I made a special trip to the really good health food shop yesterday and found that they now sell non-dairy double cream! It comes as a packet to whip or in a pressurised can. I got the can, as I figure I can use it bit by bit, but the packet looked good if you wanted to do a lot at one time.

The brand is Soyatoo, and its suitable for vegans (says so on the packet). I can't wait to try it! I've spent years thinking that there's a non-dairy substitute for absolutely everything *except* double cream, and here it is! I haven't quite worked out what to use it for yet, perhaps to re-create a proper English tea with scones and raspberry jam...

Anyway, thought people might like to know about it, as its something I've been searching for for ages.

Thanks, I will look out for that one. I've always wanted a double cream to make a trifle with.

I have missed double cream too. I must put that on a look out for list. Thanks for telling us.

... on some blueberries, and it was very nice. I don't remember what cream tastes like, but my husband tried some and said it was very close indeed to squirty dairy cream, though perhaps a little sweeter.

The only slightly disappointing thing was that it dissolved into liquid quite quickly (possibly because the blueberries were wet from being washed) and so I think you'd have to put it on at the very last minute, otherwise it might all dissolve and not look very good. But that only matters if you're doing a posh pudding for guests.

Is this likely to be in Holland and Barratt? Might be nice with the Tesco Apple Turnovers that are milk-free - they're good with the Alpro dream single 'cream'. Yum yum!
