http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/detail/583934b.jpgMy local Tesco's has just started stocking Meridian "Free from" Tikka Masala Sauce. It is really nice!!:bleh:
Ingredients
Water, concentrated tomato puree (7%), coconut milk (6%), creamed coconut (5%), unrefined Demerara sugar, rice starch, sunflower oil, coriander (2%), dried fried onions, ground almonds, garlic puree, salt, spice extracts, lemon juice concentrate, ginger puree, acidity regulator: citric acid, colour: paprika extract, red pepper
Has anybody else tried this?:bleh:
Yes it is good, I like their korma sauce too. I've found that they are a bit runny but otherwise very nice. I like the sun dried tomato sauce too for making a bolognese.

Noticed this in my local Tesco ages ago but haven't got around to trying it yet - sounds like I might have to give it a go.

I tried the Mushroom one last night that is quite nice!!
I wasn't keen on the mushroom one despite being a big mushroom sauce/soup fan in a previous life (pre dairy free) but it just goes to show that these sauces don't have to have milk in them so why do all the other cook-in sauces contain it?
because milk is really cheap and a great easy bulking agent as is wheat. which is why you find them in damn near everything.
it's probably why more and more people are getting intolerances aswell. too much exposure from too young an age causing a problem.
lazyness on the part of the large multinationals. like the use of hyrdrogenated fats. cheap and easy.
grab the money and who cares if we are killing/poisoning a generation.

steady on matt! but you're right, it's so annoying that they put this crap in foods, I mean why can't sliced ham be sliced ham, why does it have MILK in it, it's ridiculous!
because they need to get profit on everything
on same theme: ecstacy tablets cost about 50p to make and they can sell them for £5 good profit? not enough, they still cut them ie dilute them with real bad stuff like rat poison etc. just to make them go just a little further.
same theory with adding milk.
same result
Hi all,
You sound very philosophical there, Matt. I agree with you though that they constantly put milk in things to bulk it up. (That's why they use it in most contraceptive pills)
As to the ham issue they use the lactose to bind all the shreds of meat (left over from making the good ham). I remember my dietician telling me about this years ago.
Lan. :D:D:D
modern processed food. best not to think too deeply as the info likely to put you off. mechanically recovered meat and additives etc etc.
if only it didn't taste so nice!!!!!:o
doesn't stop me getting annoyed. why can't we have the best of both worlds at a reasonable price?
