well, it was going so well.... After being told I was on a late shift tonight I rushed home at 4:30 to cook the kids their tea. Chicken stir fry which I made but eldest son came in kitchen and tastest it and pulled face so I grabbed a Blue Dragon Chow Mien sauce and chucked that in. It was only when I was half way through eating it chatting to the kids when it crossed my mind - I hadn't checked the ingredients - I always check - to my dismay it contained both wheat and milk!!! so back to square one on the elimination diet!! now sitting at work doing the late shift with a stomach that looks 6 months pregnant.

It is so easily done. The things that you least suspect can cause a reaction. I remember getting caught out with hot dog sausages with my daughter. It wasn't until she had a screaming fit that I looked at the label.

Unfortunately most sauces and cooking mixes contain milk in some shape or form and I suspect that they also contain wheat in most cases too.

get used to it, as said most will have one or the other or both.

i rarely bother with ready sauces these days as too much reading involved!!

Hi all,

Hazel I hope you are feeling better soon. You are certainly not a wally. Most people on this site would probably admit to making mistakes, I know I have. It is so easy to do. Take it easy and good luck with the rest of the elimination diet.

Lan. :D

Oh yes I have senior moments now and again and forget to read labels when I am in Tesco.

I've been there and done that and forgotten to read the ingredients. Occasionally I do it on purpose, just to test my tolerance. As long as it's been long enough that I've forgotten how it makes me feel! (Did it to myself yesterday, so had to have toast for breakfast this morning, which was at least a good excuse to break open the stripey chocolate spread).

Think we need to start a new thread for chocolate spread. Please post on there then we will be able to find it more easily.
