I didn't name it this, my boyfriend did! Basically it's a method, rather than a recipe, for a sort of nutrititious, uncooked, Bircher-esque muesli. It needs to be made up before you go to bed, but it only takes 5 minutes, is extremely filling and keeps your energy reserves going until lunchtime (at least in our case). Use whatever proportions you like, so long as there's a good amount of oats in there. We like it with lots of nuts in!

I make this to fill a little glass ice cream bowl, and there's usually enough for two servings - it's much more filling than it looks.
Large handful of decent oats
Selection of interesting dried fruits - I usually use any two from dried apricots, figs, dates, prunes...whatever looks good and has a nice sweetness to it
Unsalted nuts - I use a mixture of cashews, hazelnuts, almonds, brazils and walnuts
Few pinches of ground cinnamon (use nutmeg, ginger or mixed spice if you want a change) or to taste
Sugar, sweetener or honey to taste
Soya or other non-dairy milk
About a quarter of a fresh crunchy apple, grated or finely chopped (optional)Place half the oats in a bowl. Chop the dried fruit and nuts into fairly small chunks and place on top of the oats, with the apple if using.

Put the rest of the oats on top, sprinkling with the spice and sugar/sweetener (if using honey or another sticky or liquid sweetener, add after the soya milk to ensure good distribution).

Mix the mess up until the fruit and nuts are evenly distributed through the oats.

Pour enough non-dairy milk over the oat mixture to cover it, and a little extra. Mix well with a spoon. Cover and place in fridge overnight. In the morning, scoff happily and head out to work, play, study or whatever else you do.

That's it, really. You'll probably find you don't add enough milk the first few times, but it's easy to add extra in the morning so that's no problem. The oats and dried fruits absorb a lot of liquid and go all creamy and soft. If you're feeling decadent you can add a little Soya Dream (or other non-dairy cream) to it before eating, but I have to watch the fat a bit, so I don't!

That sounds quite interesting, I might have to give it go one weekend.

Just a quick note...

We've recently been adding a little coconut powder and some Biona organic cherries (they come in a jar, you can buy them in some wholefood shops) to the breakfast mess, and it's LOVELY with those in. :D
