Hi, I know that you can buy expensive non-dairy probiotic supplements over the internet, but does anyone know of any day-to-day, easily available items that are dairy-free?
thanks x

sorrynot really looked at the ingredients, best way is to learn the various names of milk and derivatives and then spend a few mins reading the ingredients. that or your local health food shop should be able to help.

lot's will be based on milk and so on due to the need for the bacteria that digest lactose. maybe someone else will have some knowledge of dairy free ones.

are you allergic or intolerant? short intro welcome tothe site. we'll try to be as helpfull as we can.:)

I have recently started taking milk-free Acidophilus which can be bought at health shops. I bought it on the internet though at this site:

http://www.puritan.com/

They are based in the US so it works out cheap on the exchange rate but they have a buy 1 get 2 free offer which makes it great value for money. The only downside of them being overseas is that it takes about 3 weeks for delivery.

I have only been taking the tablets for a week so don't expect to feel any different yet.

The site says this about Acidophilus:
Most digestion takes place in the intestines, so it is important to maintain intestinal health. Acidophilus supports a favorable environment for the absorption of nutrients, encourages intestinal microflora balance, and promotes the healthy functioning of the intestinal system.
Acidophilus is a friendly bacteria found in foods such as yogurt.
Each capsule provides at time of manufacture 2.4 billion live cells in a culture of Lactobacillus micro-organisms: Acidophilus, Bifidus, and Rhamnosus.

I'm having a daily dose of Alpro Yofu (natural) with a bit of honey to sweeten it a bit. £1.19 for a 500ml tub so it does about 4 days.

Edit: Sorry I forgot to welcome you to the site. I hope you join in with the general chit chat and benefit from our experience as well as sharing yours.
