Unfortunatly there's a limit to the amount of hassle I can put up with and its just been broken.
I can't take a rest as I've got impending deadlines i.e. tomorrow.

Oh well, that's life.

Oh Claire - try and hang on in there. Shut yourself away in your room and try and get the work done for the deadline tomorrow. Try and ignore the things that are getting to you right now. Easy to say I know.

If you are not here for a few days we will understand. Your uni work and health must come first. We will be worrying about you though :)

Claire with the best will in the world you can only do one thing at a time. You will get through this difficult time and things will be easier again. You have managed your situation with your head which is a huge acheivement given how ill you are.

paranoidangel
27-02-2006, 06:22 PM
Claire - there is something about uni that makes you want to quit pretty much continually from the middle of your second year until you leave. I know that me and just about everyone I know said the same thing, but I really missed it once I left (I still miss it).

goose
27-02-2006, 07:00 PM
yea, stick in there claire. you cant quit at your age, you have such a long way to go. i aggree with copper. get stuck in and finish your dead lines and stop fretting so much.;)

I got a lot off of my chest about the quite serious issue that's been going on at the moment, so am a little calmer about it. However, the anguish has absolutely exhausted me.

Well today is my birthday, and not only did i awake to a few cards, but to 4 inches of snow. great a blizzard day, have work in the morning, and the plan was to do a little girlie shopping by myself and to spoil myself, but in this weather, im gonna come home put the heating on and sit in fron of the dvd and tv remote all afternoon,

Yes, I've calmed down a lot, which is good seeing as I've got to fast tomorrow, so that's going to be hard enough without everything else that is going on!!
Goose I'll be around in the afternoon, if you fancy a wander on to chat.
Right better get some work done, presentation due tomorrow morning!!

Hope things are settling down a bit Claire - good luck!

Happy Birthday Goose - hope you have a good day. My daughter was over the moon this morning as it was snowing but unfortunately (for her!) it didn't settle. It's bloomin cold though.

I had a horrible day yesterday. The Bakewell tart went wrong, probably cos I used soya marg not butter as it stated. Mother-in-Law came to tell me that she's changed her will and is leaving all her jewellery (£2000 worth!) to her granddaughter (our daughter) "as with your arthritis in your fingers it's not worth leaving my rings to you". Oh I dislike her more every time I see her. I'm not interested in the value of the things, never have been and never will be. A £5 necklace means as much to me as a £500 one, as long as I like it. It's just the way she said it, I feel like I've been written off because of my illness.

We've decided we'd like to have a holiday - I wonder why! We're hoping to rent a cottage in Hampshire/Dorset in June sometime. Can anyone recommend an area that is nice. We've found a nice one in 'Chilworth' what's it like there?

Oh well the pancakes tonight might cheer me up - hope you all enjoy your dairy free pancake day!

Copper
28-02-2006, 01:29 PM
Claire - keep smiling even if through gritted teeth.

Linny - you have my sympathy as I have a mother in law like yours :(

Well it has been a lovely sunny morning so the room I work in was like a greenhouse - too hot! Now it is cloudy and I have to go and rescue my mother from Tesco very soon.

The silly cleaners at work thought it would be a good idea to unplug the fridge and fridge freezer last night. I got into work to find a pool of water on the floor. I was not very happy. I had got labels on the plugs which clearly read "Do not switch off or pull out the plugs" They also don't clean - just empty the bins. The college is having an economy drive so we have to save electricity, sadly some people don't understand that we can leave things plugged in but switched off at the wall and no electricity is used and things are safe. The kettle was unplugged too and the flex removed from the kettle. Oh dear what can I say except "scream"

cnc
28-02-2006, 02:37 PM
They also don't clean - just empty the bins....Oh dear what can I say except "scream"
I know that problem, except my cleaner only empties my bin once a week, and then wonders why its overflowing when she doesn't leave any bin bags!!
Does remind me that I should clear my desk so it can be cleaned!!

Linny hope you enjoy your pancakes and the holiday. You sound like you deserve them.
No pancakes for me, I've got a dinner and talk to attend instead, unfortunatly one of the people involved in nearly making me quite will also be there, sitting on the same table as myself, so that could be fun!!
Presentation is getting longer- may have reached about 4 minutes now if I'm really lucky!!

We've had intermittent snow.

Take care all

Our cleaner is a bit too enthusiastic with the furniture polish - she sprays a lot but doesn't do much of the whiole polishing thing. She has cut the hoovering down to twice a week now. She also sometimes cleans the phones - which involves spraying them a lot. So when you go to use the phone you get a wet ear and the horrible spray stuff down your face.

We also have a really dusty office - permanently, I mean. It makes me wonder what her house is like if she cleans that the same way.

Glad to hear you've had a good day Goose. My daughter wants some of your snow!

We've booked a cottage in Ower in Hampshire for a week in June. It's very near Paulton's Park where we took Meagn a few years ago. I like the sound of the 'jacuzzi bath'!! Hope it's a bit warmer by June, it's certainly something to look forward to.

The pancakes were lovely, I only managed 2 as I don't have much appetite lately.

Really chuffed this afternoon as Megan's Shakespeare project got in the top 3 in her class. She's got to present it to her year group (90 of them) tomorrow - she's only 9! I suppose it's best to start them early.

I like your avatar goose, really lovely picture. My new avatar is the magnet Megan painted and won a prize in the 'Persil paint a magnet competition'.

HEH Linny - well done Megan. I'll think of her doing her presentation. I've just started putting mine together for my course, using powerpoint for the first time, quite good fun actually.

Feeling perkier, although the eldest is still getting through flu he got his appetite back a bit today.

You must be fed up with your mother in law, it was pretty thoughtless of her. Mine gives beautiful things to my husbands sister and then she sells them when shes a bit short of money!! Tend to take the attitude that that is their problem not mine.

Steroids have made my face swell up but it has taken 8 days compared to the usual 2 before I had a reaction and a rarely need a double course like this.

before i forget re holiday cottage. chilworth ie north of southampton ok butyou can do far better. given the choice i'd aim for anywhere on the isle of purbeck from swanage to lulworth area. brilliant scenery, great walks nice beaches......depends what you want to do for the week really.

mother in laws....enough said. i've had two now and no rush to make it three. they've both been damn odd.

aberdeen sunny. what day last year was that then? only happens once a decade doesn't it!!!

we've had a couple of flurries of snow. meant to be a better chance today. time will tell. hope after 4 then i'm home happy with daughter. can snow as much as it wants then.

cleaners???? be gratefull time will be when you have to clean you're own place claire!!:lol2:

Should we club together and get you some snow shoes goose?

Just found out my sons' school is closed becuase the boiler is broken. This is a problem every winter, one year a couple of parents lost their jobs because of it.

It makes me so mad because the government want people to work but they cant even keep the schools open. Not to mention the fuss if you want to take a holiday in term time but our council cant even keep the schools open RANT RANT RANT.

Luckily I have dad here to help and I shall look after the girl I look after after school so her mum can get to work (as she has already already had our bugs anyway). Got an interview tomorrow so lets hope they get it working again today.

Hi all,

The snow up here is quite thick. Have had to take a day off work as unable to get in either way. The mountain I normally travel over is blocked and I can go past Steve's, but he had a few near misses.

Oh well, nice relaxing day I think. May go in later if the weather improves, but can't see it.

Good luck with the presentation Claire.

Good luck with the interview Rebecca. What job is the interview for?

Matt thanks for the info. We booked a cottage last night. Loads of them were already fully booked. We've booked a place in Ower, VERY near to Paulton's Park. We're hoping to visit the New Forest, Buckler's Hard and Portsmouth (so far!). Hubby is into boats and I've always wanted to see the Mary Rose and go on the Victory. What's Southampton like for a day trip?I'm really looking forward to it - got to wait 'til June though.

Had a sudden thought this morning!! Don't think I need worry though, Megan went in for the draw to get the Queen's Birthday Garden Party tickets which I think will clash with the holiday. I don't think she's got a chance of winning one though.

She went off to school very nervous this morning because of the dreaded presentation. We had to stop 2 minutes before we got out the door as she wanted to change into her 'lucky knickers'. :o Oh my goodness, just as well we live opposite the school!!

Hope you're not snowed in goose.

Sorry to hear you're snowed in Lan. Have the day off to celebrate St David's Day!!

We had a bit of a blizzard yesterday after 4pm. I was at my mother's at the time and once the sun came out again I drove home. More snow today which was fun. Not enough to settle but I hope the roads dry out otherwise driving to work could be interesting in the morning.

We had to stop 2 minutes before we got out the door as she wanted to change into her 'lucky knickers'.

Thats what I need. Its a job for a classroom assistant in a secondary including the geography department- so I'm hoping my degree might clinch it.

Obviously it would be a good job for me because its family friendly hours and at the same time I could use my brain a little bit and get pleasure from helping the students. So I would quite like it I think.

Husband is working at home tommorrow to keep an eye on the eldest and maybe the youngest if the boiler isnt fixed.

I hope the weather is better for everyone tomorrow, although it was lovely here today.

Good luck Claire - lucky knickers????

Hope you get the car sorted soon Goose- Oh that Taz, is making me feel funny!!

Good luck Claire - lucky knickers???? I must say that my immediate thought to this was the typical student response of, 'I'd be lucky to have clean knickers!!' Have you stressed your food problems?

If I had to go into hospital now I would have to take a food parcel :)

Matt, you love causing problems don't you!!
At least you have two kidneys, so removing one isn't too much of a problem.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Matt I hope you dont have to lose that kidney, it seems a high price to pay for taking some calcium tablets.

I am feeling rubbish today. I had a mild migraine this morning and was zonked out in bed. However I actually predicted that it would take me another week to get better and I should pace myself and allow this to happen. It was necessary to push things a bit last week and also I am probably on withdrawal from 10 days of steroids.

Mike took the kids out and they had a lovely time playing on the downs.

04-03-2006, 04:37 PM
Sorry to hear about your op Matt. Perhaps now's the time to think about taking up cross-stitch or trying to become champion in the arcade!!

We went to see my nephew (17) in 7 brides for 7 brothers last night. It was brilliant, we couldn't believe they were school kids. The kids had amazing voices, better than some of the professionals you see on tv. They were fantastic dancers too. It was at Dartford Grammar (boys) so they obviously shipped in the girls from their school across the road! Having spine problems today as had to sit on a chair for a long while.

I've just managed to register for a fuel rebate as I'm on disability living allowance. Matt mentioned it a while back but I thought there was a deadline that I'd missed. I saw it on Working Lunch on tv and so thought I'd have a try. It makes a change for us to get a discount on anything. Don't know how much yet though.

We've now bought some wallpaper and paint for our bedroom. The wallpaper was reduced from 11.99 to 5.99 a roll. It'll probably be Easter before hubby starts on it though.

it would need to be a very large food parcel for the whole week copper!!!

it's a little more complicated than a stone unfortunately... a week in nhs hospital is pretty much the worst nightmare for me!

chicken little...well can't say i liked it much, not up to the standards of some of the other animated films that have been around recently, story and gag wise that is. the nquick shopping trip in the crowds so it was very quick.

hope you feel a bit better this morning all would say specific person but several of you not up to speed so general feel better wish!

to top it all i'm nursing a migraine as well now and i'm a little nervous of dosing up on my normal tablets with only one kidney working properly! bugger

Matt I thought it was your liver that dealt with drugs etc....

I'm feeling a bit better this morning, finally dragged myself out of bed, could quite happily have stayed there for a good while longer. Am going to see if I can get some cheese today. Pancakes and Ians visit were nice yesterday.
Oh and I decided that I'm staying at uni :) I've also got an assessment coming up (don't know when) for my DSA.
Hopefully see a lot of you in chat this afternoon.

Oh Matt - you poor thing

Claire - pleased you are feeling a bit better. Good news that you have decided to stay at uni. It would be silly to give up now as you are half way through and have battled through so much this year.

Rebecca - I hope the job goes well tomorrow. I expect that you will feel tired but at least you have a pay packet to look forward to at the end of the month :)

Thanks Copper, job starts following Monday. (I am going to pay for a bit of extra help to try to combat the tiredness, I have already found a dog walker.) Which is good as it gives me another week to recover which I think should be enough. Feeling a bit more human today after migraine yesterday and last night. Decided it has been triggered by a release of stress of finding out about the school, have been subsonsciously stressed by this for a long time. Also coming off the streroids.

I might venture out the house this afternoon.

Glad you are picking up a bit Clare and that you have decided to stay at uni.

Well done on the job, Rebecca.

I've been really tired this week due to working really hard at work Monday-Wednesday, then having a migraine Thursday morning - but unlike what The Verve say, the drugs do work and it wasn't that bad. I am having a nice relaxing weekend though.

Matt I've never seen a white deer, looking forward to seeing the pics.

:lol2: We're chuffed as a pair of blue-tits are definately using the nesting box hubby made. They're spending more time in there each day. About 15 mins yesterday. Hopefully the nosey squirrel will leave them alone, he sits on the roof and pokes his nose in the hole!! GRRRRRRR I was going to aim something at the squirrel the other day but as hubby said, I'd probably hit the greenhouse in the garden behind us, as I'm not a good aim, to say the least.

Also had a chaffinch and a great spotted woodpecker down, and a bathing blackbird - it's freezing out there but it didn't worry him!

Hope everyone gets over their ailments soon.

Well I've just had to take my first day off sick since last April. Went to bed feeling a little bloaty and woke up this morning to vomiting, diarrhoa and lots of nausea, with a bit of stomach cramping thrown in for good measure. I feel ok sitting in one spot but moving seems to make me feel queasy so I don't think travelling to work would be a good move right now!

Not 100% sure what caused it (I'm assuming it's not a virus although my brother and my parents are just starting to get over a bug), but I'm suspecting either some ham (from our favourite, Sainsburys), pork pies from Tesco or some japanese snack things from holland and barratt. Those are the only untried things I've eaten in the last day. I did actually feel a little iffy on Friday after eating a sandwich with the ham in it so I'm leaning that way.

Lots of cold water for me today.

cnc
06-03-2006, 08:52 AM
Fozzybear, it could actually be a virus, several people round here have been doing the 24hour vomiting thing. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Lots of admin to do today, plus some work and some shopping. I seem to need a random selection of items at the moment....
It's also rather cold- I can't put a jumper on, as it hurts my arms too much, and I can't put the radiator on because it causes my computer to crash even more often than usual!!

Fozzybear
06-03-2006, 10:03 AM
Thanks Claire. I do feel a little better than when I got up, the nausea isn't too bad now and my stomach cramps are calming down. I seem to feel worse if I lie down or sit back so am sat at my computer all wrapped up warm. Just had a piece of toast and don't feel sick so hopefully will be able to keep that down. I think I'll be ok by this evening.

Squirrels - caught one on the bird seed no idea how it got down the 'squirrel proof' wire. Aimed about 6 stones and missed so threw a handful of nuts, hoping he'd jump down and eat them. That scared him away for a while.
:master:
The hole in the bird box is way too small for them to get in at present, I'm hoping they won't nibble away to make it bigger :uzi:. I'll have to practise my aim in the arcade.

I'm off to the gallery now to look at Matt's photos.

Copper
06-03-2006, 03:31 PM
I have not had any trouble with the squirrels this year, mainly because I have a squirrel proof nut feeder that actually is squirrel proof. I have taken pity on the birds this year and put seed on the ground for the last couple of months. I have spotted a couple of magpies helping themselves and the pigeons.

A female blackbird was making a feeble attempt at collecting nesting material yesterday.

Today I told my boss that I was not going back in September (after the summer break) - his face fell. I am waiting to see how long it takes for the news to get around. Well I have to do something to amuse myself this half term :D

Assessment was surprisingly useful- these people actually want to help. You don't have to justify your illness etc, they are there to help reduce the amount that your problems affect you.
So lots of technology should be winging its way to me eventually. I feel a bit bad getting all this stuff, but if its going to help me recover then it has to be a good thing.

Zachary's 1st birthday today. Went to "Sing and Sign" class with him this morning then off to Asda for a few bits. Had a cake just for the candle bit, but he couldn't eat any of it:( , more for the other 2 than him ( he got some nice chocolate instead! ). GOOD LUCK MATT.

Well still improving slowly but a lot of viral type symptoms. But I went to see the chest consultant and he said a lot of his patients had been suffering from asthma symptoms for a lot longer than normal. This is quite reassuring as it backs up my assessment that there is a particularly long lasting bug going round. Also that the flu jab wouldnt have made any difference.

Just going to take it easy for next few days so I can be as well as possible for work on Monday.

Thanks for the good wishes, I think I have the eosinophilia again as its the same pattern of symptoms as last year. I am going to rest and use any spare resources to push the doctors to do their job. I have just emailed the consultant letting him know I expect him to carry out investigations into the eosinophilia if the chest infection results come back negative. It feels better to do this now than wait more days until the results come back and then days for them to agree with me. Very assertive!!! It's going to be a wrap up warm and watch films and telly weekend for me. My stomach bug added full cold symptoms on Tuesday, but the upset stomach is pretty much gone now. Other than Monday I've been at work but I've not exactly been working at peak efficiency! I couldn't keep down my dinner on Wednesday, a Covent Garden soup, but I think I was a bit ambitious as it was a chicken mullagatowny. The only reason I had it was that it was one I bought last week and was about to go out of date. I fared much better last night though, baked potato with heinz beans and sausages - very nice! I've still got another Covent Garden soup (Thai Chicken) to try, but that's ok until mid next week so I'll give my stomach plenty of time to recover before trying that!

Just had my online order from Tesco groceries arrive - 3 dented tins, a bag of flour with a bit of a tear in it, a very green (and slightly smelly!) baking potato and everything is slightly manhandled. I'll take back the tins to Tesco in person (no point ringing them as last time I did that it was a pain getting them to sort out stuff like this) but as they don't seem to have improved since I last used them a couple of years ago I'll stick to Sainsburys in future - if you buy stuff you know is allergy-ok then they're good, all the stuff arrives in good shape. I'll send an email off to Tesco venting my ire though!

Oh, and my cold seems to be improving! Was pretty bad this morning but the snottyness is reducing and I don't feel quite so bleaugh (technical term ;)) either. My lips are really chapped and sore but I've just been out and got some vaseline for them. I woke up with a bunged up left ear thinking I was going to get an ear infection but it 'seems' to be improving - if it gets worse I'll go and see the quack on Monday.

Oh, and some snow falling here now!

I have seen the young kids in my Tesco getting the orders and it did not inspire me to use them. They either grab the first thing on the shelf, chat to their mates about their social lives or even worse run down "their" customers. I heard one girl complaining to her mate about her customer who had asked for 1 carrot, 1 parsnip etc etc. I felt like saying well if you live on your own that is all you need for a couple of meals. They were taking up the whole aisle to moan too

I am sure the bunged up feeling will go eventually. Catarrh bungs my ears up. If you decide to use a decongestant from over the counter beware as some of them contain lactose.

Oh, and some snow falling here now!We had snow, 10 minutes of the stuff, and guess who was outside for those 10 minutes?!

Glad to hear you're on the mend Fozzybear :)

Tescos deliveries have been quite good at home the couple of times we used them. Only complaints were a jars' poppery thing was up, so couldn't be used, but I wouldn't have noticed that if I'd picked it up myself, and some short dated stuff which again I might not have noticed.

Am having a restful weekend. No work being done etc.... I'm only doing this because I'm a little scared of Lou- she keeps shouting at me to rest :lol2::lol2:

Glad your feeling better Fozzy, I am too just a few things left to clear up but the big horrible things have gone. Hurrah. We have had all the symptoms you have mentioned Fozzy including the lip thing. It has been a very strange bug.

Just got to get the youngest better now.

What seemed to turn it around for me was an Epsom salt bath somebody suggested.

I have had my in laws family round today. A pleasure but a challenge. Eldest taught them how to play settlers. I made myself some wheat free gnocchi for tea which was at least something different.

Have some of the kids friends staying the night.

So it'll be a rest tomorrow so I am ready for work on Monday.

The consultant emailed me straight back telling me how to get the xrays and blood tests, lets just hope I dont need them now.

How's the card making going Copper?

I've just finished a retirement card (x stitch). Megan and I have just received an order from 'Yellow Moon'. It's a catalogue you order from and the school get some commission. The items seem quite cheap.

We had a neighbour round today to price the flat for double glazed replacement windows. We were surprised it's cheaper than we thought but we still need to have a good think about it. Our kitchen, bathroom and 2nd bedroom are north facing and are bloomin freezing when the north wind blows!

Glad to hear you're feeling better Fozzy, saw you on TV last night!!!!

Actually been worse again today. :( I feel a bit better at the moment but spent all day in bed with sore sinuses and head, feeling dizzy and woozy and had quite a bit of nausea. A bit like I was a week ago! The running nose and coughing and sneezing is easing up but I've still got badly chapped lips and nose and a bit of a blocked ear.

Well the doctor says I don't have an ear infection and my left ear is a little better but the right one is quite blocked and feels a little 'pressured'. He gave me a pretty good head and throat exam and confirmed that it does seem to just be one of the viruses that are going around at the moment. I asked about going in to work today and he thought it would probably be better if I didn't, so I'm resting today and going back to work tomorrow. He also prescribed domperidone for my nausea but thinking back now I'm sure that was one of the drugs that made me really ill! I don't feel so queasy now anyway so hopefully I'll be ok now.

Also my lips seem to be starting to clear up, so smearing them frequently with vaseline has done the trick (good job - I spent all yesterday with the taste of it in my mouth, which is not nice!). Just need to get the fleece blanket out and relax on the sofa now. I'll watch last night's Planet Earth - I watched last weeks and it was amazing, will definitely buy the DVD of this to go with all my other Attenborough DVDs! Might also watch Howl's Moving Castle as I got the DVD through the post on Saturday but was too ill to watch it. I love the Hayao Miyazaki japanese animated films and this one is supposed to be fantastic - can't wait to see it! If anything is going to take my mind off being ill those will!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well again Fozzybear, only go to work tomorrow if you feel up to it.

I had a major bout of my gastritis last night, 30 mins after I ate my dinner. I'm SO fed up with it now. All I've had today is some cornflakes and toast, I get frightened to eat. I really can't pin down what causes it to flare up. I only ate a small meal of chicken, 2 pieces of potato and fresh carrots. I keep a diary of what I eat when it flares up but nothing seems to tally. :(

More bland food for a couple of days, boiled rice, white fish, toast etc.

I wonder how Matt is getting on, when was his op?

I'm varying them with paracetamol, as I don't have any inflammatory conditions, so they're just trying to treat the pain. Its the only stuff the doctors will let me have for the pain, so there's not much I can do really, although personally I'm pretty sure the pains are due to muscle wastage though, so if anyone knows how to solve that (not involving exercise!!) then I'd quite like to hear :)

Once you've had Ibuprofen once as an asthmatic and it doesn't do anything bad to you, then they're quite happy to let you take it!! Me and food are a happy combination, so generally there's always food involved!!

Statistics didn't go very well today, got quite bored, did some reading though, and hopefully then I can actually make the project work.

I'm finding it hard to keep up with all the posts now I'm working.

My job description in the geography department hasn't been firmed up yet, so hopefully plenty of classroom support. Maybe resource preperation too I dont know.

Clare to what extent have you looked into more food intolerences being a cause of your problems? For example I have found most of my problems are caused by a food or by for example tampax. I have found this all out on my own and the doctors still deny I had a kind of toxic shock called skalded skin syndrome as they say I wasnt ill enough. These are not minor symptoms and the scalded skin and pulmonary eosinophilia are nasty illnesses.

The substance that makes me ill in asprin is called salicylic acid. In Asprin it gives me anaphalxis. But you dont have to get anaphalictic reactions to be salicylate sensitive and these acids are also present in food and mimiced by certain artificial additives like mint flavours.

You probably know all this all ready and I know you are really ill and just trying to keep going so you can do your degree. I guess I just want to help if I can and know that not only do the doctors not have all the answers and need a lot of pushing but sometimes you have to find these things out for yourself because they deny the symptoms or that you are really ill enough.

I know that if it was a food intolerance then cutting it out would make me better, but I don't have the energy to decide what to cut out and then also spend more time in shops looking for the correct food. Also I'm a little scared that if I start messing around with foods again, I'll stop bothering to eat properly, which isn't a good thing.

Copper I'm sorry to hear they are putting pressure on you to take more on again. Clearly they rely on you cause you are so good at what you do, but I suspect they dont tell you that enough.

In a nutshell - some people have had a dose of the various things doing the rounds - viruses. Some of us are stressed at work. Some of us are stressed at uni.

We have loads of new members with babies/toddlers with various intolerances.

Matt has been proper poorly and has just had a kidney removed!

I think that covers it :)

That sounds about right! thanx copper very much appreciated!

Hope you get well soon matt,

Main reason why i haven't been on was through uni assignments, being poorly, and having problems to deal with at home causing me to try and get home to scotland at 8pm lol!

lol anyways will speak to ya all soon!

I was behaving myself in chat!! (primarily because I was on the phone), I must say I was shocked at some of the chat, my young, innocent mind has been traumatised.

Bits and pieces to do today, likely to involve statistics, and have to go and visit occupational health today, am sure that will be fun!! (It's at the other side of town so will be a fairly sizeable bike ride for me )

Hope you all have a good week.

Work is still really good. Survived the toughest class in the school today, and got some good work out of some of them.

Feeling very low though as test results show I have a chest infection and consultant wants me on another 2 week course of antibiotics which I cant pick up til tomorrow evening. This is going to make me poorly, upset my system and all the good work I've done. And on top of 3 courses of steroids, one of antibiotics, dose of flu, job hunting/new job its all I need right now.

But better to know than struggle on with an infection which has happened all to many times before. Cant see the bright side tonight - maybe tomorrow after I've had to explain to the doc I need tablets without lactose in them.

Like Matt says where is spring when you need it?

No ignoring chest infections, its not nice. (I think theres a reasonable chance that the damage I did to myself over summer with rowing and ignoring the chest infection, has contributed to my current state, and I really wouldn't wish this on anyone!!). To solve problems with tablets I ended up with the liquid antibiotics (don't know if there is stuff in them you can't have, the downside is that they need refrigerating, but the upside is- they taste nice (apart from one set I had) and don't have lactose in them!!
Just thought I'd suggest it as an option though.

Ooops I should have gone to bed a little while ago, never mind!! Take care all :)

don't try to work through the infection, it only makes things worse and tkae longer. take time out and the medication and hopefully it'll go away.

how to train for 5k run. slow and steady, firstly make sure you have proper running shoes or you'll pay for it later. then set yourself goals. don't expect to be able to run full distance. run 1/4 mile walk 200 yards then run again. each time you do it you run a bit more and walk less. until you can do the whole lot. lots easier outside as you am fora lamppost or corner to get to. running machines don't come with those!

managed to get out of the front door and have a little walk yesterday. will do again today and keep on slowly until can do a proper one! insanity to fend off.

chat brought back memories!!! but the least said about that the better!!:lol2:

running machines don't come with those!
Running machines teach a bad running habit. They restrict the natural way of running, and so you're better off learning outside to begin with. Make sure you get some decent shoes- they may cost a bit, but its worth it. Go to a decent sports shop, not one of these chainstores and get someone to assist you. Try the shoes on and have a walk around see what you think is most comfortable. (I advise going to a decent shop, because if you have over-pronation problems for example, you'll be in agony if you start running and your feet aren't properly supported)
http://www.epodiatry.com/running-shoes.htm Has some info about running shoes and other tips.
Oh and once you've found the pair you want- shop online, they're a lot cheaper!!

I'm full of painkillers as well this morning  Got woken at 4.15 this morning to a smoke alarm going off, wasn't best pleased and decided to call a Porter to make them investigate. So that wasted about 45 minutes of my sleep time, which may explain why I didn't manage to get out of bed until a quarter to ten (although I was struggling to read the time and actually thought it was only 8.45!!)

Lou- I'll let you know when people are next in chat, and you can join in and help the conversation get a little lower :lol2:

Hey guys thanx for that, yeah i am used to running on a treadmill, i have got decent trainers, always been told that i should always have decent trainers cause am always on the go, and plus they help support my ankle as well, due to tendon an ligament problems attached from the foot to the ankle lol. Actually ran for the first time yesterday, didnt push myself that hard, and i am still in agony, but that could also be from a 4 hour rehearsal, flinging myself about everywhere lol!

Thanks Jazzingal. I'm starting to get over my virus now (I hope!), the symptoms have eased a lot over the last day or two and my ears are periodically becoming unblocked so I'm starting to be able to understand what people are saying again. I even managed to get out on Sunday and take a few photos - I'll post some up later on although they're not exciting, just some shots from around Chelmsford.

Had to help set up a projector and Powerpoint presentation yesterday, which was interesting as I've never used Powerpoint before! I mentioned this to my manager (who I was setting it up for) when he said I should know all about this, pointing out that I can't be expected to know how to use software that I haven't been given training for. ;)

I did get time to have a bit of a mess about with Powerpoint today as I was watching a bit of kit go through a life test (boring!) and it seems pretty poor - you can't seem to do that much with it! I did make a quick jokey slideshow to try it out that went down well in the workshop though. :D

You should still be resting Matt. Use the cold weather as an excuse to put the heating on and stay indoors.

The antibiotics (liquid kids ones) made me REALLY nauseous so its back to the doctor for another try. I think I shall have to take a day off work. But I would much rather be at work, I am enjoying it so much.

All the usual frustrations at my health stopping me from getting on with my life. If they had given me a longer course of antibiotics in the first place I wouldn't be going through all this now. Usual story. One day I might find a really good GP.

I haven't checked the forum for a few days and came back to 249 messages! And was about five pages behind on this one.

I hope everyone that's feeling ill is feeling better soon.

If I hadn't known I'd have a lot to catch up on I'd have been in here at 5am. I woke up at 4 something (wasn't awake enough to read the numbers after that) and eventually gave up trying to get back to sleep, and decided to do something productive, as I was awake.

By the time I went back to bed I was really cold and it was light! Needless to say, I'm really tired, and am going to be watching Taggart from bed, I think. This is also why I can't remember what I've read in these five pages of posts!

welcome to my world PA visiting the site at stupid o'clock!

goose feel better soon and try to enjoy the enforced rest.

trust me all i am resting. i'm sat for most of the day. but try to have episodes of activity to keep me sane. the 300 yard walks are a way to slowly build up to proper exercise. you do need to do something or can be detrimental to recovery. keeps things moving and flexible!

and after the walk i'm sat again for another hour or more!!!

What a day! I will be glad when March ends!

I was in the bathroom this morning and the radiators and pipes (although the heating wasn't on) starting clonking VERY loudly. I went into the kitchen to find water pouring out of the boiler and the pipes!! PANIC PANIC!!! I tried to calm down and not have a panic attack, of which I am prone, as I thought I would fall over and drown!! Very practical aren't I.

I found the stop cock and managed to turn off the water:o , we're all mains water and so it was coming out at quite a speed!! That stopped it a bit. I then threw a pile of bathtowels on the floor, put bowls everywhere and phoned hubby in a state of panic.

I phoned our heating co. (of 12 years service until today!) to be told he could get someone out tomorrow.

We mopped up and emptied the kitchen drawers that were full of water and dried all the things in the cupboards. Another plumber has just arrived to say it is the mains pipe going to the boiler that needs replacing and someone will be with us shortly. Charge £38.50 per half hour plus VAT!!

So we've no water, heating, toilet etc. etc. It's quite mild here today but it is starting to get chilly.

How does the song go - 'things can only get better'. We've still got water under and behind the units.

cnc

Linny, hope it all gets sorted soon.

I think you need some a decent dvd and plenty of quilts to snuggle up under- will distract you at least.

My room looks like a tip at the moment, think it would be shut down under health and safety requirements!! Home on Saturday, my parents seem to be intending to turn up quite early, but then as they'll be doing all the moving of stuff, I suppose I can just roll out of bed when they turn up :lol2:

God - that sounds like a nightmare Linny! Hope the guy is ok and does a good job for you.

In much more mundane news: I had a day's holiday today and went up to Colchester this morning and took loads of photos (about 130 in all, but many were repetition shots with different settings). I got up there about 9.30 and I came home about 2ish and although it was nice and sunny the wind was pretty cold! I found that my hands were drying and cracking up in the wind too, something I do suffer a bit from but it was brought on because I spent most of the time with my hands out in the wind while holding a camera! Next time I'll take some hand cream with me.

I've had a chance to go through some of the photos and I've put some of the better ones up onto flickr.com so I'll post up some links to them in a bit. I didn't buy anything in Colchester other than a sausage roll and some sweets in Sainsburys but when I got back to Chelmsford I bought some stuff in the new HMV sale. I bought a copy of Annie Lennox's "Bare" album, plus "Tourist" by Athlete, and I also picked up a special DVD box set of season 5 & 6 of Seinfeld, which came in a big box with a miniature 'puffy shirt' - reduced from £75 to £35, which wasn't too bad. Looks really good - there's a photo of it on the Virgin website (costs rather more there though!):

http://www.virginmegastores.co.uk/invt/656399

Oh yeah, and my virus seems to be well on the way out!

Oh Linny what a nightmare. I hope it gets fixed very soon.

Fozzybear - yes I discovered it was still a cold wind when I left work at lunchtime. It was very hot in my room at work as the sun had been shining through the windows. My room is a bit like a greenhouse!

Annie Lennox - oh yes I like listening to her. I am on a tight budget so no spending for me :( You had a sausage roll? Does the pastry have dairy in it? I look longingly in the cake shop window once a month - they always have iced buns in the window, I used to love them - sigh!

I am SOOOOOOOO ANGRY:rant: :headbang:

Him who came at 3 o'clock said he'd been sent in his car as he was told it was a service and would get someone else to come down this afternoon.

We phoned at 5.00 said they'd call back, we phoned at 6.00 they were getting a plumber sorted. At 6.30 I PHONED they said prices were higher after 4.00pm but that wouldn't be the case for us. They then said they can't get anyone out until 8.00am tomorrow. I questioned the 'luvvie' on the phone regarding their 1 hour policy. Her ending line was 'you are personally upsetting me and I'm going to terminate the phone call' and the phone went down. I only asked her for her head office address and said I would report that their ad was misleading!!

So we're freezing with no water, we have hot water bottles made from water from next door. Ian has gone to his work to try to find an old oil heater he thinks may be lurking somewhere. It's now 15 deg and I'm feeling angry and sorry for myself all in one, not really got over the shock of the boiler blowing up.

By the way DON'T TRY TO USE '1ST ACTION' plumbers (a 24 hour, 1 hour callout emergency service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) They're in the Thompson local directory, 2 page ad.

rebecca c
23-03-2006, 07:24 PM
Linny I hope you get it sorted really soon. Loosing your water and your heating must be a double nightmare, one of those is bad enough. I would be angry and frustrated too.

You've made me realise I dont know where our stop cock is, would of been nice of the people who sold it to us to tell us. Maybe nextdoor might know.

Feeling Ok just mild IBS from the antibiotics. Work going well, I am pretty confident but just getting a bit frustrated with myself when I get things wrong. It will be helpful to go on a training course.
