My arthritic knees are causing me problems after all those hills in Whitby. So I am feeling ancient today.

you and me both, i went for a walk today, short little ones to grab some geocaches around the itchen river. then i painted a small room this afternoon...now i'm happy to snooze infront of the tv and ache for the evening. hence being back online this afternoon. feeling about 73 at the moment.

My knees have been hurting since my mammoth gardening session over the weekend. At least my back has almost recovered.

matt

a mamooth gardening session for me is about 15 mins before i'm too tired to carry on! don't i feel daft. it takes me longer to get the tools out than be able to actually work!

Hi Matt,

Thank you, and you can be the chaise lounge and I will be the toilet (hell I soend most of my time there!!!!)

I hope all is well with you. It is nice to talk to you all again.

I will not be on the website much in the next few weeks as cannot connnect to the internet, due to my mother having her house decorated. As soon as that is done I will be a regular again.

Take care.

Try and avoid the paint fumes Lan. Good luck.

matt
08-06-2005, 03:57 AM
come back soon!! get those windows open, enjoy the sunshine and get shot of the fumes. i'm running out of excuses for not decorating. in the spring it was too cold to have windows open. now i don't want to be cooped up painting and miss the rare sunshine:lol2: sooner or lateri'm goingto get caught out by someone.

Pam

That's a bit of bad timing - decorating as soon as you have moved in, I would have thought it would be easier with an emptier house, or have you been roped in to help?

I would feel like I'd had my right hand chopped off if I had no internet for a week - I get all jumpy and dithery (withdrawal symptoms). I think I'd be surfing in my lunch break at work if necessary, though last time I tried that the Council network denied me access to this site for gambling reasons! They must have heard how competitive we are in the arcade.

Does she want Barbie pictures too or is she too young yet?

Pam
09-06-2005, 04:52 PM
6 is not too young for Barbie, my 6 year old has been into all things pink and barbie from 3 (pink even earlier).

I don't understand the link between pink and girls!! I owned one Barbie or Cindy as a child and hated it- It was bought as a present and never played with
Pams, got some bad news for you regarding pink obsessions, they don't seem to improve with age, a 20 year old friend of mine is still very much in to wearing pink!

matt
10-06-2005, 03:46 AM
almost gone through the barbie phase!! been there for ages. they market stuff at kids the second they're born now.

flips to winnie the pooh every now and then. good girl, shows taste. tried to convince her paddington is good aswell.:lol2:

I'd definatly work on the Paddington and Winnie the Pooh, so much more interesting... I used to have loads of the Paddington bear books when I was a kid, they were great! :)

I think the pink thing is a rebellion, my niece is into it all and her mum HATES it. Myself I wanted to be a cowboy when I grew up and was a real tomboy but my Mum was always trying to get me in dresses. When my grandma bought me a cowgirls outfit I was really upset I wanted to be the Virginian not calamity b... Jane.

Pehaps we girls instinctively go against our parents wishes for us.

I've always hated pink (grew up in dungarees, rolling in the mud!) but had my colour charts done a few months back and they said its the best colour for my skin tone! A couple of my more girly friends have convinced me to get the odd less girly pink top here and there - but I feel so self concious wearing them! Although there must be some truth in the colour chart thing as when I do venture out in pink I get loads of complements about looking healthy/nice (think my usual blacks, reds and greys drain make me look even whiter than my pale skin already is!)

You must be a "summer" person, Christine. I'm a "spring". My colours are warm shades of red, coral, orange, turquoise, french navy, cream, lime green etc - no pink anywhere near me. Black and white are both no no's too. Summer is the most common colour for British women. I'm stawberry blonde with freckles and very pale skin but have warm tones, making me a warmer version of the summer colours. Summer is baby blue, pink, lots of pastels, but cooler light colours.

I went for girly, pink clothes for my daughter after having two boys. Fortunately she was happy to go along with this.

I don't know I think my mum always dressed my brother and me in fairly neutral clothes, I can't remember there being many pictures of me in pink, not sure there are any... I still hate wearing dresses- Have had to wear them quite a lot since being at uni, I'm even worried about wearing a full length ball gown!!
I grew up playing with Lego and things like that, but also had My Little Ponys, but not dolls, so I was quite a mix!!

matt
11-06-2005, 03:51 AM
heck i'm a bloke so it's easy for me to choose colours, i mean jeans come in black or blue......and as for matching colours.....like i said i'm a bloke....:lol2:

all black is quite daunting to see though and i'm not suprised you're getting more compliments now you're in the lighter colours... but whatever you feel more comfortable in wear. gender stereotypes always good for a laugh. i never suited a dress though. haven't got the legs for it.:D

Hi all,

The house should be finished shortly and will be back on here. My mother had started the decorating weeks before I got there, so moved back in at the wrong time really.

All my friends have been very supportive, so very lucky really. My work colleagues have also been great and of course, yourselves.

The scary thing is most blokes have better legs for dresses then I do! I have had lectures on how to walk in heels by a number of guys - they are so much better at it than I am!

cnc

Don't even get me started on dresses!! I have a massive issue with wearing them, I panic for weeks before hand about wearing them!!So as my Ball is on Friday, I've been having stresses about wearing my dress for weeks now......
Christine heels aren't that hard to walk in, I only wear them very occassionally and don't have a problem- I've been known to run in them!! Nice low heels are the answer :)

13-06-2005, 10:13 AM
I went to my uni ball in a trouser suit! (a handy hint if its anything like my one was is to take some comfy flat shoes as by 4am the alcohol wasn't enough to numb the pain of the heels! - I just popped some flip flops in my hand bag - which I was very grateful for after everyone else decided to go bare foot and ended up walking on broken glass!)

cnc
13-06-2005, 10:32 AM
Apparently theres a product called 'Party feet' which is gel cushioning to put in your shoes which is brilliant and lets you walk on your heels all night, so think I'll be getting some of those!! Also the Ball is in college, so I can go get some different shoes if neccessary, and theres seats! :)

Broxine
13-06-2005, 10:39 AM
Seats are cheating - you have to boogie the night away!!!

I've seen those 'Party feet' things advertised - and I think they sell them in most Top Shops and younger fashion shops so are easy to find. I don't know anyone whose tried them yet so you'll have to let me know how you get on as if they work I might invest!

I've never been able to cope with heels. Just buy pretty flatties.

One year a wore a dutbin bag dress to our May ball because the year before my sisters ball gown got covered in trifle when I walked into the middle of a food fight.

It was good fun making it and I got a wide range of comments. (one person wouldnt talk to me all night). When my mates poured their beer all over it I didnt blink an eye. Pretty hot though!!

cnc
13-06-2005, 04:41 PM
My dress is covered by several dustbin bags at the moment, its too long to fit in my wardrobe so is hanging from the curtain rail! Sitting down my have to occur as I'm racing that afternoon and will be racing the following day, so might want a seat at some point!! And I'm not sure I can stand on my feet from 9-6 or whatever silly times it is!!

Pam

I love dressing up in nice dresses (as long as I can wear tights to cover my awful legs) I just never get the opportunity these days. Even at my work christmas do I would have felt overdressed in a frock. My dresses are all almost ankle length and quite straight so look better with high heels.

When I first started work I used to be in the post room at the county council and spent all day long clip clopping around County Hall's marble corridors in my 3" stilletoes - probably why I have a bad back now! I don't think I could wear such high heels for so long now though.

cnc
13-06-2005, 08:02 PM
High heels can cause quite serious problems with your spine and legs :( I can't wear stilettos, the pointy bit at the end squashes my toes together, and its quite hard to get shoes in a big enough size for me as well!!
My dress is floor length on me, with a small train thing, friends who have seen it says its lovely, but I'm still very nervous!

the only for me to rejoin this thread would be to raise rocky horror show and believe me we don't want to go there.........:lol2:

I'm only 5'3'' but cannot wear high heels any more. I have wide feet too. I tend to buy my shoes from a catalogue called Fashion World as they do sell fashionable wide/flat shoes. We seem to have to spend a lot on shoes in our family. Megan has to have Start Rite shoes as she has narrow feet - only £38.00 a pair!!!!! She has to wear black shoes to school and she gets fed up with almost the same design every year.:(

Rocky Horror Show is great! And, after seeing the live stage show, its safe to say that men can walk in high heels a lot better than I can!

cnc
14-06-2005, 01:43 PM
I can sympathise with Megan, the shoes avaliable for me when I was younger weren't exactly the nicest shoes around, as far as I know things have improved slightly, I can't remember why I had so many shoe problems, some of it must have been to do with the size of my feet- I'm now a 9!!
I only wear heels very occassionally, and get sandal things that don't have closed toes on them, but other than that I live in casual shoes.

Broxine
14-06-2005, 02:40 PM
If I could get away with my trainers in the office I would wear them everywhere! I also have the habbit of going barefoot wherever possible - which is great for comfort but makes the soles of my feet look less than attractive....

cnc
14-06-2005, 03:11 PM
I like walking around barefoot too. For any job I had I used to wear fairly flat things, not particularly pretty etc, but quite stable (I stumble a lot, so wouldnt be safe on tiny heels too often).
I have a fairly casual trainer, not like sports trainers, 'board wear as such

Broxine
14-06-2005, 03:19 PM
Even flat shoes don't stop me stumbling! Rather embarressingly I have been known to fall over when standing on the spot before - I was even sober at the time! (I fidget a lot and my sense of balance is awful - and it doesn't help that I tend to wear big baggy trousers that trip me up even more!)

Lan
18-06-2005, 01:46 PM
Hi all,

I always wear flat shoes or ones with small heels. I am lucky as I am 5ft 5inches and am happy to wear them. My mother however is 4ft 11inches and always wears heels. I just go for comfort.

I get banned from wearing very high heels, as I'm already 5'11" I have some small heels, but I don't really need to wear them very often- I live in jeans or casual trousers, and definatly not any use for rowing!!which is what I spend a lot of my life doing!

matt

yeah now try finding size 14's!!! needless to say i wear walking shoes/boots alot as you can get them and they are well built. places like high and mighty charge a fortune and the shoes aren't that good.

and high heels, nightmare to get.......:lol2:
