Not sure if this has been covered before, but:
Tescos normal Dark chocolate (and dark fruit and nut) doesn't say in the allergy box that it contains milk, however, when reading the ingredients it contains butterfat.

Tescos value dark chocolate says in the allergy box it contains soya, (nothing about milk) and then in the ingredients it contains lactose.

Sorry if this has been stated before (I had a search for it, but couldn't see anything)

(I've discovered I did have chocolate in the house all along, oh well, just means I've got three bars of the stuff now (but no G&B ) :( )

Yes I got caught out with that about a year or so ago. I contacted Tesco and was told about the 20% (or maybe 25%) rule. This states that if an ingredient is less than 20% of the whole product it does not have to be listed!!!

I eat Tesco organic dark chocolate and that is very yummy and dairy free :)

It struck me as very strange though. I'm used to things being listed in the allergy box and then not seeing the ingredient listed, but I think its wrong to list in the ingredients butterfat and not declare milk in the allergy box.

And to list lactose as an ingredient and then all they put was 'contains soya' surely thats not right?!

Usually it is the other way around, they put milk in the allergy box but you can't see it listed in the ingredients - their value Jaffa Cakes are like that (but their own brand orange box ones don't have milk listed in either ingredients or allergy box so we assume they are safe). I've used their own organic chocolate too, it isn't a bad price either (79 or 89p for 100g - can't remember which).

Just goes to show that you need to be vigilant and check all the information.

Have you tried GREEN and BLACK's ORGANIC DARK 70%? They make them snack-size ones (big box) as well. They too are dairy-free.

Why get a 20g bar when you can have 100g? Or am I just greedy? They also do Maya Gold in 20g bars but at 45p per bar you're paying for the packaging. I'd rather go for a big one. I can see the attraction for children though, they are a similar size to milky bars. Where have you seen the boxes for sale? I've only seen them singly.

I'm sounding very negative about things this morning - I must have got out of bed the wrong side - sorry.

I put away a whole 100g bar of Tesco organic dark chocolate on Thursday night because I was feeling sorry for myself. I bought Maya Gold last night when I went shopping but I didn't eat any. I tend to eat chocolate alone so I don't have to share it and don't have anyone judging how much I am eating (does that class as an eating disorder?)

Dawn French on the Terrys chocolate orange adverts is so "me". I agree with everything she says. "They're not Terrys, they're mine!"

Pam I think its called being sensible. It removes the guilt element and then you can enjoy the chocolate properly!!:eat:
I wouldn't worry too much about it

I can't eat that much chocolate so don't mind eating it in public :)

I can't eat that much chocolate so don't mind eating it in public :)Neither can I, Claire - I restrict myself to the odd couple of squares of Maya Gold, half a small brownie or a single choccy biscuit...I swear if they lift my not-too-much-fat restriction, the first thing I'm going to do is sit and gorge myself on tons of chocolate!! *sigh* ;)

I've just attacked the bar of Maya Gold that I bought on Friday. It has a sell by date of 08.01.07. Who are they trying to kid, it will be gone before 08.01 tomorrow night :D
