Hi everyone,
This may be nothing to do with the dairy-free regime, but since I've been on it (and that's only about a week so far) my skin seems to be a lot clearer. I had awful acne as a teenager and still get troublesome spots as an adult, but recently it's been much better - I only have one spot, and it's going at the moment. Since this problem does seem to come and go a bit, it may well just be chance that it's happened now, but the timing seems quite coincidental.
Now if only I didn't look as white as a sheet (I'm pale even when I'm NOT ill) I could be fairly proud of it! :lol2:
I suppose I'm really just curious as to any other members' experiences with their skin health or conditions - any comments?

My skin seems a bit clearer than it used to, but I'm a teenager, so that information probably is not really that useful!
If you're putting your body through a form of detox, then you may well notice skin changes, (this means it may also get worse again :( )
I have sympathies with you over the paleness- I'm more of a milk/ghost white (apart from when I go in the sun and then I just become freckly!!)
Hope there is some form of useful information in here, if not I'm sorry!

Hi, I used to get really sore spots on my neck and around my jawline. They seem to have disappeared since giving up dairy. I'm a pale skin too. I find it really difficult to buy foundation (for when I go out on the town!!!!!) as they all seem to look far to dark. I also have to try to find one for sensitive skin.
Hi there.
I have always had a pale complexion, but since having food allergies I too seem to have got whiter. Some people have actually come onto me and insisted that I'm ill because of my complexion. I do have what they call a 'Snow White' complexion though, which is very pale skin and dark hair.
I have noticed that my skin is not as greasy as it used to be, but have only been having allergies since I was 19, so could be to do with being a teenager.
I now use a foundation that I bought after a free makeover in Boots. I also use a light red blusher on top and seems to give me a little more colour, but not too much.
Glad I'm not the only one who looks ill all year round. Just nice to know I'm not the only one.
Lan.
Lan, thats similar to my complexion- I've got very dark brown hair (and my glasses rims are normally dark, so probably doesn't help matters). When I was diving more often, my Mum used to say that all you could see of me was my hair and my swimming costume!!
Theres something wrong here- I don't use any make-up, I always assumed it was teens that were meant to be worried about their make-up!! (I don't own any foundation, would probably struggle to know what to do with it....)
Hi Claire
I struggled with foundation so went to Boots and they do free make-overs. Also included in that is free advice. Treat yourself and book one. They were very helpful and really knew their stuff.

but you live in scotland. doesn't that make you blue to start with? sorry old billy connolloy joke.
skin probs can be easily caused by allergies and intolerances. think exzcma.
Matt, I assume that comment was aimed at Gill?!
Lan, my main issue is that i have no time to bother with make-up. Rowing in make-up is probably fairly silly, so I don't bother, same goes for diving (I've seen enough running mascara from divers!) Maybe when I actually have a proper job, it may become more necessary...

Lan,
I have very pale skin and dark auburn hair. Can you tell me the make and colour of the foundation so I can have a look in Boots for it. Thanks
Hi Linny,
The foundation I get from Boots is the palest one in the range and details are as follows:
It is No7 Stay Perfect Foundation SPF15 and hypoallergenic.
It retails between £7-£10 (can't remember exact price) but is worth it as only need a small amount to add colour.
My advice would be to go to Boots and book a free makeover. They will give you loads of advice on what colours suit your complexion.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

My skin improved when I went dairy- (gluten-, sugar-, and a million other things-) free. I had eczema since I was a baby, and it disappeared when I moved to Canada 6 years ago, but I was still left with dry, scaly, dull skin, and rough hands. Within weeks of eliminating the foods I was sensitive too (and also cutting out all artificial additives--I only eat 'real' food now) I could not believe that the skin on my body actually belonged to me!! It looked like 'normal' skin and became hydrated, smooth and glowing. People kept commenting on how good my skin looked and told me I looked so well. Well, seven months after starting the diet change, my skin is still wonderful and I am in no doubt that it is because I am no longer eating foods that are toxic to my body. I definitely know that I detoxed early-on on the new diet because I had a near-total body rash for about a month before my skin cleared.
My skin has not become paler than it used to be though.
The reason I avoid dairy is because it gives me eczema, so I have to say it does make a lot of difference to my skin. However, I do manage to get spots and eczema on the same bit at the same time, so I think I might just be bizarre!
I've found - for anyone else who gets eczema - that the Natural Elegance Goats Milk Cream (stick that in Google if you want to buy some) is the best thing for it. It doesn't sting, and doesn't irritate even when my skin is really sore (usually after eating something by mistake!).
Sorry to go off topic a bit, but I thought some people here might find it useful.

Lan,
Thanks so much for giving me that inforamtion, I'll look next time I go to Boots. There's a new Boots store in Crayford next door to my favourite shop Hobbycraft and I think I'll put a trip there on the agenda this weekend! It's the Boots where they stock the dairy free fruit cake slices too!;)
Thanks again.:)
