hi all, my name is karen and i am 35 yrs of age. my friend who unfortunatley doesnt have access to a pc, wants too find out more information regarding here daughter.
her daughter is 10 yrs of age and has suffered since she was 15 months old.
what i would like too now is, she has been given so many treatments, laxatives, diets, medication that the poor little 1 is so fed up. i want too be able to send some good news for a change to her.
she has been in great olmand street hospital and in and out of different hospitals all of which have the same answer "try this and come back"
the only thing left is a tempary colostomy bag, what a thing too go thru. anyone that has any suggestions please email me or if u have gone thru something simular.
all she wants too be is a normal little girl that can have loads of fun and hopefully no pain. if any1 can advise me or give me tips to pass on that would be great, thanx.
hope to hear from you soon. best wishes karen xxx
Poor little girl, I hope it doesn't have to come to a colostomy bag for her, growing up is hard enough without added difficulties.
I assume she has already tried strict dairy free and wheat free diets but if not, it might just help. She should take medical advice and perhaps try a total elimination diet to see if this helps and then gradually introduce new things to see what foods she can tolerate and which ones cause problems.
Other things to try are alternative therapies eg accupuncture, reflexology, hypnosis etc A lot of people find relief from all sorts of problems by using different therapies. If you have a sympathetic doctore you might be able to get treatment on the NHS too, though they can be very expensive if you go to a private clinic.
You might also find The Inside Story useful. It is a magazine that is available on subscription only but is really helpful for people with food allergies. It is quite expensive but very helpful, particularly for people with multiple allergies. I think there is a link from this site to the Inside Story web page.
I hope she finds some answers soon.
Hi Karen.
Thanks for the helpful reply Pam. Hope you and Rebecca are doing fine.
Can I just advise Karen that your friends daughter needs to go to the family doctor and ask to see a state registered dietician. Please don't cut out any food otherwise.
I am sorry to hear of hear of her predicument and wish her all the luck in the world, for the future.
Kind Regards,
Lan.

Has the little girl had food alergy tests done? The NHS don't do them apparently because they are "unreliable". However many people, myself included, have had the tests done and have recovered from various illnesses from it. Personally I would never trust what a doctor told me!

I am on HNS and just had last 10 months of tests & been in 3 times for QUITE A FEW ops, I have had tests come back telling me whats wrong and have been told to try dairy free & eat what I only know doesn't make me suffer from not only THE SURGEON & DRS AT THE HOSPITAL BUT MY OWN DR! This was whilst I was in hospital before the tests was even thought of being done.
I have been diagnosed with flat lactose as well as allergic to DAIRY due to SIBS.
NOT all Drs talk crap, trust me i have been suffering 19 yrs now & was about to pay upto £400 for Yorkshire tests as my stupid doc sed put up with it, (that was like a period from my bowel) we got another Dr in the surgeon and he sent me for all these tests.
I had amongst them all a LACTOSE INTOLERANCE test on the NHS & it took 2½hrs and 5 months waiting but came back telling me I was intolerant, it came back as "flat lactose"
I am due to go back to MR NICE Dr soon, but now I suffer tiredness all the time.
PLEASE DO NOT TREAT ALL DRS AS CRAP, THERE IS SOME NICE UNDERSTANDING ONES THERE IT JUST TAKES TIME.
I have been booted off 2 surgerys and left 2 in 19 yrs so DO NOT GIVE UP!!! Not all Doctors are Clowns.

I'm glad you found a good doctor in the end, its a pity it has taken so long though. I know someone else who suffers from internal bleeding like you, He is a very tall well built man and has been known to collapse and need an ambulance before the medical staff have taken him seriously. So many people are left to work out what the problem is by themselves and its thanks to sites like this that we can help each other and pass on advice. It would be lovely if there was an easy test that said 'yes you can eat x,y and z but you can't eat a, b and c'. There would be a lot of people around who would be a whole lot happier.
By the way, what does the term 'flat lactose' mean, I've never heard it before.

Hi Pam
I collapsed quite few times once was in the hospital, its very frightening for the children when it happens and 1 minute ur constipated the next constipated with the runs and on the floor sweating and tryin 2 revive yourself.
this is test i had:
The lactose tolerance test - your doctor measures your blood sugar levels before and after you drink a liquid containing lactose. If the blood sugar goes up with this test, then you are not lactose intolerant
okay Flat lactose means..
Lactose intolerance is a condition caused by the inability to digest one of the carbohydrate components of milk, specifically lactose, due to a lack of the intestinal enzyme lactase
Lactose intolerance is manifested by abdominal cramps, distension and diarrhoea after ingestion of milk.
A specific diagnostic test for the disorder will show a low or flat blood glucose curve.
The treatment is simply a lactose-free diet, supplemented with oral calcium.
What is lactose intolerance?
This is a condition caused by inability to digest one of the carbohydrate components of milk, specifically lactose, due to a lack of the intestinal enzyme lactase, which is essential for the efficient metabolism of lactose (milk sugar).
This condition can first show itself in the neonatal period with vomiting and profuse diarrhoea after milk ingestion, which resolves when lactose-free fluids are fed to the infant. However, it can also show up only in adulthood.
..i think my results were up n down... so why they say flat.. i don't know lol .. hope this helps?? :D
