a bloke tend to fall into the stalker box!:o
But how do you contact these celebrities?

Possibly through their agents? Google search maybe? If I have time later I will see what I can find out and post here.

Ok after much googling I found the official site for Dido (I love her music)
http://www.didotv.com/#
There is even a forum and a section where you can ask Dido questions. She may not get time to answer many but it is worth a try. Anybody willing to give it a go?
Must bookmark that site now :)

Anybody feeling brave?
pam didn't you say the article was in the local paper? you could approach them and say you represent dairyfreeuk. ask them to forward the site address or a letter to the said celeb's inviting them to join or visit. can't hurt to try.

I watched the Paul O'Grady show and Geri Halliwell was on saying that she feels healthier etc. and that she now has soya milk Paul O'Grady then said that he does too and he loves it! I wouldn't go that far but it's amazing how many celebs seem to have dairy free things.

I use drink lots of soya to help with the menopause too. Love the vanilla one:)
i'm suspicious of celebs as they tend to follow things that are fashionable and it's fashionable to have an intollerance at the moment either to milk or wheat. so loads of them are saying they're avoiding them.....i think that they're
