Hi all,

I am in need of some help from all of you. I have very high cholestrol and have just been prescribed tablets for it, however, they contain lactose. Does anyone have high cholestrol and know of tablets that are lactose free, or do you know of any websites I can get the information from?

I have to have tablets, but my GP does not know which ones contain lactose or not and the pharmacist has no lists either. Seems nobody cares enough. I am worried about it now and need to have tablets.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks.

I have trawled the net for information. I found four brand names and three have lactose :( The ones to avoid are

Lipostat (aka pravastatin)
Zocor (aka simvastatin)
Lipitor (aka atorvastatin)

BUT this one looks ok
Lescol (aka fluvastatin)

see this web page
http://medguides.medicines.org.uk/displaypage.aspx?t=medicine&i=90#ingredients

Armed with this info it might be worth ringing NHS direct and asking them to confirm what I have found.

I hope that this helps.

Hi there.

Thanks for all your help. Hoping to find one soon as cholestrol is quite high. Will be even higher after the weekend as will my blood pressure, from the money I'll be spending on this hen weekend.

Thanks again.

last time they checked my cholesterol it was something daft like 3.11 nurse had never seen one as low... but it's amazing what a starvation diet will do. god knows what it is now as my diet is terrible, don't eat enough but lots of crisps really...

ho hum, enjoy the hen night.

Once when the ENT consultant wanted me to take nose sprays and I explained my problem with them he got the head of the pharmacy to research the ingredeints of all the sprays and they sent me the details. Failed to mention there is a salt water spray which is pretty good too. But it shows it can be done!!!!!

Hi all,

I had a really great time at the hen night. Drove up with Hen Night balloons on the back of the car and had a lot of attention from other drivers. Got to Reading and had a BBQ and many glasses of wine. The bride-to-be drunk a whole bottle of red wine and was severely hung over the next day. Loads of vomiting.

Completed the pole dancing on the Saturday and enjoyed it. I actually have a certificate to say I passed the 2 hour lesson and just need a pole to practise on now. Friends have told me to find a tall skinny man to practise on, but i'd prefer a metallic pole anyday. We then went onto Revolution in the night and sunbathed and recovered on Sunday. Long journey back, seemed to go on forever, but excellent.

So looking forward to the wedding now.

Take care.

Someone who used to use one of the other sites that I frequent set up one of these pole dancing schools and does a lot of hen parties, I'm not sure where she is though (think she has a web site). Sounds like you had fun, hope you are over your hangover now.

Hi Pam,

I was one of the only ones not to have a hangover. I was so pleased and it meant I enjoyed myself more. The ladies name for pole dancing was Jolene, wonder if that was the member from the other site?

Take care.

I can't for the life in me remember her name but I don't think it was Jolene. There are probably one or two of these "schools" going now around the country as they seem quite popular.

Why, are you offering?

Hi Matt,

Any offers are greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed it and would like to keep practising, for when I meet the next true love in my life. Just has too be done. Everyone should have a go. I'm starting to think I'm a poledancing addict. Have been showing my certifciate all around work. Just can't get enough.

I'm rambling now, so.....

You evidently had a lot of fun Lan. One of the nightclubs here has poles for people to try poledancing....*I've never been drunk enough to be persuaded to go to the club*-It doesn't play my type of music to be honest!! I'm sure there must be other nightclubs around that offer the same kind of thing Lan!

Have you noticed how the topic of cholesterol has changed to pole dancing? :lol2: I am not the slightest bit interested in pole dancing - probably an age thing.

I did notice that this had gone well off topic!! I'm not too interested in either topic, but its quite an entertaining discussion :D

oops, i'm sure that wasn't my fault for once.:o

but then with a cholestrol level at 3.11 when they last looked i don't need any tablets unless they are made of lard!:lol2:
