After eating so much ice cream sorbets in Australia I was missing my ice cream a bit. Until I happened to be walking past the ice cream section in my local Waitrose and next to the Swedish Glace ice cream was their own brand of sorbets, in lemon, mango and raspberry flavours. The raspberry is really nice and tastes just like the one I had in Australia.
I had a look at the Tescos website. They do the same three flavours but they don't list ingredients so I can't be certain whether they're also dairy free. Sainsburys have lemon and mango.
Also, next to these sorbets was a load with a brand name - which I've forgotten the name of. It was bluesomething, I think. They did five really strange flavours like ginger and lemongrass - I can't quite bring myself to try any of those.
sainsbury's!!!! you can't buy from there. haven't you kept up with the forums?:lol2: :lol2:
we're at war with them. plus if the dairyfree icecream has milk then god knows what they put in sorbet.

Yeah, I read that after I posted this. The Sainsburys website does list the ingredients in everything, so their sorbets are definitely dairy free.
ok confession time, i was gasping for a cup of tea yesterday so popped into the sainsbury's near christchurch. after had a look about. in the dairyfree section saw two dairyfree icecreams one raspeberry one toffee. didn't but was very tempted.......
Yes Matt, but are these ice creams really dairy free? When Steve was sent a list of their dairy free ice creams he was only given Swedish Glace and not their own free from flavours. Knowing the growing atkins trend, they are probably only free from carbs.
PS. Still waiting for Trading Standards to come back to me after the non dairy ice cream analysis.
Ok I've also got a confession to make, I had to shop in Sainsburys yesterday- they sell the best wheat free bread for my brother, so didn't have much option, and I also had to do some shopping for my family.
Oh and when I go back to uni the local supermarket is a Sainsburys so it looks like I'll have to be going back there, its either that or Marks and Spencers- not particularly student friendly. Will be visiting Tescos when possible though.
Please don't shun me from the forum!!!
I shall be buying my dairy free things from a health food shop as soon as I can find a decent one there.
You can be our spy and keep informing us how rubbish they are.

I'll be her co-spy as i also shop in Sainsburys, and i will say their range is rubbish but then again its too close to complain and i like buying organic and they seem to have the best range... thats when they actually have any in stock!!!
I noticed those so called dairy-free ice creams as well but luckily i read the ingredients before i bought them!!
well didn't pick them up but they were their own brand freefrom stuff in the seperate freefrom freezer with all the other safe stuff. so i'm guessing that they are safe. next time i'm there i'll have a closer look. didn't this time as i was out for the day and couldn't get them home easily. toffee flavour:drool:

I have to admit that when I first realised I was lactose intolerant I did eat the Sainburys Free From Toffee ice cream. It was very nice and also quite expensive. It must be dairy free as I was fine after eating some.
I don't do Sainsburys anymore, so I have not had any of their Free From for about 2 years now.
iknow it's expensive and it's from sainsbury's but i just might have to try it as i do love toffee:drool:
Is this the toffee and walnut one? I had some at christmas and it is very nice. I'm not a big fan of toffee flavoured stuff as I think a lot of it tastes like coffee (and I hate coffee) but this one was ok.

Yes it is toffee and walnut. It is very nice but I am still not going to put a foot inside Sainsburys.

I noticed yesterday that Swedish Glace do a caramel flavour, which is a bit like toffee, I imagine.
I haven't seen that one. All my local supermarkets only do Swedish Glace in vanilla. Tesco used to have chocolate and strawberry but they only do vanilla now. It is a lot more expensive from health food shops and still very limited in choice. Maybe I should put a big order in with Goodness Direct - they have loads of ice creams (and I want some dry ice. Off topic, I saw someone put some of that in their mouth on tv the other day, they breathed smoke.... coooool!!!)

It was one of the health food shops that I saw the caramel Swedish Glace in. Although I forget the name of it. They had raspberry flavour as well.
which health food shop you talking about angel? what area?
pam, you can put dry ice in your mouth but i seem to remember being told that it can do something...whether it's can cause cancer or something?? or whether it'll just give you frostbite. and let's remember frostbite makes things go black and fall off. how dumb is someone going to look without a tongue? or tastebuds?
lump of dry ice into a bucket of water and stand back. it explodes! ice forms around the dryice sealing it but gas keeps coming off until the ice goes bang!

It was in Poole but they're a big chain, they have two branches in Reading. I just can't remember the name. If someone says it I'll recognise it. I have a feeling their sign is a dark green colour but I could be making that up.
My local holland and barratts seem to have four different flavours, chocolate, vanilla and two more, one might have been raspberry but I'm not sure
i can only think of holland and barrett. not really been in poole to look so don't know.
