cnc - Well done for being so pragmatic about your illness and sorting all that out. I dont think you will take my advice the wrong way and I am always grateful for the support and advice everyone on the site gives me.
Get well soon.
I'm off for my blood tests tomorrow as well as trying to get this tenancy agreement pushed along as they dont seem to have chased up references today. I feel very stressed and feel like saying I dont think I have ever been so stressed but I probably have. And anyway I have got loads of support so I will be fine.
It was nice to be working today - as soon as I have got all this sorted and hopefully moved house i shall be able to advertise and get busy again. Hopefully with some design work.
wow did i miss the long chat or what!
from what i know of post viral fatigue it's a fine act of balancing activity with rest, you must do something but not too much. take multi vits and maybe one of those energy suppliments with ginseng etc
fresh is best but more important is to eat so........something better than nothing.
and then give it time.
See that's what you get for being nocturnal!!
Matt the advice I was given was basically not to do any real exercise until I am well again, and to build it up very gradually. Said I was to rest for now and try to keep up with uni work but under no circumstances was I to go back to proper training the minute I start feeling better!!The doctor was quite stern about that one
Have had breakfast, so will probably go back to bed in a bit!!
Good luck Rebecca, hope it all goes well :)
by exercise i mean movement! i was at the point i was using a walking stick! slowly i have built up and now walk a bit further and without the stick anymore, but i'm a long way off from jogging!
off to kew this morning with daughter. hopefully the weather will be a bit better. nice few hours looking at plants and letting her go mad in climbers and creepers, must remember the book or newspaper! i nodded off last time as she was playing for so long!
if only it wasn't beneath the flightpath it would be idyllic. right have a good day all.
I'm going for a wisdom tooth out this morning. The last one came out with no problems and I had no pain afterwards - just the horrid jelly crater for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping that this one will be the same but it is slightly impacted so I am expecting a little more difficulty. I'll be feeling sorry for myself for the rest of the weekend and have warned that I may not be fit for work on Monday.
Good luck Pam :) Hope it goes well and isn't too sore. I think lots of Swedish glace may be in order!

Good luck Pam. I had one out last year and it was completely painless. But then the local aneasthetic made me poorly for a couple of days. Good to get it done at the end of the week so you can rest for the weekend.

Good luck Pam. I had four out about 2 years ago in two sessions. Thinking about it was worse than than actually having them extracted.
Pam, I was going to say 'good luck' too, but as it's 8.15 am here, your morning will have gone and you will have already had the extraction. So, I hope it all went well, and I wish you a quick recovery and healing.
I've had it done and the anaesthetic has worn off, lots more twisting, crunching and cringing than the last one. I don't feel sore or bruised (yet) but hate that horrible crater and the watery/blood taste. I'm freezing and would really love a hot drink or hot soup but you're supposed to avoid hot drinks (think it can start the bleeding again). I had some luke warm ready brek for lunch as I was starving. I'd like to go to bed for a sleep but someone is hammering outside.
rebecca c
15-10-2005, 05:07 PM
Nice hot bath - maybe? Take it easy Pam. Some homeopathy might help the healing. Arnica and calendula perhaps
I was going to suggest arnica too. Maybe not the hot bath just now as that would increase blood circulation and likelihood of the the gum bleeding too. Sleep sounds a good idea (maybe put on some white noise to drown out the outside noises) as that is a good healing tool, especially if the body is saying it would like to sleep. It's always wise to listen to the body and comply with its needs. Think I might take forty-winks myself!!
well done and hope you're feeling a bit better. i'm a coward and had mine done under general anaesthetic a while back... then the hassle of not probing the gap!
kew was nice, lovely sunshine blue skies. maybe a photo to follow. i gave the camera to my daughter so she rattled off 53 shots i have to now download them all and probably delete 52 of them!
I'm feeling a bit sore this morning, I hope the pain killers kick in soon. I didn't sleep too well last night either so I'll be the bear with the sore head today.
When I had mine done (under general, and only two of them) the surgeon told me to wash my mouth out with hot salt water every few hours. It tastes *horrid* but actually helps with the pain as well as being antiseptic. Might be worth a try.
Hope you feel better soon. Have you got someone looking after you, so you can put your feet up?
Nic
I was told to rinse with warm salt water regularly as well, when I had a couple of teeth out.
Hope you are taking it easy Pam and getting looked after properly :)
Have suddeny realised that if college want me to move back into college grounds that all the food in my freezer is going to have to be eaten (there isn't much of a freezer in the college kitchens). So lasagne and crumble to be eaten today :)
Think I did a bit too much yesterday evening- I walked the 15 minutes to the curry house and back again, and then went on about a 10 minute bike ride to a friends housewarming, where I ended up half asleep on the floor in the middle of the party!! I feel more tired than usual this morning, and haven't actually managed to do anything useful yet. Lesson learnt I guess :(
I can't do salt water rinses, they make me heave. I use antiseptic mouthwash instead which I know isn't good as it contains alcohol. Maybe I should use tea tree oil in warm water instead. I feel better today but have kept the painkillers up as it starts aching and throbbing after a while. I've been trawling the supermarkets for a Gromit mug (free with PG Tips tea bags) but there are none to be found anywhere. I made and ate toad in the hole with mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli and sprouts for tea, followed by bananas with Alpro chocolate custard dessert and now I've got the munchies again. The Maya Gold is calling...... (I'll never sleep if I have chocolate now though).
pg tips and grommit mug!!! now i'm on a quest aswell. fruitless it maybe but sad that i am i want one. i have a ten inch tall grommit cuddly toy that i've had for years and lives in the car, been in four cars now. so the mug will be great if i can find one.
will look today to take my mind off the cost of the car service and mot! i daren't guess how much this is going to cost.
It only costs the price of 160 tea bags (£2.50-£3 depending where you shop) as it is a freebie in special edition packs. The nose turns red when filled with hot liquids and the mug is the shape of Gromit's head with one ear as a handle.
I WANT ONE AND I WANT ONE NOW!!!!! (stamps feet)
They are already appearing on E-bay - the one I saw hadn't finished and had already reached £5.50 plus £3.99 postage.
We had the wobbly Gromit for the parcel shelf of the car and my little girl took a cereal packet figure of Gromit everywhere for months as a 2 year old and never lost it. The boys are pestering to see the new film so we might go on Orange Wednesday during half term.
Am due to see the film next weekened.
We have all sorts of random things like that lying around, we did have the collection of salt and pepper pots they did at one point as well.
We also had a walking shaun and then a fluffy one in the back of the car as well.
I shall have a look for the mug locally- students may not be so bothered :)
now i want one aswell no trace in asda....
see these sites though:
http://www.wandg.com/
http://www.pgmoment.com/
must try harder later to find a mug. tescos here i come.
the gallery was looking bare so i've uploaded a couple of shots. amazingly some of the ones taken by the over excited 7 year old actually are quite good. i didn't want to swamp the gallery though.:D and she's learnt not to waste loads of shots on daddy who just doesn't photo well.

mmmmm the chocolate cake made my mouth water.
Have just been informed by college that they've got me a room in the main building, as of Wednesday, now I just need to find people to help me move in. May have to wait until Friday for most of the stuff to be moved, (Ian is visiting!) but may be able to persuade a friend to help me move in on Wednesday evening.
Chocolate cake?? Have I missed something here?
rebecca c
17-10-2005, 07:51 PM
Claire we are moving too.
:D Picking up the keys to the rental place on Wednesday and moving in on Thursday. So that will be one big weight off my mind - now just got to sell this place and buy a house. Seems to be getting plenty of viewings so I'm sure its just a matter of time and a bit of luck. Nice day digging in the sunshine today and college tomorrow then I guess I'll have to start packing and change of addressing.
Kids are beating each other up so I'd better go.

Claire - visit the gallery :) Mind you the cake is torture for me - those chocolate flakes - I want one now.
Good luck with the move Claire & Rebecca.
Yeah I suddenly realised the discussion was about the gallery, and went to check!!
Moving I suppose in the long run will make things easier for me, but the hassle of packing, may take a few days!!
Right think I'm going to go to sleep soon, been up all day and am verging on being very grumpy soon :)
Good luck Rebecca, hope it all goes well.
Claire, I am glad you have a place at college to move to. Hopefully this will give you a chance to take it easy and get well.
Rebecca, good luck with your move and selling your house.
Even though it was a cool 11 degrees C today, the sun was shining so I decided to take a walk through High Park. Fed some squirrels, chipmunks and ducks. Saw a turtle sunning itself on some logs in the pond, and a female cardinal (my favourite bird--the male ones are a brilliant red) landed on a branch next to me for a shelled peanut. Then I continued down to Lake Ontario before returning home to cook lunch. After scanning/printing extra copies (one each for Hubby and daughter), I solved today's Su-do-ku puzzle (from The Toronto Star) while I ate lunch. Anybody else hooked on that puzzle?

I solved today's Su-do-ku puzzle (from The Toronto Star) while I ate lunch. Anybody else hooked on that puzzle?Oh yes - I've done SO many of those since I got ill! It all started when a friend suggested they might be absorbing enough to keep me sitting down for more than 5 minutes. Now I get all anti-social if I get a book of them, so I try to limit myself to a couple per day!! :lol2:
Today's been an odd one for me. Started with a very civilised breakfast meeting in the Malmaison hotel on the Shore. Sadly it didn't stay great. Got to work to find out that (a) BT engineer had totally the wrong idea of the telephone system we need for the new refuge and (b) the basement of said refuge had been flooded in our recent torrential Edinburgh rains. Ended up having to leg it across the city to two emergency meetings. Whatever happened to 'take it easy'? ;)
I'm REALLY going to get an early night tonight. Honestly. Yes.
lets hope things start working out better for all concerned.
car had mot and service and cost£200. managed to resist spending loads in town but only just.....
:D
I've found a great site www.websudoku.com (http://www.websudoku.com) which has unlimited puzzles. You can check that you have entered the correct numbers by clicking on the "how am I doing button" every few minutes. I'm still doing the easy ones which usually take between 4 and 8 minutes to do but I'm pretty much addicted to them. I also bought the Times Sudoku puzzle book from the book man who comes to work but I copy the numbers out onto a hand drawn grid, then if I go wrong the book isn't wasted - the kids can have a go at doing them too (they are also really into sudoku). You can also buy hand held electronic sudoku puzzles (like gameboy things) - there'd be no stopping me then.
Mum bought a book of sudokus when I was home over summer, the rest of the family did nearly them all for her!!
http://www.sudoku.com/ allows you a 28 day trial of its programme. Useful for those that pay per minute online.
Decided to go to bed at 9 last night, before I dropped, but for some unknown reason I was still awake gone midnight (this is happening far too often for my liking!). So am now still wonderfully tired, even though I was in bed for 12 hours!!
Must start packing very soon :)

I tend to do loads of word puzzles (crosswords etc.). I had a go at my first sudoku puzzle in an 'Around Kent' mag that comes free. I managed to do it and so sent it off to the competition. Hubby took some photocopies of it but I only used 2! A lucky fluke I think! I really need to get on with my cross-stitch.:o
Now I have finally managed to get a muffin tin and muffin cases I am off tomake some.I ended up investing in them in Lakeland, not cheap but I can't stop thinking of dairy free muffins:drool:

I went to see the W&G film this afternoon - it is very funny.
off to the w&g on fri morning i hope! take my little horror as an excuse.
never managed to get into soduko not really my thing.
well tescos have none of the w&g mugs so either they've all sold out, not in the shop yet or staff have swiped them and are busy inputting them into ebay.:( i'll keep looking, if anyone finds them buy me one!;)
I don't think the chocolate muffins were my recipe - if I put them up there they were someone else's recipe as I haven't made them yet. I made more double chocolate chip cookies last night - a double batch, but we'll still be lucky if they last more than 2 days and that's rationning the kids. Also did flapjack but overcooked it a little - I think it could be a jaw breaker.
Moving day!! Well first of several!Am moving in stages (partly as I don't think I could cope with immense amounts of packing in one day, and also its not fair to make friends do several car journeys)
Think I should actually start packing shortly...
Have also done some work- although its taken me about 4 times as long as it should do. But an achievement all the same :)

We went to see the W & G film on Sunday, really funny!! :D My daughter losing her purse (& £5) put a damper on it though. Nobody has handed it in either. She left it on her seat at the cinema but it wasn't there when we went back. Hope the rotten *!"**!** know how upset they made an 8 year old!!
They had 2 W & G mugs left in Asda at the weekend, both were damaged! There's a tea making test on the PG website that's amusing, also a competition.

Glad you like the muffins :) I have now perfected the wheat/gluten/egg and dairy free version now. They have passed the PA taste test.
Linny did you have to sit through countless adverts and a penguin cartoon before W&G started? Some small children were understandably bored with the long wait for the real film. Hell even we were bored.

I just found out that a friend has got a W+G mug put aside for me - he bought SEVEN in all when he heard how rare they were, as he knew various members of his family would want them. :D
The woman at the checkout in Tesco asked if he was auctioning them - he said that no, he just knew a lot of crazy people...
linny
19-10-2005, 07:30 PM
Yes Copper we had to sit through loads of adverts, but we (Megan mainly) enjoyed the penguin film as we'd seen Madagascar, the film they came from. It took me back to the good old days when you got a 'B' film every time, they didn't have an ice-cream seller though! It was a long programme for little 'uns. (and me with a bad spine!!!! ouch!!). Why do they think seats with a tilted back are comfy!
seeing W+g tomorrow. the b movie used to be the extra exciting bit!
no joy with the mugs. doubt well get one now but if anyone sees an undamaged one grab it for me!
daughter to school then maybe a cache or two today.:)
well w+g good. trailer good aswell. keep looking for those mugs as i think they are still being released.
had been checking local tesco without any joy the nyesterday went in to find the empty case where they were that morning. so worth looking again!
mew annoyed? as if.
I rather enjoyed the 'B' feature with the penguins, much to my surprise. Though it was a Friday night, when I really can't cope with anything that requires thinking...;)
W&G was very funny - though I do think the Wrong Trousers was a bit better. I'd definitely recommend it. We went to a late showing to avoid too many small, wriggly children, which I think was a good plan (not having any small wriggly children of our own:D ).
Nic
I'm quite excited about seeing the penguins- I have a slight obsession with them!! It's also likely to be the only bit I'm awake enough to actually see...
Hopefully at an 8.30 showing on a Sunday night, there won't be, as Nic puts it, 'many small, wriggly children'. Just a big group of students :D
Well I'm rather tired again!! Had 12 hours of sleep yesterday, finished unpacking and then went on a wander round town- was quite a long walk, so we had a nice sit down half way round :) Then had quite a busy day, (taking its toll now)- have had to get up as I've an essay to write and my parents are due this afternoon.... Think this weekend will test how well I am (currently not doing that well-but nothing sleep won't solve!!!!)

I meant to go to the cinema this weekend, couple of things I want to see there! Unfortunately I'm totally shattered after my first full week back at work, so I've spent most of it in bed (I sympathise with you, Claire!).
However, did manage to make my friend's (early) Halloween party last night for a couple of hours. Got all dressed up in a PVC ballgown and feathered coat in lieu of doing fancy dress, and nobody seemed to mind. One of my friends was dressed as a 'just fed zombie bride' and seemed to have used about 3 large bottles of fake blood on her jaw and wedding dress. She's been warned that the blood sometimes stains skin, so heaven knows what National Trust For Scotland (where she works) will make of her on Monday. :lol2: Another friend went as 'a terribly burned man', having spent most of the day painting liquid latex onto his skin and decorating it. We also had a gladiator, Zorro, a witch, a ninja, etc. All quite entertaining. Matt went as...erm...Matt. I got told off and informed that I had to make him make an effort next year.
Unfortunately at around 10pm I started feeling pretty rough and had to come home, but it was great to get out and about and see people again. :)

I have had a very exciting day. I did the dusting so I start the week ahead. I then spent a good two hours trying to tidy the garden. When the weather is fine this week I hope to get the garden sorted and the bulbs planted! When the weather is wet I will be hoovering and shopping. I might even find time for some family history.
When I go back to work after this half term week people will say did you have a good holiday - now what should I reply?
kamagrian, i wasn't there!! though the thought of latex suits....:o
i have to say the penguins were my fav character from madagascar, but then i am a little nuts with a dark sense of humour. i think they were mainly put in for the adults, well that's my excuse.
did two caches yesterday nice long walk along the river hamble with a suprisingly uncomplaining daughter. chocolate cake works wonders doesn't it?
keep you eyes peeled for the w+g mugs they are just appearing now in the shops. i keep getting to the shops to see new empty display boxes for them!
maybe i'll time it right one of these days.
It's my birthday on Sunday and I WANT A MUG!!!! (Stamps feet and sulks) I've got everyone looking out for them for me but no luck around here. Tesco had the advert as a sticker on the floor but there were no mugs to be found. I would rather have had a send away offer then at least there's a better chance of getting one.
It rained all day here yesterday and looks the same for today. I don't think the rest of the week will be much better - typical half term weather. I'm full of cold too. Looks like I'm in for a fun week - why did I decide to take the week off work?

So when does a Senior Member become something else? I would have guessed that Claire would have moved up a level at 1000 posts (I recently became a Senior Member at 100 posts). When did you become 'Part of the Furniture' Pam? In fact, does anyone know all the member levels and at what number of postings they change? I think Junior Member changes to Member at 10 postings.
I became part of the furniture when I changed my profile title to say so. (In user CP, Change profile), you can be what you want, I just didn't like Senior.
I was about the 6th person to sign up for this site so I've been around for quite a few years now, since the very early days. That's why I used that title.
Your signature looks scary Pen, is there anything that you *can* eat?

Good job really as I had an 8am meeting at the refuge and had to be there half an hour early to photograph some flood damage!! You can probably manage without the cheese, bu the other stuff I would definatly take with you :) Enjoy!!Hmm, yes. Given Cheezly's habit of going mouldy at a moment's notice, it might be sentient, growling and demanding its own lodgings and voting rights by the time you get to your destination. I am no good at trivia. I try hard to keep on topic too :)
Ooo Matt I know you made the latex comment just hoping that somebody would say something - well I am that somebody. Now let me see - is it a wetsuit? Are you taking up a new hobby? Surfing? Windsailing? Diving? I don't like getting my face wet when I swim so all of the above are out for me. :)
Copper I thought Matts comments regarding latex were to do with Gills PVC outfit? Am I confused again??
Copper
25-10-2005, 01:11 PM
No you are probably right, it is me that is confused. Too much going on in my brain and it has clearly gone into overload. Never mind I am taking my mother shopping in Tesco this afternoon that will sort it out. One of the main roads to the store is closed and of course it is one that I use - bet I forget. I will have to take a large detour to get there due to the crazy traffic lights and roundabout system here.

I'm SO excited! We've got tickets to go and see Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night .. Live! You won't spot me though ... as you don't know what I look like ... He he!:D
Hope you have a great Birthday on Sunday Pam, :birthday: thought I'd wish you a good one now as I might not be on here over the weekend.

Ah but I do know what you look like as I have that x stitch magazine :) You will be safe though as nothing could make me watch anything to do with dancing.

Oh no Copper! Don't tell anyone!!!;) I've just been on the fan forum for the dance programme to see if I can get some time details and oh, I feel old, out of touch with technology and modern language!!!!!:o
I think this site is great, so easy to use and read - thanks Steve!
I think we should be allowed to spot you on tv (I won't be able to as I don't have a tv), would make it more interesting :)
Have fun:)
Have been unemployed since the specialist bookstore I used to work at went out of business in June. I went for an interview today for a company who has a bank of people to do work at events, conferences and exhibitions etc. They decided to take me on, and I have my first job tomorrow afternoon at a celebrity gala. They also gave me full-time (pre-conference) work for 3 weeks in November, so I doubt I will be online much during that time. Oh, and then this afternoon I got a phone call for an interview with a general bookstore on Thursday evening. I haven't yet heard anything regarding my application (that I submitted on the off-chance that they were hiring) with a health food store.
So will be clothes shopping tomorrow to find some suitable office attire--having lost 20 lbs since February I only have one pair of trousers (that I bought for my interview today) that fit!
congrats on the jobs pen, just like busses three come along at once!!
re latex yeah sorry my sense of humour/ mindset is far more unbroadcastable than just saying something about wetsuits....:o
now if you don't tell us who you are we'll just watch and have alugh picking out the best couple that we think you could be! how much worse could it be to know which you are?
so copper get to tescos? find any w+g mugs?? the tower park one i presume?
Congratulations Pen on the job (s) I hope the interview for the book store goes well.
Another rainy day here, it was fine in the morning so we nipped into town to get a bit of shopping then it started raining on the way back to the car. It threw it down last night, my poor guinea pigs have a wet hutch where the rain blew in - really must get them a cover sorted out.
I don't know if you remember all the trouble we had earlier in the year when Yorkshire Water renewed the water mains and I had sleepless nights due to the noise of cars driving over the metal plates covering the hole they'd dug - well they're at it again!
The only warning we got was that our water might be turned off at various points all week. Yesterday they turned up and dug a huge hole outside our drive to renew a different water mains that just happens to join there. I went straight out and bough ear plugs which I had in last night, didn't hear the noise of cars driving over plates, but wasn't comfortable with things stuck in my ears - now my ears are itching. I rang YW to complain yesterday that we'd had no notice (I'm entitled to £10 for that alone) and found out that this work will take about 2 weeks! Not a happy bunny.
And our neighbour's (who lives in Japan) parents rang to say that they are having some work done on her house and this will cause us major disruption.
The kids are being reasonably well behaved though and we're almost half way through half term - I'm surviving. Bradford film and photography museum today for a meet up with friends from another web message board.
I remember the photography museum, I really enjoyed it there :)
Congratulations Pen, hope you enjoy the jobs.
Pam, hope you get a decent response from YW and that the disruption isn't too bad.
I must get my essay finished today- had to get up this morning as the bed had to be stripped by 9am for the cleaner, but I want to be asleep still, so will try to do something productive!! I hope it stays dry today

Congratulations on the job Pen - it sounds really interesting, tell us if you meet anyone famous!:)
Sorry to hear about the noise pollution Pam. They decided to resurface our road this week! Has to be in the hols as I live opposite a school. So much for a lay-in!
In the doghouse a bit today. I thought my mum-in-law had an op on Monday and so rung last night to see how she was. Problem is she had it on Friday! I'm off to buy some flowers today!:o
I'm now at the 'what shall I wear?' stage for Saturday. The dress code is smart/glamourous! It depends on the weather really as to know what to wear as we'll have to queue. It's so easy for men!!!! I've put a photo on the gallery if anyone wants to try and spot us on TV!

Well done on the job pen.
Am i the only one having the worst day ever. Started off having really bad cramps, then the car engine siezed on me and now i have to go and get a new one. Cant get my washing dry coz of this stupid weather and my tv tube has just blown.
Thank god for my holiday to tenifeife on fri.
I need some cheering up. HELP!!:bash:
Awww goose, sounds like you've had a terrible day.
Have a nice bath and some good food :) Come and rant in chat (you did this just as I typed it, quite spooky!!)
Thanks to all of you for your congratulations on my getting a job. I have to be at this first job in two hours--I wish I would stop shaking. Hopefully I won't be so bad once I get there but in the meantime have to decide which public transport route to take to get there (2 choices--all subway, or subway and streetcar). Decisions, decisions!!
Pam, hope you soon get a cover for your guinea pigs. Aren't GPs wonderful creatures? We had four of them when we lived in England. BTW are your earplugs made of latex? The itching could be an allergic reaction. I am allergic to latex and itching is just one of the symptoms.
Hope everyone elses problems get sorted out too.
I have to be at this first job in two hours--I wish I would stop shaking.
Was really confused as to why your job was starting in two hours and then remembered you lived in Canada!! Hope it goes well- take whichever transport is normally more reliable....
Aren't GPs wonderful creatures? We had four of them when we lived in England.
I missed the first part of this statement, and was again really confused!! I really must learn to read!!
Essay is nearly done....Have been saying this for several hours, but have been struggling to be coherent. Will get it done soon and then have the rest of the evening off as a treat to myself!!
i too had to re read about gp's being funny creatures!:D
so how did the first day go then pen?
i went and did 4 caches so lots of walking for me. very tired but good for me. quiet day today i think. then the horror for the weekend !:) no idea what to do with her yet depends on the weather and how tired she is...usually gets to stay up to late and eat garbage when at the witch in law's. we'll see.
Goose what a terrible day - I hope today is a better one.
Pen I hope the job went ok. And yes, guinea pigs are lovely little characters. We adopted these two in August from a friend who no longer wanted them, they are both mature ladies but we love them, especially when they squeak for their breakfast in a morning.
We had a good day out at the photography museum, it was nice to put names to faces after chatting online for about 4 years, the kids enjoyed it too. Then we did an Orange Wednesday (2 for 1) at the cinema to see W&G, the offer saved us £11 so it was worth doing - why is it so expensive to go to the cinema? So quite a hectic but enjoyable day yesterday.
Think I may end up writing this day off as useless all ready!! I've not stopped yawning yet and want to go back to bed!!
Am going to have a nice quiet weekend to make up for last weekends madness, but other than that I have no plans- apart from to lurk around online :D
Did you enjoy W&G Pam?? I've not been to the photography museum for years, is there still a lot there?
I'm not sure if I enjoyed it or not, I think I was expecting it to be better, but I didn't dislike it. My shuffling 6 year old next to me together with a chair kicker behind me didn't help. I thought the penguins were funnier.
I was brassed off that we had 30 minutes of too loud adverts before the films started. When it is a kids' film they should know that little ones don't want to wait any longer than necessary. By the time W & G came on there was a constant stream of littlies being taken out to the loo. At least in the old days you got your short film followed by interval with adverts, ice cream seller etc then the main film. I remember going to see Grease on a school trip (special showing for our year at school - 90 kids plus teachers in a crocodile into town) there was a film about skateboarding before Grease and I still remember it even though it is nearly 30!!!!! years on. Sadly our local twin screen cinema closed down years ago when people stopped going (you could almost have a private showing sometimes), we have to go to the huge multi-screen ones now and pay a fortune to get in.
Your signature looks scary Pen, is there anything that you *can* eat?
Sorry Pam, took a while getting around to answering this... fruit is a bit restricted but I eat blueberries, raspberries, cooked apples (allergic to raw ones) and lots of bananas. The carbohydrates I eat are rice (including rice 'pasta'), corn (cornflakes [sugar-free ones] corn flour [tortillas, pancakes], and potatoes. Occasionally have quinoa flakes as a porridge. I eat lots of veggies, and lunches are usually stir-fried rice and veggies, or corncakes if I am in a rush. I use lots of olive oil and apple cider vingegar, and buy LF pesto. I use goats' milk, cheese and yogurt, so that makes life a bit easier, and I eat meat too. My snacks are medjool dates, and very, very, occasionally crisps cooked in sunflower oil.
I don't think that science allows for biscuits and cakes that don't have sugar and raising agents (bi-carb or baking powder) in them, but if anyone knows differently, please let me know. I would also love to make gluten-free bread but haven't found a recipe that would allow that (and I am not sure if sugar is essential to make yeast rise). Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Pam, our guinea pigs were all females too--I love the way they squeak too. Will you be bringing them indoors in the winter--I think they need to be in temperatures above 4 degrees C? We put ours in the shed for their first winter but that was too cold (I would put a hot water bottle under their hay!!) and we would have a greenhouse heater in there. The following winters we had their hutches in the utility room which meant they were warm and they had company during the long, cold months.
Claire, Toronto time is five hours behind the UK--sorry to confuse! My first four-hour job went well and thankfully my nerves calmed down after the first 30-minutes. Linny, I was told there were a few famous people around but I had no idea who they were!
Pen, I'm pretty much permenantly confused, but am currently worse than usual. I think its to do with the tiredness- have a return visit to the doctors tomorrow, am seeing a different one, so should be fun!! (I dislike doctors greatly, am slightly scared of them to be honest).
Glad the job went ok
Pam, we didn't have that many adverts as far as I remember. The penguins were very good :) I think the latest W&G is very different from the others, its much more aimed at an adult audience, with lots to read and notice- did need to pay a lot of attention to all the sidelines I thought!! Maybe because I was in a cinema with mostly adults, we got a better experience??
Claire, I still can't help thinking that there is a possibility that you have symptoms of West Nile Virus. I think you said you could have been bitten by some kind of midge while you were in the US. There are many kinds of mosquito that come in many different sizes. Anything that bit you could have bitten something else infected first. Something has to be causing you to have a fever and feel the need to sleep a lot, and if you have more confusion now than when you were well, it might be worth mentioning it to your doctor. The virus can be tested for.
This is what the Canadian Public Health site http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/wn-no/symptom_e.html says:
In mild cases, there may be flu-like symptoms, including fever, headache and body aches. Some people may also develop a mild rash, or swollen lymph glands. For people with more severe illness, symptoms could include the rapid onset of severe headache, high fever, stiff neck, nausea, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, drowsiness, confusion, loss of consciousness, lack of coordination, muscle weakness and paralysis. Anyone who has a sudden onset of these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
Another part of that page says that long-term effects can be:
physical effects, such as long-term muscle weakness and paralysis, fatigue and headache;
cognitive effects, such as confusion, depression, problems with concentration and memory loss;
functional effects, such as difficulty with preparing meals, going out, shopping, etc.Hope this other doctor will be able to help you.
My temperature has calmed down a lot now, so think any fever I may have had has gone, is just the sleepiness/ I look very dozy/dopey a lot the time. I struggle to form coherent sentances sometimes, but am quite capable of cooking and shopping if I know what I want/ can be bothered. Will push this doctor for full tests and probably retests of whatever.... It could be much worse, so I should be thankful really. Am managing to function, just not on the level I'm used to :)
Thanks for the concern :)
Our guinea pigs are 3 and 2 years old and they have always lived outside. There isn't room for them in the shed unfortunately. If it gets really cold as is forcast they might have to go into the cellar but it is dark and damp so not ideal. I do worry about them though.
Pen, it must be awfully frustrating for you being on such a restricted diet. I find it bad enough cutting out milk and reducing wheat, never mind anything else.

It's been like summer here - a good day for gardening Copper. I've just seen the news and they forecast a bad winter as in 1963. I wasn't around then but my Mum has just described it and they lived in London at the time, which quite often misses the nasty cold winters. I'm not looking forward to it one bit.
I'm busy packing with Megan as she's off to see Nan and Grandad for the weekend, as we're going to the dancing show. They're house sitting in Herne Bay whilst my poor old brother is in Barbados! The rich relations!!
Copper I hope you feel better soon.
Has been a lovely day here as well, wasn't quite warm enough to be described as summer (although maybe a British summer!!)
Linny hope the show is fun, are you tape recording it, so you can check when you get back, whether you were on tv??
*Was too lazy to post again, so thought I'd edit this instead* Fozzybear, hope you feel better soon. Have just been having a conversation with someone else about having a bath as well, seems to be the plan for this evening!!

Ouch! I'd have a long soak in the bath Copper - try and relax those muscles. It's a good excuse for one anyway! :D I might have one myself and relax with a Terry Pratchett book.
I'm trying to fight off a virus at the moment, I've been feeling pretty rough but fortunately it's not anything like as virulent as some viruses I've had in the past (a couple I had left me in bed unable to lift my head - really not fun at all!) so I've managed to avoid going off work. How I feel has been very variable though so I'll wake up feeling ok, then within an hour I'll feel awful, pick up a couple of hours later and then feel absolutely rank a little while on! I'll be glad when it's gone!

I will ache tomorrow then feel fine on Saturday when the weather man has predicted another window of gardening weather. I have to plant my bulbs yet!!!
1963 - ah yes I remember it well. We lived in the East End of London and I can remember snow on the ground for months. My feet were always cold and I had chilblains on my toes. Perhaps that is why I hate winter so much - my memory of winter 1963.
Anyway how can they predict what the winter will be like when they can't predict five days of weather very accurately.
Fozzybear, try taking three drops of oregano oil (under the tongue, and swish down with lots of water) once a day at the first sign of a virus or infection. It has antiviral, antibiotic, and antiparasitic properties and it works wonders. I swear by it--a must for any medicine cabinet. I tend to take a 30-day course of it, but a 7-day course could do the trick. Because of its antibiotic properties it is wise to also take some probiotics (just as you would if you were taking a pharmaceutical antibiotic--not that you would take that for a virus). Good thing about oregano oil is it is totally natural! A good health food store can give you advice on oregano and probiotics. Get well soon.
Copper, hope your back recovers soon.
Pam, changing my diet was hard work at first, but I am used to it now. It is sometimes a bit frustrating not being able to grab a sandwich for lunch, or being able to have a biscuit if I need a snack, and I have given up eating out too. But the improvement in my health, skin and weight far outweighs any inconvenience, so I am happy to stick to the diet--I just have to plan ahead.
pen. yeast needs some form of sugar to rise but that can be fructose ie from apples, blueberries etc or even lactose from the goats milk, will just take longer to rise, can you have honey? that'll do the trick no problem.
savoury biscuits can be without rising agent, or pancakes, flour and suitable liquid will make a batter.
students feeling confused tired and so on. how ould we know if they were all suffering from west nile virus or not. standard definition of you average student isn't it?
i managed a couple of hours in the garden doing odds and sods as it was so nice. not looking forward to a bad winter as i'm cold all the bloody time anyway! but it's long overdue and will be good for the garden and so on, killing off all the pests. also keeping people in and hopefully not spreading germs.
a;most given up on finding any mugs. i tend to go to what was uci cinemas now cine? they have a before midday price of £3.50 and it tends to be quite empty.
might risk a trip to bournmeouth today with the horror if she's not too tired from spending the week at the witch in laws.
have a good one
Matt I feel quite offended about that. Would probably argue if I could be bothered, but am far to sleepy!! Why do I always agree to the morning appointments at the doctors??
Copper there are very good reasons why weather can't be predicted accurately very far in advance, (not that I can remember these at the moment), there are also reasons they can suggest there will be a very cold winter- failing that its a load of scaremongering, which inevitably will be put down to anthropogenic climate change....
It cost me something like £4.50 to go to the cinema (although I actually don't recall paying, think I might owe someone some money for that!!), but its so expensive for what it is.
Copper

It cost us £4.50 to go to UCI. We don't go to the cinema very often as it is so expensive. I find the smell of popcorn sickly too. Why do people need to eat great bucket loads of the stuff?
Matt - good job you didn't want to venture into Bournemouth yesterday as there were traffic jams. They even had to get the deckchairs out!!!! I know it was warm but not that warm.
I am going to get my chores done this morning then spend the afternoon catching up on family history.
Hey the spell checker works now :)
Copper you're lucky it costs about £5.20 for an adult ticket here. Student discount, isn't that great really, but better than nothing!!
Hmmm well this morning I spent 45 minutes talking to the doctor- I feel so sorry for those who were waiting to see him after me. Won't bore you with the details.
Feel rather poked and prodded now though!!
I must do some laundry shortly- I've only got two pairs of socks left, so am quite tempted just to go out and buy some more :)

What was the doctor's verdict?
I guess it is a toss up really - will it take more energy to go to the shops and buy more socks or do the laundry?
I hope the dr was helpful Claire, has he made you feel any better?
Here's a pic of my piggies who are playing out today in the mild weather.

My little piggies
What was the doctor's verdict? Well basically this one agrees with the previous one. So I guess thats something. Have got to start a graded exercise programme of wich I've been told it may take weeks (no marathon running for a quite a while apparently). So tomorrow (had a bad night through stress) am going to take a walk round the gardens as something extra- he said do about 5% extra and work up slowly, but if I'm sleeping more than currently I'm doing too much. Said he will ring if the throat swab or urine tests show anything up.
Was quite a nice doctor really, have got to go back in two weeks, as they want to see how I'm getting on.... Looks like I could be down for a while :( But could be much worse, has said I'm nowhere near being on the Chronic Fatigue end of the spectrum :)
I guess it is a toss up really - will it take more energy to go to the shops and buy more socks or do the laundry? Would be more fun to buy socks, but really think I should so my laundry.... Will see if I've got enough money first though (£15). Sleep time I feel :)
Pam they're very cute!! Are they named?
Oh and in other news, have just spoken to my mum and am going to investigate whether this is dairy free!! http://www.lakelandlimited.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/GBP/ParametricSearch-Start;sid=J550KLhif5VYIfsAOYl4LhCinUKVZikrSJ0=?sea rch_typecode=2&search_typecode=4&search_typecode=10&search_typecode=16&search_online=true&search_availability=true&search_category_recursive=true&search_attribute_keyword=name&search_attribute_keyword=shortDescription&search_attribute_keyword=longDescription&search_attribute_keyword=SKU&sort_attribute_1=product_name&sort_direction_1=ascending&search_precision_keyword=0&search_query_keyword=advent+calander
Sounds like it will be a lengthy process trying to get well again, a shame that you will have to give up on all your sports.
My pigs - Fudge is the ginger and white one, Honey is the brown and gold one (she is an agouti - her hairs are brown with gold tips). Honey is a bit of a bully and is the eldest - about 3 1/2, Fudge puts up a good argument but usually loses out, she's 2 1/2. So they are getting quite old really. They only squeak when they want some food or if they are arguing.

Ah yes Lakeland. Today they sent me a Christmas gifts catalogue which I looked at whilst eating my lunch. Half of the catalogue is devoted to cakes, biscuits and sweeties. Was there an ingredient listed? Was there heck. I felt it was a form of torture to send that catalogue to me. I think that I might email them later.
Am going to take a trip into Lakeland over the weekend I think, and will have an investigation into the advent calendar.
Looking at sweets and chocolates doesn't normally bother me, as I know what happens if I take them.
Pam, yes I'm quite annoyed at the prospect of being out of rowing and diving for quite a while, but guess I'll have to put my health first!!
Copper
28-10-2005, 03:15 PM
Yes I feel sick if I eat just one square of milk chocolate. My point really was that some of those sweeties might be ok for me but how can I tell?
I used to like Toblerones and Walnut whips. I miss milk chocolate :(
Claire you will get back into sport a lot quicker if you do as you are told. You know that already though :) It must be hard having no energy and missing rowing and diving.
I got your point, my attitude is just lazier, I stick with what is safe- its easier, maybe not as fun and variable, but safe! They could do with some sort of coding/ingredients though.
I miss mars bars!
I have been doing what I've been told, which is why I've not got any worse!! Have just been to bed for about 3 hours, which was nice, although I'm quite tired as I've just literally woken up :) Am meant to be seeing a play tonight, so need to try and stay awake!
pen. yeast needs some form of sugar to rise but that can be fructose ie from apples, blueberries etc or even lactose from the goats milk, will just take longer to rise, can you have honey? that'll do the trick no problem.
savoury biscuits can be without rising agent, or pancakes, flour and suitable liquid will make a batter.
Thanks Matt. I might try activating some yeast with goats' milk. I can have honey, but just as I can't stand the smell of maple syrup, I don't like the smell or taste of honey! I wonder if frozen blueberries would work. I need to go out and buy some more gluten-free flour, but there are so many grains (and even bean flours, but I wouldn't use those--very probably GM) to chose from. The rice bread I bought was stodgy and wouldn't crisp up even after being under the grill for 10 minutes, so I am wondering what the consistency of other gluten-free breads will be. Does anyone have any experience of making such things, and was it necessary to add guar gum or similar?
I make batter with corn flour and goats' milk (plus egg and salt) so have tried pancakes and Yorkshire puds and they are fine. I just need some sweet cookies now (even if I have to add honey, or stevia), but I am stuck with the raising agent problem.
Here's a pic of my piggies who are playing out today in the mild weather.
Ahh, I want one!
Now, where did I read how to attach a photo?
pen the blueberries, when thawed, should be ok as they'll have fructose, you may have to leave it a little longer to rise.
we have doves flours here which is gluten free mix of several different types. so sorry i'm not sure which is best i'll try and see if i can find a mixture for you. you do need some guar gum to help it bind like the gluten would.
can you not have bicarb to use a s raisng agent? or gluten free baking powder? do you need a raising agent? i don't think fridge cookies need it. they are ones you make the dough and then chill it in a roll in the fridge before cutting slices to put in the oven. again i'll have a look when i can and see if i can find the receipe.
claire plenty of time to do sport, follow the doc's advice.
now i miss cold mars bars, and nibbling each layer off bit by bit. but then i've always admitted being barking mad. same aplies to most choc bars. mut be genetic because i swear i've not taught my daughter to do it and she does much to the disgust of the ex!:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
bournemouth not too bad yesterday, bit windy but not too crowded. only hung around for a little while.
Pen, if you go into the advanced reply option (or click on Post Reply rather than doing a quick reply) you can click on the paperclip symbol and then browse your computer for a picture to add. I had to play about with the photo in Microsoft Digital Image Pro to get it small enough to upload and it seems to be a bit on the small side but I managed eventually. When you have got it to the right size you press upload and close that window, then when you click on the paperclip again the photo that you have uploaded should be listed and you just click on that. (That's how I did it anyway).
You can "add image" but I found out by experience last time that you get a huge picture then. By doing it as an attachment you get a thumbnail which can be enlarged by clicking on it.
claire plenty of time to do sport, follow the doc's advice.
I am, honestly!!!! I am going to take a walk around the college gardens today as my increase in exercise.
Think I'm going to have to go speak to my neighbour- who put their tv/whatever on at a quarter to four this morning, and was loud enough to wake me.... I was not amused
I only used to dissect certain chocolate bars- chocolate fingers were a good one for that, and penguins (both quite difficult to do, but just an excuse to attempt to eat more of them!!)

Matt you should have come across to Poole - I have some dairy, wheat and gluten free double chocolate muffins in the freezer :) I thawed a couple out in the microwave yesterday and we had them hot for afternoon tea.
Claire I hope that the walk round the garden does not wear you out. How thoughtless of somebody to put a TV on loud at 4am. I hope that they take notice of your quiet word.
I decided against the walk around the gardens instead, when I took a group trip into town instead of going to just the places I wanted to, so think thats enough exercise, plus I'm going to a bbq this evening.
Got my lollipop advent calendar- lots of E numbers :)
Oh and I decided to buy more socks instead of doing laundry....Will have to be done soon though, but its quieter in the laundrette during the week.
Thanks for the instructions Pam.
Here is a picture of the guinea pigs we had back in England (we had to find them a new home when we left). L-R Whitey (I think her real name was Snowdrop, but we could never remember it, so the other name stuck), Buttercup, Rosie, and Poppy.

They're very cute as well!!
Must say I appreciate the reminder with your name :) Helps us poor soles who are very confused!!
Must remember to have my extra hour of sleep- just what the doctor ordered I feel! :)
can you not have bicarb to use a s raisng agent? or gluten free baking powder? do you need a raising agent?
Unfortunately bicarb is one of my banned substances, and it is one of the ingredients in baking powder too. Not sure if there are any other raising agents available though (wouldn't need it for making bread). Now if only I could have sugar, then a raising agent would be useful to me so I could make cake or cooked cookies.

Today I am mostly doing......nothing. And it's driving me mad.
I'm on strict orders to rest well this weekend, so my boyfriend is basically waiting on me hand and foot. Whilst this may SOUND idyllic, I'm the world's worst convalescent. If I see mess, it's my gut instinct to get up and take care of it. If I can't find a book, I'll go looking for it. Etc. Staying still and not working isn't REALLY in my nature!
But I'm not doing badly. Seen some great films this weekend - including Anita and Me, Panic Room and Sideways - so I've had a reason to sit still. I also had a text from a friend living in the South of France saying that (for reasons I won't go into) he has to get to Orkney and Shetland after the weekend, and asking if he could stay in the meantime. Of course I've said yes.... It's great to see him, but there are now TWO men to henpeck me into staying still and acting lazy. *sigh*
Anyway, that's me. Back to work tomorrow for a long training day. I don't mind so long as I don't have to PROVIDE any of said training, and it looks like I'll escape that particular pleasure. :D
So...life's not bad. I get to do this at home from my spangly new work laptop too. Oh joy.
i just need to train my daughter to wait on me hand and foot. hard enought to get her to keep her own room fairly tidy let akone the rest of the house! anyway gives me something to do.
didn't get up to much yesterday, bought some creeping thyme and a couple of lavenders to go by pond. wandered around the garden centre and picked up a couple of seeds that just happened to fall off into my hand!! bad habit but it doesn't hurt anyone.....
great idea copper but you haven't told me where you live! there were a couple of caches over your way i keep meaning to do. so if you hear of a tall bloke swearing at a large phone walking round in circles in the woods you'll know i've been. the "phone" is a gps.
pen, my suggestion would be shortbread, no raising agents needed. can sweeten using fruit topping. plenty of flat breads to choose from. i have a gluten, wheat and dairy free cookbook but limited in no raising agent receipes. blinis worth trying then have either sweet or savoury topping.
pm me if you want.
right have a good one
We went to view a house yesterday which, although it needs a lot of work doing, would be ideal for us. We are putting an offer in today and getting our house on the market. Lots of tidying and cleaning needed here today I think.
Gill, glad you're finally listening to the doctors.
Matt, no training your daughter to tidy up after you!! Lazy men :bleh:
Pam, good luck with the house, hope you get things sorted.
Today- I may do my laundry, unless someone has something more interesting to do, and then I'll leave it!! Have got to do some work as well on Industrial Districts - supervisor has been very good and said I don't need to write an essay just do the reading. :)
BBQ yesterday was fun, although I was very tired and we headed back about 10.30, but had been sorting things out since about 6, so was long enough really.
i'd be happy to get her to tidy her own room without needing me stood there like a hawk! is still a joke and she doesn't mind but you do need to literally tell her to do each thing or it doesn't get done!
but that's kids for you. just dropped her off with the ex. weather was really horrid. belting down with rain. decided against going for a walk. might go for one later if stays dry which ofcourse it has been since i decided to not go!
good luck with the offer pam. and hopefully with getting someone interested in yours.
well here i am back on the site and in the chat room at 2pm as i had promised lan. where is everyone else? i don't know you try to be sociable....:o
something i said???
not woken up to no new posts for a very long time!!!!:( hopefully it's because you all had a really good sunday.....
To be fair, we talked a fair amount in chat after, I'd gone into there to stop you complaining, so you can't expect us to post as well as chat really can you??
Got 3 lectures today, with an hour gap between each of them :( so that will probably be my day done. Not particularly useful as I have imminent deadlines for various things!!

Well, I don't want to bore anyone as I'm not sure if there are any Strictly Come Dancing fans here, but it was BRILLIANT!! :D :D Just getting in was a bonus as only about 50-60 of the 400 audience are the public.
We sat on one of the balconies so had a great view. :w00t1: Met James Martin, Darren Gough, Camilla, Erin, Darren Bennett, Anton, Gloria Hunniford, Fiona Philips and Brendan Cole, and got their autographs. Saw Freddie Flintoff, Adam Woodyatt, Sid Owen and lots more familiar faces in the audience. Could have got photos with the dancers and celebrities, but didn't want to risk not getting in by sneaking in a camera.
:band: Michael Buble was the music guest and was great.
Oh well back down to Earth!
Seems like you enjoyed yourself Linny!! Glad you had fun, is always nice when something you're so excited about turns out to be brilliant :)

I am glad that you had fun Linny.
Claire - impending deadlines - you will just have to pace yourself. Cat naps perhaps?
I should finish work at 12.15pm and actually finished at 3.45pm :( At this rate I will be taking the last week of term off as TOIL. Somebody really got on my nerves today and that was only third hand via phone calls. I see this person in the flesh tomorrow - I feel another bad day coming on. I made sure that my boss saw me leaving late and he did at least thank me for staying.
Impending deadlines- If I make them I make them, if I don't well I don't and its tough luck- supervisors are aware of the situation, and my DoS says he'll sort out any problems. Am trying not to get too far behind though.
Hope tomorrow isn't too bad for you Copper, best of luck.
name dropper linny! good that you enjoyed it. james martin nice in person is he? he appears to be on tv but you never know do you.
carefull copper you're about to have your 900 post. then it's only a short trip to us 1000plus posters but as you say quality counts:D
and yes i expect stuff here or else what am i going to read at 4am??? selfish of me i know.
well no one single trick or treater! helped that the rain was pouring down so probably kept the little dears in. what a shame:)
i've no prob with the little ones but when you get teenagers doing it ......
We had a constant stream of trick or treaters from 5pm through to 8.15pm and used up all our supply of sweets (got to admit to being a bit stingy with them as there were so many children came) but none of them were too old. I think the oldest ones were my eldest's friend who is 12 and his neighbour who is a couple of years older but has learning difficulties, most were a lot younger.
More tidying and cleaning last night to get the house looking half decent for the estate agent's photos today. Unfortunately we have got workmen digging the road up outside so I don't know if I will get the car down the drive in the pics. (curse Yorkshire Water and Balfour Beatty yet again!)
We had a dry, warmish day yesterday put it is chucking it down at the moment - I suppose it had to come.
Back at work yesterday after a week off so very busy with a lot of catching up to do.
Linny, I'm glad you enjoyed your night out, it sounds like you got your money's worth, seeing all those celebrities. Did you spot yourself on tv?
Claire, hope you're not doing too much, 3 lectures sounds a lot when you're suffering as much as you are. I hope they are making concessions for you.
Matt, you're so demanding!!
No trick or treaters at my door either....:lol2: (Vistors are banned from visiting the residential areas of college)
May actually be dry here, which would be a miracle, got soaked yesterday :(
Pam, the three lectures themselves wouldn't have been to bad, had it not been for the hour gap between each of them. The first gap I decided to do some work, which meant going to the top floor of our building- is a surprisingly long way up!! and for the second decided to make a made cycle home (was pouring with rain and I needed lunch), so meant I got about 15 minutes sit down before I had to rush back:(. Went to bed when I got back, helped a lot :)
Hope you all have nice days today
linny
01-11-2005, 02:29 PM
Pam, hope things with the house are going well.
:o We did spot ourselves on tv but only because we knew exactly where we were! Most of the other people you see on tv are the friends/rellies of the dancers/celebs I think. The front row people near the judges are those who win competitions to get there.
James Martin and Darren Gough were huge (and rather nice!;) )! :o Anton and Brendan were smaller than they look on TV, quite thin, and the female dancers seemed taller and broader. Fiona Philips was lovely we had a chat with her and also Camilla was friendly. Erin Boag looks like a porcelain doll - beautiful!
We don't tend to get trick and treaters now, one year they pinched everyones garden ornaments and threw them in the bushes up the road. I never gave them money as they were teenagers and had been seen trying to buy fags and fireworks.
Can't believe it's November - the weather here is beautiful. Haven't had to put our heating on much yet, just half hour in the morning.:)
Off to try to tally the bank statement now!!!!
Bye

Linny I am quite envious as me and the boys enjoy strictly. Sounds like a fab evening.
We have moved into the rented place, our chain is back in place as our buyer has found a new buyer so should be in the new place in the new year. Until then it feels like living in limbo land but its our choice and one not every one can make so I am trying to be as positive as possible.
Good luck with selling Pam.
I have missed a few posts and dont think I will get to catch up. must check out the chat thing.
Copper

Chat is fun - a bit stressful for me as I am a slow typer. If you get 4 or more people in chat it can get quite funny (in a nice way).
I am in a right strop with work at the mo. Today was worse than yesterday :crying:
I had to phone my boss and tell him that I am not happy - this had some effect as he phoned me later (after I should have left) to tell me he had an action plan to improve things. I am being kind (aka stupid) and helping out on a different site and I am being taken advantage by a number of staff. Today I ventured into the store full of chemicals and within 5 minutes was coughing and spluttering. There is a major problem which was identified in June and nothing has happened. It took most of the morning to recover so I was thrilled when somebody then asked if I could clean the huge roller white board!!!! This is not a technician's job. I don't know how I managed the polite reply which needless to say contained the word NO.
Tomorrow I will be working at my usual site where it should be quiet - so a restful time before I am back at the awful place on Thursday :(
Looking on the bright side, as I am now racking up the overtime I will decide when to take my TOIL and I feel a whole week off at the end of term would be excellent. We should be fully staffed for January which means I can stay at my usual site where things are soooo much better.
quiet day for me yesterday. was feeling sorry for myself so went for a walk in some gardens nearby, harold hillier near romsey, lovely and sunny so well worth it. may put a couple of photos on gallery later when have chance.
nothing much this morning then daughter this afternoon after school:D
got a letter to say sorry from bernard matthews yesterday about the honey roast chicken...and because i'd complained they didn't let anyone know a cheque for £10! so pays to complain sometimes. so what to do with my riches?
My bubble has burst! The house we wanted has been snatched up by cash buyers before we even had chance to get ours on the market and 4 bedroom houses under £200,000 are hard to come by in our town. Now isn't an ideal time for us to move so we will hang fire and wait until after christmas before we try to sell. Hubby is gutted but I'm ok about it - I just don't know if we'll find another 4bed detached for that sort of money (it needed an awful lot doing to it).
Copper the job problems sound terrible, I hope your boss's action plan actually helps. The store room sounds like a health and safety hazard which you'd be better off staying away from. I hope things get better. Only 6/7 weeks left of term now before Christmas so not too much left to endure. (Must start my christmas shopping!)
Matt, good result with Bernard Matthews. I used to enjoy writing complaint letters and reaping the rewards. I've still got one to do to Yorkshire Water now that they have finished their work here (still left noisy plates in the road though). Their customer charter says that I am due £10 but I think I can probably hope for a bit more.
Pam, thats a shame, hopefully something else will come up in time though.
Copper, hope things get better at work soon, that's really unfair/ dangerous of them to expect you to work in there.
Have done part of my Christmas shopping, was in Borders when they were doing 20% of for students so took advantage to buy some presents!!
Complaining does sometimes get good things :) Free meal for about 8 of us, was the best I ever managed!! Pam, I think you should get more than that as well.
Going to have a lazy morning I think until my lecture at 11 and then do some work in the afternoon. I didn't feel tired during the day yesterday, so was quite happy, until it got to about 7 and it suddenly hit  so have had a nice 10 hours sleep to make up for it!!

Meant to be spending the day catching up on all those little bits of paperwork and course work I need to do but here I am on dairyfree procrastinating.
Copper those chemicals are a worry. I have considered the option of doing a technicians job at a school before but have decided against applying because of my high sensitivity. Sounds like you will get them in line and have a better time soon.
I went to the hillier gardens Matt - they were great. Lovely planting of rubus and ophiopogon comes to mind as we went in the winter.

Pam - sorry to hear about the house. House moving is such a stressful thing.
Claire - sounds like you are improving to me. No rushing around tho to celebrate :)
Matt - well done for complaining - blow the money on something nice - book?, CD?. something for the garden perhaps?
Well I am off to the bad place tomorrow. I think that we will have to put our foot down and refuse to go in the nasty dangerous chemical store. I have been told that my boss did venture into the place yesterday and identified that something is leaking in the really nasties cupboard. The something is a respiratory irritant - proves I wasn't making it up. Now did anybody phone and ask if I was ok? No of course not. I did speak to the other technician and he was not well first thing - chemicals are a factor.
On the bright side I am going to Hobbycraft with a friend on Sunday. We will have to try hard not to spend too much money :lol2:
Copper, thats what I hoped, but today has left me unsure- I feel dreadful at the moment. Have had quite a bad afternoon :( Hmph think yesterday was good because I had a lot of time between my appointments. Have just burnt my thumb on the grill pan as well now, and that hurts :(:( Think I'll have a bath might help me rest up a bit more....
I hope things go well tomorrow for you Copper. Don't go in the cupboard, its your health, just tell them no.
At home we have a cheaper version of Hobbycraft called Hobbicraft, which has got nice little cross-stitches for 99p, so mums going to go get me some. Need to do something fun whilst I'm banned from exericse :( Got any plans for what you want to buy Copper??
linny
02-11-2005, 07:44 PM
They've just extended our local Hobbycraft. :) I could spends £100s in there! I'm stitching Christmas cards at the moment and slowly trying to finish a Winnie the Pooh and friends snowman picture I got free.
I've not done much today as I'm now suffering for going out on Saturday. My knees, spine and hands are really painful. The rainy weather doesn't help. I've struggled through some ironing today and dropped about everything I've tried to pick up!
cnc you'll start on the small ones and will soon be addicted I bet! You could try making some Christmas cards.
Aww I hope you feel better soon Linny.
The avatar is rather interesting, should I know who that is??!
I used to do a fair amount of Cross stitch when I was a kid, but recently I've been so busy with sport I've not had much time :)
Mums going to get me some cards for the ones I've got so that I can at least have a use for the sewing.
sorry to hear the news pam, look at tit that it wasn't meant to happen. something better will come along.:)
copper put it in writing. say you feel that it is a health hazard in the cupboard and list why. then watch it improve. they daren't risk it once they have it in writing as you'd be able to sue them to hell and back if you then fell ill.
good luck with the complaint pam contest to see who can get the best compensation.:lol2:
hiliers not too brilliant, autumn colours rather lacking. but a nice walk in the sunshine. made my mood improve atleast.
did it rain yesterday or what? half the atlantic through a seive above my head! thank goodness i was in the car.
Copper, it sounds like the firebrigade or some specialists are going to need to be brought in to clear the chemical spillage up. If they don't take your complaint seriously you should call in the health and safety executive before someone really suffers. (Are you in a union?)
Linny, you need a holiday to somewhere nice and warm. I hope you feel better today.
Claire, it must be really frustrating not to be making as much progress as you would like. I hope today is a good day.
The house - big disappointment. We have decided to do a few odd jobs here and get ours on the market at a higher price and see what happens. If and when we sell we will be in a better position to buy another. We are now thinking about looking for one that we can add value to (perhaps 3 bed semi) so that we can sell again at a profit to get the house that we really want (4 bed detached). Then again, maybe I'll win the lottery on saturday (pah! some chance).
Has finally stopped raining here. Has been none stop since about 5pm until about 5 minutes ago!! Am amazed my balcony hasn't flooded!
Copper, stand your ground and make them do something about it.
Pam, I hope you get the house sorted out eventually. Good luck :)
Didn't sleep well last night, but am being positive and hoping today will go ok. Pam, unfortunatly the progress I would really like to make, would to be back at rowing last week, but thats not going to happen *stomps feet* :( Ah well, suppose I'll just have to let my body do as it wishes :)
linny
03-11-2005, 01:20 PM
Thanks folks! Feel marginly better today. My kness are hurting though:( .
My avatar - it's my husband 10 years ago!!!!!!!!! No of course it isn't - it's a young Enrique Iglesias. I've quite a few pictures of him and this is one of my faves. I love his music too.;)
Pam, we keep thinking about moving, but stairs are my problem and bungalows are really expensive here. A 3 bed semi in a normal sort of estate is £220,000 in Dartford! The prices seemed to jump up when dear old Bluewater was built. I suppose Bluewater has made the traffic jams worse - what more could we want!!!!

I did not go into the nasty cupboard/store today. I am at my usual place of work tomorrow (Bournemouth) for a respite. My boss has invited certain key people to look at our store on Monday. Something has to be done and very very soon.
I have not been able to fill in an incident report form as the few we had heave vanished. The H&S manager does not like to give many out - so I am told. I think this gives some idea of how important H&S is at the place.
I have just had my Sunday trip out changed to Saturday. I have plans to buy some card and maybe some paper. I am just starting a new hobby - card making. I have made a start with my Seasons Greetings cards which means that everybody should receive a hand made card this year :)
Pam I hope that you have been watching Sarah Beany for tips on property development :)
Claire - I guess you will have up and down days. Cross stitching sounds good to me. I actually spent some time cross stitching last night - very therapeutic.
Linny - I hope your knees stop hurting soon. Sadly we are in for more wet weather. It could be worse at least it is still warmish.
At least something is been done about the situation Copper. Probably not enough, and definatly not soon enough, but thats always the way.
Linny, hope you feel better soon.
Am hopefully receiving another cross-stitch soon, Mum is posting them out to me :) Keep me entertained and out of mischief (also known as away from exercise).
Am trying to sort out train tickets for New Year it seems so strange to be buying tickets for 2006....Is quite complicated as Christmas is never spent at home, and I want to spend New Years away as well, so trying to sort out travel arrangements is interesting to say the least. I also know its only November, but I can get advance tickets which are a lot cheaper if I book soon :)
Copper
03-11-2005, 07:34 PM
Where are you going for New Year or is it a secret?
I'm off to Ians. My Christmas break looks like it could be quite busy with travelling. Am hopefully joining him to go to his Dads just before Christmas (can't go any earlier, as I'm supposed to be getting a job- yes I know I'm meant to be resting), and then I'm going away for Christmas with my family, and then travelling across from there to his for New Years. Could be a busy time. Must book a train ticket to get home!!
like i said copper a couple of letters to get it in writing. then if they give you a form... otherwise they'll only claim that they knew nothing when something goes wrong.
good luck with the home improvement pam. sarah beeny seems to deal with complete idiots but then it wouldn't be good tv if they agreed and made a huge profit would it? get the idiots on who want to spend £5000 on a toilet because it looks nice:o
linny i thought that was a piccy of me!!! damn i need to visit the opticians soon.
claire you are being well organised. mind you already know what i'm doing..... cue violins.... i'll be sat here on own most of xmas:( and fast asleep for new years-_-
:violin:just for you Matt!!
I've only ever had one Christmas at home- and that I think was only due to the fact I was a grand total of 22 days old at the time :)
Got a fairly busy day today. Have been good and done some work before breakfast. I wanted to hand it into today- so am going to cyle that across the city shortly. Then I'm having the rest of the morning/ afternoon off :) Have got a lecture at 2, so not that much time off really, but I think it will be sensible.
Got my train ticket booked to come home- is cheaper than driving. Just need to get there now :)

We're off to a firework display tonight. It's at my nephew's Sea Scouts group and is normally a good 'do'. I'll have to grin and bear the painful knees and back - have to do it for Megan! ;)
Sadly it looks like it will be wet here tomorrow when most of the displays are on. We're off to the Orchard Theatre to see 'Strictly Ballroom Dancing' show tomorrow. It's this year's Birthday treat and Megan can come this time.:)

Had a good day today, my husband took a day off today so we took the dog for a stroll and had a pub lunch.
Hoping to go to the fireworks tomorrow.
Finding it hard to decide what to do this christmas as there is a 50/50 chance we will be in the new place which would be a pretty excellent xmas present. But if we are not I dont want to spend it in the rented place and the old house doesnt have enough furniture. Thinking of booking somewhere nice for xmas lunch must organise myself.
We always have to do a lot of travelling even on the years we spend at home as in laws live in Devon and parent live north of cambridge.
Wont be getting big presents for people this year either even the kids but I enjoy xmas shopping and getting nice things that cost less can be a good challenge.
a well thought out gift is often better as people value the time it took you to find it, doesn't work with kids though!!
get out there and book a table, not many places do xmas lunch and they will book up quick.
trip to exeter today, so going to be rather tired with capital k later. two hours driving each way!!! but worth it to see friends....
later
We stay at home at Christmas - who'd want the 5 of us descending on them? We have our Christmas dinner on Christmas eve now (started that a couple of years ago) and then there's no stress on the big day, the kids can play and eat sweets with no worries. My mum usually visits on Christmas day and we go to my sister-in-law's house on Boxing Day but that's it, we don't do anything special.
Christmas/ Boxing Day is the only time that you can guarantee Mum and her Dad, brother and sisters will actually see each other all year. They are all spread out across the country, so we make the effort to all get together.
Does involve some of us sleeping in hotels, as there are normally about 8 for Christmas dinner, and 12+ for Boxing Day meals, and theres not enough room for 8 adults in a 3 bed house really!
Am going to have a morning off work, had a terrible day yesterday- long story, am not amused....
Ah well, suppose I should consider actually doing something with my day now!

Claire - what happened? Or is it worth forgetting as fast as possible?
I've managed to sort Xmas for now - one year with my parents, the next year my husband's parents, and so on. The other set get us on Boxing Day or Xmas Eve. And since they're both in London, its relatively civilised. Though last year we did have a bit of a disaster, as we drove home from holiday on Xmas Day (expecting to cook Xmas dinner for one set of parents) to find we had a power cut and a broken boiler. We gave up!
I went to the Clapham Common fireworks last night - most spectacular. They have fireworks that actually wriggle around in the sky after they've burst, which was new to me.

I'll be spending Xmas in sunny Bedfordshire (specifically Biggleswade) with Matt and his mum. Matt will be henpecked and probably sulk, as his mother and I get on like a house on fire...
We're going to take down some goodies from the local Farmers' Market for the celebrations - organic beef, decent sausages and smoked salmon. Matt says his mum can't cook so he wants to be prepared! ;)
I'm quite looking forward to it, but can't think that far ahead at the moment as there's so much going on!
Gill x
what with one thing and another can't say i'm really looking forward to it. xmas that is. but will make the best of it that i can. prob end up at the parents then back home to go online maybe!! depends when i get the daughter...:)
nice trip to exeter yesterday. tiring though as lots of driving. the rain on way back in the darkness didn't help. i had to slow down to almost 70 on the fastest bits!!!
day of chores today i think, helped by the fact that the weather's horrid.
Hi Matt,
How did the chores go? I know the trip to Exeter went as well as expected.
Kind regards,
Lan
Why was yesterday so bad Claire? I hope you didn't overdo it.
I think we have decided that we won't put the house up for sale until after christmas (unless anything special comes up for sale) so we can relax a bit now. We have a few jobs to do before then.
We watched the local firework display last night from across the road - away from the mud and the crowds, then we had a drive round to see a few more fireworks.
That stupid utilities company that have been causing us so many problems recently have been at it again - they turned up at 7.30 to start burning white lines outside our house - we are going to be really popular with the neighbours now! Something else to put in today's letter of complaint.
The weather is miserable here today so I really can't be bothered going out anywhere. Never mind, I've got a mountain of ironing to keep me occupied.
Long story, may result in me ranting, (my mood still hasn't lifted), so will refrain from subjecting you all to my foul mood at the moment.
Ended up going to see fireworks last night. I looked something similar to this:crying::cry::sad:. To say I don't like fireworks is an understatement. I however decided that sitting in my room in a bad mood was going to be even worse for me than the torture that is fireworks- at least I was distracted!!
Pam, am glad you're complaining, its so inconsiderate to do that kind of thing.
Weather here is also appalling, but we're meant to be having a barbeque this evening. (left overs from last time) think the plan may end up changing.
Presentation to write on flood frequency analysis this morning, and then may have the afternoon off.
well have moved some stuff in the front room, wasn't happy how they were. intermittent rain/drizzle here. popped down the road to be moaned at by mother who promptly got a flea in here ear for her troubles. not in the mood.
here i am expecting to see atleast someone in thechat room and no show so far. u2 on the stereo.
stargate and enterprise on later...what a kid i am.:)
linny
06-11-2005, 05:14 PM
I love Stragate and Enterprise!!! Only because my hubby stands and does the ironing whilst watching them!;) Pain prevents me ironing for more than about 10 mins, so by the weekend there is normally quite a backlog.
Megan and I have made some dairy free muffins and tomorrow I'll make my dairy free Birthday cake. If people don't like dairy free things then I've decided they'll have to go without!!:p Like I normally do at their Birthday get-togethers!!!! Megan and hubby think that some of the dairy free stuff tastes great.
Went to see Strictly Ballroom Dancing at our local theatre yesterday, it was Brilliant! The dancers were really young, the champions 16 and 18! Jane Mcdonald was good too. Jodie from Stricly Dance Fever was in it too.

Sounds like a good night Linny. I think some people are incredibly fussy about their food - my kids love all my dairy/gluten free cooking and I used to make flapjacks before I gave up on the oats which everyone loved.
We went to the Linfield fireworks last night - it was an impressive event. Despite the huge crowds it all ran on time with a procession then a bonfire then fireworks. We had a good night but the youngest got a bit tired, although he is learning to cope with it better.
Weather here is miserable. Took the eldest for a karate test which he passed and did a bit of college work.
Claire I hope things improve for you.
Working tomorrow digging and mulching so I hope this rain stops otherwise I will be very muddy indeed.

I have struggled on with chores today. I am very tired as I have not been sleeping well. I must try to stop getting up tight about somebody at work who is getting on my nerves.
We have the excitement of the store/cupboard meeting tomorrow. I can't see me getting home until after 3pm and I should finish at 12.15pm.
I did not spend too much in Hobbycraft. They have extended the store but they did not appear to have much more in the way of stock. They did not have everything I wanted so I have shopped online today.
Ended up going to see fireworks last night. I looked something similar to this:crying::cry::sad:. To say I don't like fireworks is an understatement.
Sounds like it could be a past-life issue. In the book 'Children's Past Lives' by Carol Bowman (www.carolbowman.com (http://www.carolbowman.com/)), her son had an uncontrollable fear of the sound of fireworks and loud noises. He underwent a past-life regression and discovered that his fear stemmed from a previous life when he was injured in battle, with the sound of cannon fire going on around him. Following the regression he no longer had a fear of loud noises.
well stargate is nice no brainer tv for a sunday afternoon.:D
good luck wit the meeting copper, make sure they make things better.
hopefully that will be the end of most of the fireworks now. except for the odd idiot buying them cheap and having a display next weekend no doubt:angry:
got to stay in for a mystery package today. they tried to deliver on saturday while i was out. no idea what it is. ooh excitment. like christmas....easily entertained aren't i?:lol2:
Lucky you Matt, I hope it is something nice.
Linny, Happy Birthday for tomorrow, I hope you have a lovely day. (It is tomorrow isn't it?)
Copper, I was up most of the night too. Hubby put a new door on the bathroom yesterday and the smell of undercoat is really strong upstairs, it kept me awake.

I watch stargate occasionally on sky but i don't watch it on a regular basis. I bought Firefly on DVD a few weeks back and that is my favorite sci-fi series at the moment. Shame they cancelled it.

Welcome back Ellsie.
Happy Birthday Pen
Thanks for all your birthday wishes. Happy birthday Linny for tomorrow.
Welcome back Ellsie. Isn't Canada a wonderful place?
I got to work today at 8 am and discovered I had left my packed lunch (corn cakes, tasty goat cheddar, sugar-free raspberry jam, banana, and some stewed apple) on the subway!! During my break I rushed to the nearest supermarket and bought the best lunch substitute I could find, but cheap rice cakes and insipid soft goat cheese really didn't do it for me. The banana was good though. Better make up for it at dinner tonight.
The telemarketing job I am on at the moment is working out well and I am really enjoying it--maybe only another 5 or 6 days' work left on that assignment (perhaps I am working too quickly as the total thing was supposed to take 15 days, and I have only done 3 so far). There will no doubt be more assignments after that though.
happy belated birthday pen. and happy birthday today? linny. 21 again i assume!
steve never heard of that series. sky one? i don't let myself watch enough tv to make it worthwhile to pay for tv. too easy to spend the day watching tv.
well the bloody parcel didn't turn up as they don't deliver on mondays...so their website let's you book a monday delivery for what reason? needless to say letter of cmplaint on it's way. not a happy chappy after spending the sunniest day for a little while indoors!

Thanks folks! Has life begun - well!! Megan came home from school on Monday with a grazed knee and HUGE ankle. :crying: Everyone at school had ignored the poor child bar her friend who helped her hobble to the canteen. She did it at luchtime, no note in her contact book either evidently the dinner lady washed the graze on her hand. Letter now gone to Headmistress. Hubby saw it and said A & E. Turns out she has damaged soft tissue around her ankle bone and is now on crutches!!!!
So, my Birthday yesterday!! UM!! We went up to Bluewater and managed to hire a wheelchair for Meg and had a great time. Went to see Nanny McPhee which was really funny. Had lunch out and had loads of visitors when I got home. Got loads of cards and pressies too. Dairy free cake and muffins went down a treat.
Feeling about 50 today!!!!!

On the good side...HAPPY BIRTHDAY Pen and Linny. Hope the year to come is the best you've had so far.
On the bad side...not sure why I'm posting it here except this is possibly the only place I talk about the pancreas thing - but I'm in a lot of pain these last few days and I'm feeling anxious about it. I'm having tests later this month (so long as the doctor can push the hospital into doing something on time!) to check I don't have pancreatic cysts or cancer caused by the pancreatitis. I'm not so worried about that at the moment, but I'm concerned that I'm still in pain after a month. Had to come home from work early today and go to bed, I was so uncomfortable. It's pretty much constant now even if I cut the fat RIGHT down (and obviously I'm avoiding dairy and alcohol altogether), and I'm worried that it'll turn out to be a chronic condition, which doesn't bode well for the future. :(
Sorry for venting. I don't usually worry about health stuff at all (I figure that if this didn't kill me already, I'm fairly well indestructible :p ), but for some reason it's just worn me out tonight. I'll probably be a lot brighter tomorrow.
I'm going to follow (cnc) Claire's lead and ask for donations of good news to stop me being so pathetic....
Copper
09-11-2005, 10:58 PM
When I am tired |I seem to have a lower pain threshold.
I am not sure that I have any good news as I am worn down by trying to do the job of one and a half technicians in half a technician's job. This is further complicated by also working on two sites. The work load is so silly that I have a weeks worth of overtime to take off - err when? I will be demanding that I get paid overtime from now on otherwise there will be no more overtime. I am sick of being used - this is not the first time.
Oh yes there is good news - work have agreed to put a bigger fan in the grim store. They are not planning to give us an outside store for the smelly flammable chemicals though so I am not convinced that we will be much better off. They are interviewing for a new technician next week.
get the health and safety people in copper.
sorry to hear the news kamagrian. stick with it and try to not imagine the worst
Hope you start to feel better soon Kamagrian - when do you see the hospital again?
Copper, they really haven't made much progress with the store, I thought they were supposed to be getting someone in to sort it out. Are you in a union? Somebody needs to make them take notice.
Copper
10-11-2005, 02:21 PM
We are still waiting for the new fan in the store room :( no surprise really. Today the other technician told me he was ill again after going in the room yesterday. We both filled in some incident report forms and left them on our line managers desks. His manager came in later and saw them and asked what they were all about. The upshot of all this was the manager did not want anymore of these forms, so he has banned his technician from the store. I find this slightly amusing as I am sure he has not thought about the consequences - that is he will not be able to do any practicals that need chemicals.
I spent over 15 minutes trying to get hold of my line manager to tell him we had a few problems. In the end I got fed up and spoke to the manager above my line manager. The bottom line is I am not doing any more overtime unless it is paid. I feel that I should not be putting a foot inside that store until we have a proper working fan.
I am in a union - Unison, they are worse than uselss so there is no point in contacting them.

10-11-2005, 06:54 PM
sorry to hear the news kamagrian. stick with it and try to not imagine the worstIt's not news - apparently the tests for abcesses/cysts/signs of cancer are fairly standard after a nasty pancreatitis thingy, and are just done because I have a raised danger of all three. But thanks for the thoughts. :)
I'm next booked into the hospital on 12th December (I think, don't have my diary on me!), but the doc said I'll have to go back before then as they should've booked me in for the above tests. And they haven't. Bad hospital.
Sorry for venting...I've calmed down a lot now. I think it WAS partly because I was over tired, though I'm still in pain today. I got loads done at work today though, so I'm feeling good about that. Will just tell the doctor my concerns about the pain tomorrow and see what happens.
I agree about the Health and Safety people, Copper - sounds like your employers are being a just a tad unreasonable. Is someone else there in a different union that might be a bit more help?
Copper

Gill - I am glad that you are feeling better today.
The health & safety manager at work will receive a few incident forms tomorrow. These will show him that we have been ill as a result of going in the store. We will see what he does but I won't be holding my breath.
If my line manager doesn't contact me tomorrow I will see him Monday afternoon and I will give him chapter and verse.
copper make sure you log whenever you have felt/been ill as a result and see that your doctor knows aswell. i'm not saying you have to take it as far as suing them but it will be better in the long run to have it all written down.
kamagrian lets hope the hospital thing is all sorted in time to be able to celebrate the festive season properly. if not tell them to stick the tests etc until january at the end of the day another couple of weeks isn't going to matter one way or the other.
my doctor wants me to do limited exercise at the local gym and has prescribed it for me! if only other people didn't go there and use the equipment! or if only it didn't take me longer to get changed than it takes me to get tired out using the equipement! i shall have to think long and hard.

Gill - Take good care of yourself. Get some rest and pampering at the weekend and hopefully the pain will settle. Letting off some steam on this site seems a good idea. Pain can be overwhelming sometimes and it adds to the tiredness.
Copper - Your situation is stressful I hope you get it sorted.
Cnc - are you feeling any better?
Gill- rest and look after yourself.
Copper, I hope things get sorted for you soon.
I'm rather :( , at the moment- so have taken myself out of Cambridge for the weekend, and am hoping htat will do the trick., Although the travelling seems to have knocked me....
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

11-11-2005, 05:26 PM
Oh dear Claire what can I say. Feeling :( is not good. You need a weekend of pampering.
Gill - I hope the tests show that things are improving and or are ok.
Matt - I am sure that if you can make the effort to get to the gym it will help in the long term. I have a friend who got very depressed and nobody could help her. Eventually her GP prescribed some gym sessions and although she was reluctant to go out and mingle with people, she did go and they certainly worked for her. You can tell yourself that after using the equipment or whatever that you can have a shower afterwards. I am told that if you exercise you get more energy. I find this hard to imagine as at the moment I am very tired and there is no way I could drag myself anywhere to do sport or gym. Hey you might meet a nice young lady at the gym :)
Me - well incident paperwork is in the system. Yesterday the other tech was banned form entering the store by his line manager. I spoke to my line manager today (phone) and I asked point blank was he going to ban me too - he did not, so I told him that I was banning myself. That will put a spanner in the works but I don't care. He also told me that some electricians had been to the store and made comments about how difficult it would be to instal a new fan - they had nothing positive to say apparently and then they vanished. That sounds about par for the course in our college. I could not get hold of my line manager (how I hate that expression) yesterday so I went to the manager above him and gave an ultimatum - no pay no overtime. I had a note this morning telling me that I can claim my overtime from now - result :D

Hi everyone,
Well, blood tests today show that my pancreas and liver function are holding up OK, but the doctor thinks the pain may be caused by a small stone blocking the ducts in my pancreas - apparently fairly common in cases like mine. I'm on orders to rest up over the weekend, call emergency services if I develop any one of a few nasty symptoms he gave me, and he's going to call me on Monday lunchtime anyway. If he's right, it will either settle on its own or cause some pretty nasty effects. He's also going to call the hospital and 'put a bomb under them' (his exact words!) to get them to rush me in asap for the cyst etc. tests. After that we'll know a bit more.
Thanks for the support, it's been really appreciated.
Claire - hope you get a decently relaxing and cheering weekend. Let me know all the details.
Copper - sounds like your manager isn't managing. That's from one manager to another. Hope things get sorted there soon.
Matt - if you DO go, do we get pictures of you in your exercise gear? ;)

Oooo Matt in lycra what a thought :) He is very dishy in uniform but lycra? We will have to wait and see :D
i refer you to my other comments especially the one saying the uniform photos now several years out of date. since then have lost weight. think escapee from belsen. i don't like what i look like for real reasons not because i'm imagining it. me in lycra trust me you would not like that...:(
meet a nice young lady? yeah and scare her off:o
lets all try and have a good weekend as we all see to have a few bads days recently. all choose a nice thing to do and just enjoy it.
for me? a day spent with my daughter. what better day could i ever ask for?:) :D
I'm off to the Green Health Shop today in Cleckheaton to see if I can order some Booja Booja and thick cream for Christmas (I'll ask her to get some extra for you Claire). Hubby is on a course today so I'm at home with the 3 little monsters. If it stays fine for long enough we'll clean the guinea pig hutch out but that's as exciting as it gets.
Well, I've got to go to Sainsburys (never fun, and worse since they're re-doing the store at the moment) but balancing that I do also get to go to the good health food shop in Tooting and buy lots of yummy ice-cream.
But first I need to help my parents pack what looks like a roomful of stuff into their car... I think it may take a while.
Nic
Having eventually rolled out of bed- am trying to spend the weekend having a normal student life.... We are going to make brunch (friends keep force feeding me) then off into Birmingham, then maybe some ice skating (which I want to join in with, but not sure) then dinner, cinema and casino.
Before anyone comments I know that seems a lot for me to do, but as I've already said I'm attempting to have a 'normal' day for once. I don't care if I end up tired, I want to have a day of enjoyment- so I am.
Hope you all have fun.

I'm on rest orders so I'm probably going to relax, catch up on my reading and maybe see if there's anything worth watching on TV (yeah, right) or watch a DVD. So...all sedentary!
I'm cooking chicken cacciatore tonight though, and a couple of friends are coming around to play board games tomorrow lunchtime, so that's all lovely.

I need to finish my xmas cross stitch in a limited time!
Well instead of ice skating we decided that we would go on an aerial assault course- good fun, but probably not the best thing for me to have done, I've just about stopped shaking!!;)
(Please don't lecture me- I knew the risk and am willing to suffer the consequences tomorrow!!)
I also decided to buy myself a present and have a new bear, from the Bear Factory, hes lovely :)

The cacciatore was good according to Matt - he really enjoyed it and ate two large portions! Managed to make it with zero added fat, so I'm quite pleased with myself. :D
As it happens, Settlers of Catan is the exact game we're playing tomorrow! I've been addicted to it for years, and we have both the basic set and the 5-6 player expansion pack. We also have Illuminati, Dungeon Twister, Carcassonne, Once Upon A Time, Lord of the Rings and various more traditional ones such as Monopoly (though ours is the 'here and now' edition) and Scrabble. Settlers is probably the one that comes out more often at the moment as it's easy for new players to pick up and goes down well with nibbles and background music.
Completed my first full week working 37.5 hours since the end of 2002--and am actually enjoying the telemarketing job. It probably has more to do with the fact that I am working with a nice group of people than the work itself, as it can get a little tedious making over 200 calls a day saying the same thing over and over. There are four of us working together sitting around a dining room sized table all talking at the same time, and it is surprising how quickly we all learnt to cut out everyone else's noise. However, the woman who sits directly opposite me had a cold on Monday, and guess who has it now! But I must say that using three drops of oregano oil (which has anti-viral properties) twice a day, and several doses of vitamin C thoughout the day since then, has really helped to make my cold really mild. I was dreading getting a cold ever since I came off my steroid inhalers back in February, as I was always prone to getting chest infections/asthma when I got a cold. I actually feel fine and even went for a 3-mile walk this afternoon (through the park and down to our Great Lake, and fed lots of squirrels en-route). Photo attached (one I took a couple of years ago) is of one of the friendly greys, but we have lots of black and brown ones too.

It's a little-known but very powerful remedy for helping resist or reduce the severity of colds, other viral and bacterial infections. :)

Kamagrian, I am always happy to learn about natural methods of healing/prevention of illness. No, I hadn't heard of ravensara aromatica, but have just found some info on the web. I take it that this oil is for external use only (applied to the skin or by inhalation). I must admit that my knowledge of aromatherapy is extremely limited, although I have used lavendar oil before. Oregano oil can be used topically for skin infections etc, and can be taken internally as an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-parasitic. I have been taking it internally (3 drops under the tongue and swished down with lots of water) this week and it certainly seems to be doing the trick.

So many posts to catch up on. Glad you have all given yourselves a bit of good time.
Claire my dad wanted me to do an aerial asault course with him in Thetford (we used to go climbing together when I was little) but I chickened out.
I have had an OK weekend with a lovely walk in the woods around Nymans gardens today with the family and the dog (I'll put a photo of her in the gallery). Also made myself dairy/gluten/soya/salicylate free orange cake and its lovely. Played basketball with my eldest yesterday, not great for the asthma but it was good fun. He won of course!!
My asthma (least I hope its just that not the eosinophilia again) is bad but I'm not going to worry about it too much as I have started the oral steroids and have no physical work until Friday. Its a bit of a pain because it might stop me having allergy tests when I go to Guy's on Thursday - but I shall just have to go back for them. They must have systems for dealing with that and my appointment is 3.20pm anyway so I may have had to go back even without this problem.
Ellsie and gill tell me more about this board game would my kids like it? We are currently into Brighton and Hove monopoly.

Rebecca C - Settlers of Catan is excellent fun and fairly easy to pick up, though whether it would be suitable for your children would probably depend on their age. It's a settlement and development game where you collect resources (wheat, wool, brick etc) and use them to create e.g. roads, settlements, cities. Personally I love it, and so does everyone I've introduced to it, so it's recommended.
You can Google for more info on it - I got my copy from www.gameslore.co.uk (http://www.gameslore.co.uk) and there's lots of information about it there. They also did a special deal (they might still be doing it) where you save money if you buy the basic set and the 5-6 player expansion set at the same time.
On a totally unconnected subject, but referring to some previous threads...

It's just arrived by post for me some time later, hence my general Gromit-mug happiness. And yes, it's the one with the heat-up nose. Cute, aren't they? :lol2:

{Pam stamps feet} I want a Gromit mug! There are none to be found around here. I don't think there are likely to be any more coming out now either since the film has been and the novelty has worn off.

Matt really stop being so wimpy. I had my flu jab today after two nurses had a discussion about my egg intolerance. It was left up to me to decide so I just said yes do it. My arm hurts a little already. I had to spend about 20 minutes after the jab sitting in sight of both nurses so they could keep an eye on me. I was fine so I was then allowed out :)
There has been a very serious fire in Poole which has burnt out some major power lines. I was at the Poole site today and the power went off and was then restored 20 minutes later. The Bournemouth site lost power and still has no power. A large part of Bournemouth is in the dark. The staff at Bournemouth were sent home at 11am. We have just found out that the power went off at the Poole site at 1pm (15 minutes after I left). Knowing the college it no doubt took an hour to tell the staff to go home.
Meanwhile we have heard scratching noises in the lounge ceiling. We hunted high and low for signs of a mouse. In the night we heard more noises in the loft directly above our heads! We have an extra four legged friend in the house. I have set the humane traps to catch it. Watch this space ....

Hi copper
It could be squirrels. We heard scratching in the loft and thought it was proably birds. But when we went to get the christmas decorations. I found my leftover Wrapping paper in shreds. Oh well at least the squirrels had a well decorated nest for christmas. I'll have to watch out for my fairy lights this year!!!:lol2:

I am hoping that it is just a mouse. I am amazed that a mouse can find its way into the loft. I can't see a hole large enough for a squirrel. We have had a mouse before and this gave the cat lots of exercise but sadly he did not catch it.
I was a bit worried last night wondering just what the rodent was chewing. The last one ate plastic carrier bags!!!! I have looked round the loft (which is very full) and could not see any sign of roden nibbling or calling cards (poo to most of us)
Something attacked all of our Christmas decorations last year. Skiing and musical penguin, alas is no more! We also managed to get birds in the roof as next door had holes in the roof....
Have had an utterly useless day. Have done nothing productive apart from look for inspiration for my dissertation....Things are not going my way as well at the moment.
Weekend has finally caught up on me and had a nice long sleep. Am being made to go out to formal hall tonight, I don't really want to go, but promised a friend I would.
I feel I should end this with some good news.... Am hoping to go to Madagscar for my dissertation (sorry its about the happiest news I can find at the moment)
And I got to make the first post on page 100 :)

I had been wondering where you had got to. Madagascar sounds good. A little something for you to look forward to. Wouldn't you much rather freeze and go where penguins are?
I had been wondering where you had got to
Yes, I've been hiding a bit. Would like to play with the penguins, but Madagscar is cheaper/ easier to get to. May end up going somewhere totally different but at least I'm planning things. Have got a week long field trip to the Algarve in March as well- am determined to be well before that.
Right I'm off back into hiding I think....
and madagascar isn't great news???:D swop with you. would love to go and see all the lemurs. take lots of film in the camera or even better a digi and laptop so you can record them all.
hey i wanted to be a wimp. the mmr bit didn't hurt that much, was annoyed she buggered up the blood test.
copper hope things still ok with that jab.... any more probs with the power? they recon things will be getting back to normal today sometime. how did things go re that store? have the practicals been cancelled yet or is someone else getting the stuff out?
mice can get through the holes that you could put a pencil through. so pretty impossible to stop them getting in if they want to. hopefully the traps will work. if not then you may need to resort to poison. don't want them chewing power cables....
icing a xmas cake and making cookies for daughter to sell on friday today. if only could eat them....was thinking of making rice crispy and marshmallow cookies. crunchy and chewy:) well i'm not having to try them...:lol2:

Madagascar - wow sounds great, a friend of mine had a great time there.
Went to see Franz Ferdinand last night - really enjoyed it. Enjoyed looking around at all the great young people enjoying themselves, I really think todays teenagers are great people.
The only person who was pissed and behaving like an ass was middle aged - so no surprises there, he jumped from the balcony down to the standing area, pity he didnt break his leg!!!
Madagascar - wow sounds great, a friend of mine had a great time there. Nothing is definate, but thought I might as well start making plans, was to cheer me up as much as anything, will probably end up somewhere like the Yorkshire Dales!!

Am quite jealous really. I've only ever been to one concert, but to be fair it would probably be quite hard to beat- REM, supported by Feeder and Idlewild- 3 of my favourite groups (except I missed the supporting acts as I was elsewhere)
pity he didnt break his leg!!!

I did my dissertation at Wicken Fen, collecting pollen rain. It was a great experience working solo as my tutor was on sabbatical which meant I got less help than other people and eventually a lower degree but I acheived a lot and enjoyed it.
Wherever you do it I bet you will enjoy it but Madagascar would be really something.

I didn't sleep very well last night as my arm is a little swollen and quite painful :( I am ok apart form that so proves the egg problem is an intolerance and not an allergy.
No mice caught yet. I didn't hear any mice last night.
If staff want practicals at Poole they have to get the chemicals out of the store themselves. My boss is still thinking about what he could do as a practical on Monday as we have the added problem of a dying still. We have to use distilled water for the practicals and we have hardly any left.
I went into the office at the Bournemouth site today just to prove that I was in as the lecturers were on strike today. I found not one of my bosses there but all three (bit like buses :) ) Two of them are interviewing for the new technician tomorrow and seemed pleased that I would actually be on the Poole site tomorrow, so I would be able to see them. I was more concerned about how many people had to sign my overtime form - well you have to get your priorities right.
We were lucky and did not have a power cut at home. A friend about half a mile away had a power cut though. All of the traffic lights were back on this morning on my route, some were still out. Those that were still out are the ones installed on large roundabouts. Comments were made that the roundabouts were working better now that the lights were out. There was a huge outcry when Poole put the lights on the roundabouts a few years ago. I think that they had bought a job lot off the back of a lorry :)
But who is going to get post #1000?
Me again, it would seem!!
Rebecca, I've been to Wicken Fen- first year field trip, remember having a debate about whether a decomposed tree was still a tree or not?
Abandoned a human geography practical today, am only doing it because I wasn't well enough to go on the sedimentology field trip and am not sure I'll be well enough to go on the water resources field trip so resorted to doing survey design this term and multivariate research methods next term.... Why do I do such silly things?
Copper, hope things improve with the job soon :)
