I can recommend the Swedish Glace chocolate 'ice cream' dessert. I don't usually like chocolate ice cream as I find it 'powdery'. But this is delicious, the nearest thing I've tasted to milk chocolate since I've been dairy free. It tastes like milk choclate mousse. :bleh: I bought it from Waitrose. I also got raspberry flavour but I haven't tasted that yet. I also like their strawberry flavour 'ice cream'.
I prefer their vanilla. My daughter loves the chocolate but I'm not that keen.

Ooh, I can see a trip to Waitrose coming on tomorrow...
I think the chocolate one is better than the vanilla one- It stays firmer than the vanilla as well, the vanilla always seems to be slightly soft when I eat it...
raspberry flavour is rather nice.

They sell it at Sainsburys too (at least the one near me does!). I'm a vanilla person myself - and have to say it tastes even more creamy and lush than I remember real ice-cream being! Yummy!!!!
Sainsburys near me sells the vanilla only, but its quite a lot cheaper than in Holland and Baretts or wherever else I attempt to buy it.

I have just been to the local Jewish deli and bought some Swedish Glace strawberry which is  I also bought some of the Swedish Glace Mocha and Coffee Ripple to try. Has anybody else tried it?

I haven't been lucky enough to find the Mocha or Coffee Ripple, but they sound lovely. Let us know what they're like.

I thought this was some other dessert, not the ordinary Swedish Glace ice cream.
I've had some of the Mocha and Coffee Ripple and thought it was really nice. But then I do like coffee ice cream.
So far I've tried chocolate, strawberry, raspberry ripple, above mentioned coffee, and caramel, all of which were very nice. The strawberry in particular is better than any other (dairy) strawberry ice cream in my opinion.
I don't like coffee either so wouldn't get the mocha one. My husband who is anti-dairy free stuff actually prefers swedish glace to dairy ice cream.
Vanilla is usually around £1.59 in supermarkets and our local Tesco sold flavours for that price originally, but they no longer do the different flavours. Flavours now have to be bought in health food shops at £2.30+. I have yet to find Tofutti ice cream or First Glace (though I've had magnum type ice cream lollies by First).
I know where I can get hold of some tofutti Ice cream, might go and get some as treat for after my final race!!I think its chocolate and cookies or something along that line...
Hi all.
The raspberry and strawberry flavours are great. I was in Holland and Barrett today and have been told that the Caramel flavour is also gorgeous. Will let you know when I have tried it.
I also got dairyfree (I think wheat free) nut and milk chocolate cornettos. I highly recommend them as they are stunning. I will get the details and post them here as I can't get enough of them.:drool::drool::drool::drool: They are also quite low in calories considering. I will also let you know if they are free of any other products.
Take care.
Lan:D
What brand are the cornettos, Lan?
i think i've seen some in the shop in salisbury and some choc ices. not bothered looking closely as too far from home to get them home without melting.

I often lose new posts if I get interupted and have to come back later...they seem to vanish even if I haven't read them yet! :(

The raspberry is good and even my husband likes it, he doesn't like any of my other dairy free substitutes! I have told him fingers off!
I also have bought today some coffee ripple to try from the local health food shop :)

I am soya intolerant now so I can't eat this ice cream anymore
I have made my own ice cream using oat cream. It was very sweet. I need to experiment with some strong flavours and no added sugar.

I've not tried coffee ripple yet. I love the swedish glace 'cornettos' and 'Magnums' best.:lol2::lol2:

In the US, Haagen-Dazs do a chocolate sorbet; sounds a bit wierd being a sorbet, but it's delicious, really an intense chocolate flavour. I do so wish they sold it here!!

I like the chocolate sweedish glace best a lot of the others are too sickly for me. I have had before from holand and barrat carob choc ices which were quite nice, and i've seen other sorts of ice creams there, mainly toffutti ones, I think I've seen the cornettos mentioned above. They also had at one time packs of I think four little pots of one portion of chocolate ice cream I think it was alpro soya it was soo yummy I was upset when I couldn't get that anymore.
Waitrose used to do delicous dairy free ice cream there was chocolate with chocolate bits in, and rasberry with wafer in, it was really good but I don't live any where near a waitrose so I can't get it.
Another alternative is ice lollies, I know they're a little boring but last summer I found the co-op near my house had smoothie ice lollies I think they're del monte they're more grown up than regular ice lollies very tasty and I think not many callories. you don't get many in a box though so you have to buy loads. One time we got stuck in traffic on the ay back from tesco with a few boxes of these and we had to eat them on the way home before they melted.

Hi Abbie,
We haven't got a Waitrose either, unfortunately. Nor have I been able to find the cornetto variety anywhere. We're lucky just to get the Swedish glace and a few sorbets. Sainsburys at least has 3 varieties of sorbet that are good. The Tesco lemon sorbet is very bitter, so the only thing I can buy there is mango.
The Swedish Glace chocolate is OK, but that Hagen Daaz had the most intense chocolate-y flavour! I just wish they had it anywhere here. I'd kill for it!
Occasionally I do find some ice lollies, but not very often. Most seem to contain milk in some form or other. There must not be very many of us to make up a big enough market for non-dairy.

I've just seen in the April issue of Healthy Magazine that Swedish Glace has changed the recipe. The advert says that:
"Swedish Glace has launched a fabulous new selection of premium iced non-dairy deserts to replace the current highly successful range. Presented in striking new black packaging, all the luxurious flavours are now smoother and tastier than ever before and also now include a new and exciting Wild Blueberry variety."
The advert shows Smooth Vanilla, Wild Blueberry, Juicy Raspberry and Rich Chocolate. I've never been one much for flavoured icecreams but hope the vanilla is as good as before. Packaging is the same shape as it was.

Hi Jill,
As long as they don't change the recipe so that it includes dairy, that sounds good! I'd like to try the blueberry, but I haven't seen it here. Blueberry & raspberry sound more like sorbets, but maybe not - ? Has anyone tried them?
Diane
Mmmmm Swedish Glace do the neopolitan one as well ! Yum !
They've also just improved the vanilla one, you can see specks of vanilla in it ! Looks like really ice cream !

I must make some more ice cream with my oat cream. Life was so much easier when I could eat soya ice cream.

Have you tried with rice milk or Lactofree?

I'll have to try the vanilla again; it used to seem a bit wimpy to me, but then I guess I could always add fruit or something to it - ?

Lactofree makes me ill.
I like the ice cream I make with my oat cream. It just requires some spare time. It was all so much easier when I could just buy soya ice cream from the shop.
Having an intolerance to soya and lactose is a pain.
Can you believe my excitement as I went to pick up my usual Swedish Glace vanilla ice cream in Tesco when ...... to my amazement they actually had Swedish Glace neapolitan :o:eek:. I have since recovered and enjoying.:p

Very excited about all this Swedish Glace talk, I love ice cream and haven't been able to have any recently. Can't find any flavour in my local tesco though, will have to start looking further afield or trying shopping online.

All the Tesco stores round here sell the vanilla flavour. Most of the other main supermarkets sell the vanilla too. My local health food shop sells some of the other flavours. Have you got a health food shop near you?
I can't remember if I've mentioned this already, but I have had the Rice 'n' Easy I think it's called Ice cream in strawberry and possibly chocolate which was rather nice. Also Ben and Jerry's do a mango and something sorbet, which I'd never seen until I was staying with a friend who said it has been around years, which was delicious, her Dad and I polished off a tub in one sitting, ooops!!
