Hi, my son William is 18 months and has a dairy allergy. We first noticed something wasn't right when I stopped breast feeding at 6 months, he was constantly sick and always had diarhea. It took about 6 weeks before the health visitor said to try soya milk for 24 hours and stop all dairy products. It was a miracle, all the sickness etc stopped. It was diagnosed that he had a dairy intolerance. Things have got worse now, he only has to have milk or a milk product touch his skin and he has an anaphalatic reaction, he now has an epipen which we have to carry with us all the time. We have been advised by the doctors not to have any dairy products in the house, and also if anyone does have some to wash hands and face before touching him.

If anyone has any advice for us it will be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading
Alison

Hi Alison,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time. I started having food intolerances as an adult, so am unsure as to what is available for babies. If you go to the products site on the website, I did enter alot of baby foods for various ages. I know Provamel also produce dairy free baby yoghurts and have seen these in Tescos.

Kind Regards and good luck.

Lan. :D

It sounds like you've already been doing the dairy free living for a while. It must be really scary if your son's reaction is so bad, thankfully my daughter only gets bad stomach pains and disturbed sleep.

You might be interested to read our Sainsburys and Tesco threads where we have discovered that the packaging and labelling isn't all that it should be. We have officially declared war on Sainsburys and currently have Trading Standards investigating their non dairy ice cream (non dairy but not dairy free).

welcome to the site. good to hear you've identified the problem. i know it seems to be a huge one but i'm sure someone here will be able to answer any questions you have. lots of people here with differing experiences. ask away and i'm sure we'll come up with the answer.

I have the same problem- I am allergic to milk and carry an epipen and have anaphalaxis. I also have 3 daughters and they all are fine so I do have milk products in the house but I have to be very careful. I would suggest that you check all medicines for milk and not just foods as I had the nasty surprise of having medicine prescribed for me that had milk in it.

Do you have other children as it will be difficult to stay away from dairy all the time, especially when he starts school.
I have been told that people with allergies are allergic to the protein. This means that I can have food with lactose-milk sugar with no problem.
If you have not seen an allergist-NHS or a dietician then I would suggest that you do.You need to be sure that your son is getting enough calcium etc. I get mine from a chewable tablet but that is probably not an option for you.
Hope this helps.
