I do a lot of travelling, and always try to carry some non-dairy food with me, just in case. After some searching for something filling and non-dairy, I discovered these flapjacks at my local newsagents. They're really handy for putting in a bag until needed as 'emergency food'. They're big and very filling, and the non-dairy selection is good (11 flavours). They seem to be increasingly available at corner shops and in stations, which is convenient.

I've used them as meal replacements before now, when I couldn't find anything non-dairy to eat, and they work very well. Also excellent for an energy boost if you're doing something active.

Here's a website about them, but unfortunately you can't order them from the website (not unless you want a pallet full!), but at least you'll know what type of packaging to look out for.

they look really nice, I'm going to keep an eye out for them. A couple in the car for emergencies would be a good idea :)

Matt - now if it were chocolate it would be 'emergencies'. :) But these are too filling for nibbling, you have to be really hungry. But they're fantastic for long-haul flights when you're not certain that the vegan meal will a) appear or b) actually be non-dairy (St Lucia's one containing butter and cheese being a low point!).

Yes Matt, please put that recipe up (on the recipe board then we can find it in future). I've tried making them with a layer of fruit in but they either go soggy or don't stick together. Apple and raspberry is very nice and if you cut the fruit into small enough bits you can just mix it into the mixture. I made a lot of flapjack pre-diet using Pure spread, golden syrup, sugar and oats. Just melt everything together in the microwave for a couple of minutes, mix in the oats, add any fruit then bake. I've found that I need to use baking parchment otherwise there is no way it will come out of the tin.
